say jon ellingson hid the cash- he allegedly stole from first national bank. lauren- "now cedar falls police say ellingson ditched the money in this nearby apartment complex after possibly hearing sirens and knowing police were out searching for him." the police presence caught kyle's attention- as he was taking his dog out. "i hear we have the money..we have the money and so i dart down here and i look over one bag full of money just sitting right here and apparently it was behind this door." but how did ellingson get into this locked building? well police say a woman who also lives here was outside- and ellingson approached her... "you know we are iowa- we are nice people. it was cold and the guy told the neighbor you know- i forgot my keys you know can you let me in.." ellingson got in...and hid the cash but police say.. it could have been much worse.. "in a scenerio like this when you have a person who commited a crime- you don't know how

witnesses told memphis police four men wearing masks pulled lonnie out of his vehicle -- and demanded money -- before he was shot. no arrests have been made. coming up tonight at six - hear from ludvigson's family. continuing coverage... the linn county attorney says an officer's use of force during a deadly officer- invovled shooting is justified. cedar rapids police officers shot and killed 21- year-old jonathan gossman back in october. an investigation into the case found gossman fired his gun at officers while they were trying to arrest them... the needed to stay safe. a service dog reported missing earlier this week -- is found safe and healthy. this is bianca -- the service dog and golden retriever. on monday -- her owner and trainer -- rita stewart says someone came into her home -- and took her. kwwl's macleod hageman travels

in the newsroom with the details. mac? after traveling to conrad to report about bianca's whereabouts -- we were later told she was found nearly two miles from home. bianca is one of two service dogs used at the b-c-l-u-w elementary school. her trainer says she was taken earlier this week by an unknown person -- but was found a few hours ago by a united parcel service driver. her trainer -- rita stewart -- says her heart sank monday when she "i didn't know where she was. she had never been out in the snow. it was a cold blistery just hope she was tucked in somewhere." according to rita -- bianca suffers from a thyroid problem -- and needed daily medication. at last check -- bainca was a little shaken -- but seems to be doing o-k. right now -- she's being checked out by her vet -- to ensure she's happy and healthy. we've got you covered live in the

schoolers have become pen pals with syrian refugees from a world away. kwwl's kristin rogers spoke directly with the students involved today as well as their teacher who helped get them involved, kristin? ten linn mar high school students have been taking part in this. their teacher, david swaney tells me it all started last school year when his friend who works for un high comission on refugees contacted him. he was asked if his students would want to pen pal with the refugees to help them learn english while they are at a refugee camp in jordan. i t was an easy decision for him, because as he teaches government classes he thought it would be a mar high school government teacher) "anytime that students can get real life experience one-on-one

cell. 40 year old former nfl player lawrence phillips was found dead at kern valley state prison in california. authorities suspect the death was a suicide. phillips was awaiting trial for the alleged murder of his cellmate in 2013... he could've have faced the death penalty if convicted. he played running back at the university of nebraska in the nineties... and then went on to play with the rams, dolphins and 49ers. a constable mistakenly shoots and kills a 12-year- old girl during an eviction. police say a pennsylvania state constable was serving an eviction notice to a who lived with his wife and daughter. police say the man pulled out a loaded gun and pointed it at the officer - so the officer fired

and killing his daughter. video just released to the united states shows the release of ten u-s navy sailors. the sailors were freed after being detained by iranian officials... the sailors were on a training mission when their two navy boats malfunctioned and drifted into iranian controlled waters. the sailor's release diffused what could've become an internationl crisis in the days before iran's nuclear deal meeting with world powers. a group of school children are among those caught in a deadly avalanche. searches are still underway for victims in the french alps. rescuers say five people have been found - three of whom were in a state of cardiac arrest. at least one person was killed -- a 14 year old. the avalanche happened on a black-rated slope that had been closed for several days because of heavy snowfall.
