manage to do so late this afternoon and evening, but until then we will have a few flurries and snow showers with highs in the low to mid teens. the heaviest snow will fall tonight and to our south, but i'll have more details in a few minutes. today, a big school is forced to evacute because of a bomb threat. it happened at iowa city west high school. kwwl's kristin rogers was at the high school, she joins us live complex, which is where the students were taken during the threat. that's right and when we first got on scene this morning over at west high school. it looked like a normal day. the parking lot was full of cars, see police cars lining the parking lot, let's take a look

video we shot earlier. multiple k9's can be seen coming in and out off the school. outside it was very quiet, that's because all of the students were taken to the university of iowa athletic complex. lines of parents can be seen waiting to pick up their kids, there were also buses taking kids back to the school to meet parents there. i'm working to learn more information as this story develops, one student told me she doesn't know what's going on, and she remembers a gun threat at the school earlier this year. certainly a scary situation for all involved. we've got you covered live in iowa city, kristin rogers...kwwl news. stay with us for updates on our website kwwl dot come and right here. new at noon: the cedar falls city council denies a rezoning request for a well-known veteran.

the city to rezone land so they could build a home for him -- which would be controlled by an i- pad. morris -- lost portions of all four limbs -- in an explosion in afghanistan four years ago. the council says the area they wanted rezoned to residential is far removed from city services. we also heard there were concerns this would set a precedent -- which some were uncomfortable with -- especially since there were other options morris and his wife had with the current landowners -- without having to come before the city. two weeks from today waterloo voters will decide whether to build a career center. tonight there's a town hall meeting for voters to learn more about the plan. it will be at the waterloo center for the arts starting at seven tonight. if you cant make it tonight, that vote comes a day after the iowa caucuses. we're just 13 days away. republican presidential hopeful carly fiorina is in eastern iowa today campaigning. kwwl's amanda gilbert is back from waverly where fiorina

carly fiorina was at wartburg college this morning.... education was a big focus in fiorina's speech..... but one eastern iowa man stole son's education during the question and answer section. "there's a school that is getting closed down next year.... serves abouot a hundred kids... anyone of those kids don't have anywhere else to go.. because they all have mental disabilities... my son included..." i caught up with phillip afterwards.... he says in waverly... he just found out a public school will be taking over his son's private school... and he doesn't know what that means for the future of his son's education. here's the beginning of fiorina's response. in iowa this week -- including in vinton and iowa city on thursday. one thing college basketball teams are learning when you come to iowa: it's tough at the top. first uni beat nubmer one ranked north carolina. then, iowa took down michigan state -- also ranked first. so what about iowa state -- hosting the new number one team oklahoma. fantastic game last night in ames. iowa state up three late -- but oklahoma would tie it on this tree. on the next possession it's monte morris -- with the huge shot -- cyclones up 2. they hit their free throws -- and the cyclones got it done. another number one team goes down in the state of iowa. iowa state wins 82-77. iowa now has its highest ranking in 15 years. the hawks jumped seven spots in the a-p poll and are now ranked ninth in the country.

now on the kwwl news at noon. two kids weren't being very holy at church. they allegedly robbed the pastor during the service. and, a massive drug bust inside a home with a baby and, quite the catch!!- a california fishmerman hooked a shark! welcome back to the news at noon.. i'm jerry gallagher, ally is off we're continuing to follow breaking news this afternoon: two girls have died in a fire house fire -- east of prairie du chien. the crawford county sheriff's department says it happened last night in wauzeka, wisconsin. this picture is from our coverage partners at t-h media. a deputy and neighbors tried to get into the home, but could not because of the flames and smoke. after firefighters put out the fire -- the bodies of two girls -- a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old were

tonight and to our south, but a tragic story out of memphis. trying to get warm. the flames spread throughout an entire building "he was just standing too close, trying to get warm and got too he said he needed some water, that's all i heard him saying." the man is in critical condition this afternoon. the search continues for 12 marines on board two helicopters that collided off the hawaiian coast. yesterday, search and rescue crews found three empty life rafts from the helicopters unfortunately, the coast guard says there are no signs any of the us involved. this is a nightmare want to do, but we want the families out there to know that we are doing everything that we can." the marines were doing a

training mission when the two helicopters crashed into each another mid-air. a rare catch off the coast of southern california. a man hooked a great white shark. the shark eventually broke free and swam away. experts say warmer winter waters, caused by el nino, most likely drew the shark closer to the beach. authorities find 51 meth labs inside a home -- a home that also had a baby inside. it happened in alabama. deputies say they are seeing more meth labs there. the homeowners could face up to 20 another distrubing story this afternoon a woman faces dunk driving charges following a crash...injuring the six children in her car. it happened in pennsylvania. police say the woman crashed her car into a concrete barrier. the children, ages six to 13,

not wearing seatbelts. police say the woman's license was suspended at the time over a previous dui. now a kwwl follow-up. a crisis team is on hand today in the southeast webster school district following the deaths of three students. the children and their mother died in a house fire over the weekend. investigators believe it was caused by a space heater. today's the first day of class since the fire.... we miss them very much. we can't explain a loss like that students have already been making posters with messages like "it's ok to cry" and "we'll miss you" the posters will go to the children's father, who was at work at the time of the fire. now to another follow-up: we're now learning the name of the police officer that was punched at a cedar rapids laundromat. cedar rapids police say the officer was randy vest 33-year-old nathan brocks

it happened at the soapy waters laundromat in cedar rapids. police say the officer was speaking with brocks when he punched him -- knocking him unconcious. you can hear some of the incident on the police scanner "i'm out at soapy waters." (man screams) "215 can you start to soapy waters?" "code 2 ambulance for an officer." other officers tased brocks before taking him into custody, because they say he fought back. the officer's name has not been receiving some backlash after telling his muslim employees they can't take extra breaks to pray. during normal day time working hours, three of a muslim's daily prayers could interfere with production time. the c-e-o of ariens is wisconsin made it clear that no one is losing their job, but the company could not afford to stop work to accommodate muslim rituals. after announcing the policy change, only a quarter of the company's muslim employees showed up to "we respect the fact that they

check this out -- frozen clothes in minneapolis. one man started it, then neighbors joined in the fun people say they put their clothes in washing machine, then took them outside. it only took a couple of minutes -- they've been dealing with the same temperatures we have.
