kyle what conditions are you seeing? hi ron and amanda. yes, we are doing this safely. right now the roads aren't too bad. they've definitely improved from earlier this afternoon. however, later tonight they may slicken up as more light snow moves through the area. the latest check of the iowa d-o-t cameras shows slushy conditions for areas north of highway 20, including dubuque. conditions get a lot worse to the west of the state, where we have had blizzard like conditions. so we have really lucked out as far as missing the worse conditions.

snow tracks through with and as the temperature drops, there likely be slick spots, especially this evening with a light wind. just take your time. back to you guys in the studio here's a live look at the roads elsewhere in our viewing area. this is 218 near sergeant road in black hawk county - roads multiple car accidents in the tri-state area -- all because of slick road conditions. kwwl's shirley descorbeth has been following this winter storm in dubuque. she's live there now. shirley...what's the latest? well, it's not too bad now. at the moment -- it's not snowing, but earlier today -- the snow came down fast and caused some

one accident -- on southern ave and south grandview. a car hit a pole, knocking down power lines. traffic was turned away in the area -- while emergency crews responded to the scene. and here's another -- this one on highway 20 and gandolfo street. police were on scene and the car was towed away. many drivers trying to take it "when i did get into dubuque everyone is just driving carefully which is good." that man drove through dubuque county -- to galena, illinois. now so far -- police say, there's been about tweleve accidents. no serious injuries. we've got you covered live from dubuque...shirley descorbeth... ...kwwl news. and the weather causing cancellations in the area. multiple schools had a snow day today. also -- a flight out of dubuque

the southern part of our viewing area is seeing more rain than snow. plows are out clearing more slush than snow from the streets and parking lots in iowa city. but police and state troopers warn that wet roads can be just as dangerous as snow covered roads. some people in the area told us what precautions they're taking (sot. cg: denver jackson/iowa city) "when i'm coming to a stop, i obviously don't get stuck." (sot. cg: adam dahl/wisconsin) "personally i'm more nervous about other vehicles. you know, we have a four-wheel drive vehicle, and i tend to take it slow and be really cautious." police say slowing down is the best defense against slick roads. increasing following distance issanother way to avoid accidents. the winter weather didn't impact

cause a few problems for those leaving the state after the big vote. the des moines international airport says flights are back on schedule -- however, to get things straight it was an "all hands on decsituation exra at the rpot to handle the cros andhe ather as for the caucuses - final numbers are in and hillary clinton is declared the winner of the iowa caucuses. the numbers were neck and neck between vermont senator bernie sanders and former secretary of state hillary clinton -- leaving the two in a virtual tie. today the iowa democratic party said it would not recount any of the close results - and a spokesman for the sander's campaign says they dont' plan to challenge. looking at county by county results..

bernie sanders comes out ahead of hillary clinton -- by about five percentage points black hawk county republicans it's ted cruz, marco rubio, and donald trump pulling in the top three spots... a relatively close race in all three spots. linn county democrats bernie sanders tops hillary clinton here as well - just by a slightly smaller margin than in black hawk county. linn county republicans panning out just like black hawk -- ted cruz, marco rubio, and donald trump... looking now to our smaller counties. clayton county democrats it's bernie topping hillary again. clayton county republicans still with cruz on top - this time,

coming in third. benton county democrats hillary clinton topping bernie sanders here -- with an eight point spread between them. benton county republicans just like clayotn - it's ted cruz on top, donald trump taking second, and marco rubio coming in third. ted cruz is apologizig to ben carson... after a tweet causes some confusion among iowa voters. last night representative steve king, a cruz supporter, tweeted "carson looks like he is out. iowans need to know before they vote. most will go to cruz, i hope." it suggested ben carson would be suspending his campaign - which was not the case. today, cruz issued an apology it was a mistake - saying he and heading home to florida after the iowa caucuses that #arson was really dropping out. and almost immediately after the eyes of the world are on iowa - they're off again... most of the presidential candidates are pushing hard in new hampshire. their primary vote is just as

in continuing coverage... the waterloo school's proposed career center is up for a vote today. poll workers say the snow storm didn't seem to be affecting voters. a couple of the polling places seeing a slow, but steady stream of voters - - normal for a school bond vote. officials tell us they had a lot of people vote absentee prior to today. polls remain open until 8 tonight. a raymond man will now spenthe xt 25 years behind bars- after a crash that killed a 20-year old. joshua dunt pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and driving under the influence of perscription drugs after a car crash in october 2014. that's when dunt crashed head on with warren van wie's car in washburn. van-wie later died at an area hospital. today, dunt was given the maxiumum sentence of 25 years in prison.

here is additional forecast air has worked its way into eastern iowa thissfternoon, shutting off the precipitation across most of the area. the system, so far, has dropped a trace to 5 inches across the area from north to south. however, more light snow is on the way overnight as this system wraps around.. the wind will be relatively light through the evening as low pressure tracks through eastern iowa. the light snow will begin moving through the area after 10 pm tonight. an additional 1 to 2 inches is possible. after midnight, the wind will turn to the north from 10 to 20 mph, which could cause some snow to

this is a fairly compact snow so blowing and drifting won't be a huge deal. the snow will track oututof the area by morning, but the wind will still be gusty throughout the daywednesday with temperatures slowly falling through the 20s during the day. there will likely still be slick spots throughout the overnight hours and for wednesday. the rest of the week will be partly to mostly cloudy with temperatures in the 20s. the

alliant energy tells us 43-hundred customers lost power for a bit in the first half of the day. kwwl's kristin rogers has been working the phones today to keep up with any interuptions thee storm may have caused. she joins us live from cedar rapids. as you mtioned, i'm told thousands of residents here did lose power for a t, alliant tells me some of it was caused by stong wind or snow, they are also investigating a possible lightning strike to blame, school was also cancelled in cedar rapids those days off course for safety reasons with the weather, we often think about students
