"honestly, there are things more important than your life, and freedom is one of them." oregon protester lavoy finicum -- telling n-b-c news that he would rather die than be arrested... tuesday night, finicum was killed... ...as authorities arrested protest leader ammon bundy and several members of the armed group occupying the malheur national wildlife refuge. officials say it started with a traffic stop, and that finicum

facebook that finicum "had his hands up and was shot 3 times." officials.. haven't commented injuries -- finicum died at the scene. he had been one of the most outspoken members of the armed group... ...that took over the refuge earlier this month to protest federal land policies. "hello america, this is lavoy finicum. we are not going anywhere. we're here to do a job." tuesday's incident ended with ammon and ryan bundy and three followers in federal custody on felony conspiracy charges. three other activists were arrested separately. i'm reid binion, reporting in a few hours, the f-b-i will hold a news conference -- so we hope to learn more about what happened later this morning. this morning, police want to know who fired shots at a homeless camp. two people were killed, three others wounded. it happened in seattle. police say this was no random attack. seattle's mayor has been under pressure to deal with the homeless problem in seattle. he called tuesday night's shooting a tragedy, but says now homeless people, and the causes of homelessness are complex. there is no simple answer, and

pushing several students out of the way. this is what happened. a school bus suddenly jumped a curb near a school in indianapolis. susan jordan -- a principal -- pushed a number of students out of the way. but she was hit -- along with two 10- year-olds. the two kids are in serious condition. principal jordan was killed. "my son has down's so she always made sure he was in his class and she was just very, very caring towards me and my family." the bus driver says she has no idea why the bus suddenly accelerated and jumped the curb. authorities say -- so far -- it doesn't look like drugs or alcohol were factors -- and the bus was just inspected last week. police found no mechanical problems at all. the mother of a five-year-old now faces charges after a deadly crash. a car crashed into a business in clermont sunday -- killing the driver, james tackett. police say he might have been drinking. a five-year-old girl was in the backseat at the time -- but is expected to be ok.

daughter of tackett's girlfriend -- hilary upton. upton is now charged with child endangerment. the fayette county sheriff says the girl should have never been alone with tackett -- a "we are always concerned mother is convicted it is an aggravated misdemeanor and could received a maximum up to two years in the state pen." fisher says the little girl is alive today because she was strapped into her booster seat when the crash happened. he says if she was sitting anywhere else in the back seat- she would have been severely injured. this week, we're learning new details about a former iowa football player who died. doctors say tyler sash had c-t-e. it's a brain disease caused by repeated trauma to the head. it's been found in dozens of former nfl players. police say tyler's mother found his body in their home in

the state medical examiner says he died from an accidental mixing of two very powerful pain medications. doctors grade c- t-e on a scale from zero to four -- with four being the most severe. they say sash was at stage two when he died. just five days to go before iowans have their say. the candidates are very busy, but at least one could be on the sidelines tomorrow night. donald trump says he'll probably skip the debate in des moines. "no, i think i'll do great in iowa's going to care." trump's in a battle with fox news -- which is hosting the debate. he doesn't like megyn kelly -- who is one of the moderators. instead, trump says he'll spend his time hosting an event in iowa to raise money for veterans and wounded warriors. his supporters seem to be a bit divided. we spoke to a number of people "that is great. they are going that. i don't like it. i wish he would go there. i wish he would go to the debate and stick it out because there is always going to be he
