hitting and killing an iowa state student...is out on bond. police say 23- year-old benjamin clague is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a death. 18-year-old emmalee jacobs was the victim. she was a freshman at the university. the hit and run happened in december. police used video from cy-ride buses as part of the investigation. officers say they could hear the bus hit jacobs...that's what led them to clague as their suspect. emmalee graduated from center point urbana high school last spring before heading to iowa state. her pastor says she spent most of united methodist church. as you can imagine, he says the last month or so has been very hard for the community and for the jacobs family... "up to this point it's been kind of hard on them and the community as they continue to try and search for answers as to why this is all taken place know who did it and now we can move forward in trying to

we spoke with emmalee's father. brad jacobs. he says he doesn't know if you can call this arrest closure, just days before the break in this case - - one of emmalee's friends wrote a letter to the then unknown driver -- asking for answers. in the letter she states "if you do know that you hit emmalee and you left the scene, i bet you are scared." police - now say the suspect did know -- and that has emily "you can't help, but do so. i would like to think that she would be still recovering, but she would have a fighting chance and emmalee was a fighter." she says she's glad to see emmalee finally get some justice. a driver is now facing additional charges after she's accused of driving through a crowd of people on the las vegas strip. lakeisha holloway is accused of killing one woman and

injuring more than 3 dozen others last month. she's 24. she now faces 71 counts in the incident... "the new charges essentially murder, one count of either battery with use of a deadly weapon or battery use of a deadly weapon with substantial bodily harm depending on the injuries that were suffered." holloway's attorneys say she plans to plead not guilty and the new charges were expected. her next court appearance is set for next month. police are investigating whether an eastern iowa bomb threat is connected to similar threats in other states. classes were canceled at iowa city's west high school after a bomb threat was called in tuesday morning. the phone call delivering the threat was described as a computerised, robotic voice. police are now looking for possible connections to similar threats phoned into other states that same day. a dramatic drop pushed the stock market to its lowest level in nearly two years... the dow jones industrial average was down more than 500 points at one point yesterday. the plunge was tied to a steep drop in crude oil prices, which sank seven percent.

the price of u-s crude oil dropped below 27 dollars a barrel... the lowest price since may 2003. with just 11 days to go until the iowa caucuses... the wife of republican candidate ted cruz, stopped by the kwwl studios for an upcoming segment of the steele report. she said he's sticking to his convictions when asked about governwr branstad asking for iowans to reject ted cruz on caucus night. branstad tuesday called cruz an opponent of renewable bio- fuels, a critical industry here in iowa... iowa representative steve king also had strong words for governor branstad. he said the governor's comments were potentially dangerous for the future of the nation and the governor's presidential candidate is going to come to iowa and run if they have to fear that the governor is going to come out and campaign directly against him king accused branstad of listening to his son, who works in the bio-fuels industry about claims against cruz. iowa senator chuck grassley says he thinks governor branstad did what is best for our state... governor branstad is doing ought to do... anything you can do to preserve jobs in your state - you ought to do it... meantime republican presidential candidate donald through iowa. this comes just days after receiving an endorsement from sarah palin. he talked about the importance

campaign event in iowa city. an 8-year old boy diagnosed with an untreatable form of cancer got his moment in the spotlight. the rhode island general assembly declared wednesday "d-strong" day in honor of dorian murray. dorian's dying wish was to be famous and his request was granted within days. he was honored with a ceremony at the state house, and was then taken on a tour. the health struggle and death of a family member inspired a young iowa girl to take action. sam curtiss shows us why she kellesse heard gets emotional talking about her aunt. my life," said heard. her aunts husband and kellesse's uncle, edward courts, battled with stage four stomach cancer. he died in december. "and i had a third grade teacher who had breast cancer," said heard. so, kellesse wanted to make a difference. from sports hats to bucket hats and custom hats. wednesday was hat day at crescent park elementary because

information from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team: welcome back and good thursday morning i'm meteorologist kyle kiel. threat tracker is in the green for the next 48 hours. we will start off with areas of patchy fog early this morning, otherwise it will be a partly to mostly cloudy day across eastern iowa. there is a chance for a few flurries tonight, but that won't last very long, so mostly cloudy skies expected for friday. saturday looks to have a little more sunshine. here are a look at the current visibility values across eastern iowa. we don't have terribly dense fog, but a little fog and haze creating a few areas of reduced visibility.

storm track seven live weather network shows conditions aren't too bad. roads aren't too bad this morning, either. so that's good news. weather trackers this morning are generally calling in with temperatures in the teens. we are pretty seasonable for january standards. all in all not too bad. here are the current temperatures across the viewing area. we do have wind speeds that are light and variable between 5 and 10 miles per hour. some areas have a calm wind. w ind chills aren't too bad across eastern iowa. some areas are near zero, but most of us are staying above zero. here's the storm track 7 live doppler radar. it is showing quiet

our southwest creating snow in southern iowa, but as that tracks to the north, it will run into drier air as we do have high pressure just to our east. so we are only expected a partly to mostly cloudy sky. to our south we have an area of low pressure that will continue to strengthen and track to the east. it will bring severe weather to the south today, and turn into a major winter storm with snow, sleet, freezing rain for the south and mid- atlantic this weekend. nothing like that here in eastern iowa. future track shows mainly quiet conditions throughout the day today. once we get rid of the patchy fog, we will be seeing a partly to mostly cloudy sky. temperatures won't be too bad. they will be seasonable.

as we head into tonight, we will continue with a mostly cloudy sky. a weak cold front switches our wind to the north tonight, and there is also a chance for a few flurries, but otherwise we will mainly be dry. on the roadways. friday will be wind. tonight, a few flurries possible on sunday. there is a a giant ice skating park in front of vienna's town hall is set to open today. the rink spans more than 86- thousand square feet. the official opening ceremony today will feature spectacular dancers, artists and music. last year about 700-thousand people visited the rink. a new york town has come up with a unique way to use a parking lot. they're trying to turn this lot into an outdoor ice rink. the town's usual spot is closed
