william sttin iowa city. police later found the suspect, clifton brinkmeyer, and a fake, plastic gun. he was taken into custody and charged with second degree robbery. two children are killed after getting stuck inside a house fire. it happened late last night n wisconsin -- just across the iowa border. the crawford county sheriffs office says two killed were sisters, 12-year old lena old trinity bartles. neighbors say someone drrving by noticed smoke coming out of the save them -- but the smoke and fire was too much. "the house behind me is fully engulfed in flames and pretty much beyond the point of ving." authorities say the girls were home alone -- their parents were at work. they are still searching for the cause of the fire --but say it is not suspicious.

school evacuates students and faculty -- shutting down classes for the day. police ficers and k9's's checking out iowa city west high school -- as students were bussed to the hawkeye tennis and recreation center. students reacting to the news of what police called a redible threat. (cg: nick deerberg & andre magalhaes / students) "i think a few years ago it would have been like oh my gosh there's a bomb "yeah it's just the way it's gotten." a special election in johnson county was also impacted by the bomb ththat. west high school was a polling place for iowa city precinct seven. voters in that precinct were told to go to the athletic hall of fame on prairie meadow drive. authorities now say a faaher killed by his teenage son -- died of multiple gunshots. 16-year-old michael goodwin, jr. is s harged withhfirst degree murder

michael goodwin, sr. the davis county sheriff's office foundthe body while responding to a welfare check in ruralalavis county last month. police identify the officer seriouslyinjured after being punched by a resident. it happened at soapy waters laundromat in cedar rapids. the officer has been identified as randy vest. 33-year-old nathan brocks faces multiple chargeein the sault. police were responding to a domestic disturbance call at the laundromat sunday afternoon.. they say officer vest was speaking with brocks when he punched him -- knocking him unconcious. vest feel and hit his head on a cement parking barrier. at last check -- he remains in the hospital. a third person originally charged in a brawl involving an iowa principal will not be prosecuted. authorities say the brawl in glenwood last september starteded

involved glenwood high school principal richard hutchinson. charges are now dismissed against his step-son 42- year-old hurl beechum the third -- and two others involved in the fight. hutchinson was not charged in the incident. new aaten--one local animal shelter helping to ease the burden of overcrowded shelters in the south. the dubuque regional humane society is set to take on nearly 500 dogs this year through the petsmart charitiis rescue wagon progrrm. kwwl's brad hanson joins us live now from the t-h media newsroom brought in a number of dogs this year. that's right--including the dogs arriving tomorrow, nearly 50 dogs will have come to the dubuque rrional humann society. it's a prooam that not only benefits those looking for new pets to love, but also saves the lives
