so far des moines has received around three inches of snow. with snow having fallen across ththstate, lets take a live look out at the road conditions. we bring in storm track seven meterologist kyle kiel and his team who is out driving on&highway 20 and kyle what are roads like ouu there? hi ron and amanda. yes, we are doing this safelyy right now thth roads aren't too bad. they've definitely improved from earlier this afternooo. however, later more light snow moves through the area. the latest check of the iowa d-o-t cameras shows slushy conditions for areas north of highway 20, including dubuque. conditions get a lot worse to the west of the state,

we havv had blizzarddlike conditions. so we have really lucked out as far as missing the worse conditions. however light snow tracks through with and as the temppature drops, t tere will likely be slick spots, especially this evening with a light wind. just take your time. back to you guys in the studio thanks yle. road conditions are slowly beginning to improve but there are still areas up north where travel is not advised.. in dubuque -- reports of multiple accidents on the roads de to slick conditions. take a look at this video. we came across an accident on highway 20 and gandolfo street. police were on scene and the car ended up beeng towed away.

this one on southern avenue and south grandview. a car crashed into a pole -- causing downed power lines. traffic was blocked off in the area. alliant enerr later came o ot to repair the problem. fortunately, in those accidents this winter storm affecting much more than just road conditions in the tri-state area. kwwl's shirley descorbeth is live in dubuque with the latest. shirley...how's it going out there? well, it's actually not too bad now. the moment -- the snow has here's video shot earlier today. the snow...sleet mixture covering the roads -- and sticking to it...causing some of those accidents mentioned. city of dubuque has had plow trucks out since 5 this morning -- at first just salting them. they hit the primary, then secondary streets.

the winter storm hit iowa city earlier today -- but people in that area aren't seeing much snow. kwwl's iowa city saw a little snow tis morning. down here. police and state troopers sayyroads can stii get who told me they're glad the city didn't get as much snow as some places further cg: denver just a turns and stuff." (sot. cg: adam dahl/wisconsin resident) "personally 'm more nervous about other vehicles. you know, we have a four-wheel drive vehihile, and i tend to take it slow and be really cautious of conditions." there've been reports of a few accidents in johnson county ... but many of them are hit and runs and police can't confirmrmif they were weather related. iowa state troopers reminded me that wet roads can be just as dangerous as snow- covered

one worker tells me she was worried the storm would keep people away - -- making for an even smaller turn out than is normal for a school board vote. but they say the voters who made it out weren't concerned about the weather. here is a look at voting earlier todaa at the ridgeway center. with road conditions improving quickly - - voters continued to turn out. the workers at payne memorial "we had a 90 year old come weather or whatever." speaking with the county audtor - - as of 2 this afternoon - - a little over 2 thousand people had voted. the counn had over 26- hundred absentee ballots turned in prior

we've got you covered live in news. if you haven't voted - - there is still time - - polls close at eight tonight. there issnow an official winner on the democratic side for the iowa caucus. according to the ap poll, hillary clinton is officially named the winner. she beat back strong challenge from bernie sanders ttclaim the first victoo in the 2016 race only two tenths of a percent seperated her and sanders. with the iowa caucus coming to a wrap last night - lets take a look at how certain counties in eastern iowa polled. in dubuque county on the republican side, donald trump and marco rubio tied for first place - both getting 27 percent. cruz

and on the democratic side, hillary clinton won the county by getting 52 percent. sanders received 47 percent. in bremer county it was a much closer contest on the republican side, cruz won with 27 percent of the votes while rubio received 26 and on the democratic side, clinton won by a wider margin over sanders - clinton got 53 percent while sanders got 45 percent. johnson county polledhis way the republicaaside. rubio took the top spot with 31 percent of the votes. cruz edged out trump for second place - cruz got 20 percent while trump got 19 percent. top spot with 31 percent of the while trump got 19 percent. while clinton got 40 percent. a man wwll serve the maximum sentence of 25 years behind bars- after an eastern iowa car crash that killed a 20 year old. joshua dunt pleaded guilty to

under the influence of perscription drugs after a car crash in october 2014. that's when dunt crashed head on wiwih warren van wie's car in washburn. van-wie later died at an area hospital. today, dunt was sentenced to 25 years in prison for that crash. kwwl's lauren moss was in court today- she joins us now live in the newsroom with more, lauren. amanda it@was a very emotional day. dunt apologized- taking responsibility for what happennd. and i spoke with van wie's mother who says it's going to take time- right now she's not ready to forgive as she talked about life without hr son, warrn. warren van-wie is loved by many "he was the kid that walked into the room and owned it- he owned the room he owned the stage and he is greatly missed by everyone in

friends and family gather in this court-house- supporting one another- while waiting to hear joshua dunt's drugs when he crashed into warren's caa, killing him. nobody should have to lose a family member first of all but to a senseless tragedy such as this. she read an emotional statement on stand- saying she lost a piece of herself when she lost her son. dunt was sentenced to 25 years behind bars, but bebeore he was taken away- he looked at van wie's family and apologized saying he was sorry from the bottom of his heart- but lori says she's not ready. i'll work on that because i believe that's the only way i will truly be free is if i forgive him but i just can't yet." she says it takes time to forgive..but right now she's sharing her story, so drivers will think twice before getting behind the wheel. it's not just alcohol, impairment that could kill people it's drugs it's presctiption drugs that

caused the outages but they were also investigating to possibility of a lightening strike being to blame as well. this storm also caused cedar rapids school to have a snow day today i caught up with this family smiling on their day off, jamie sebring is actually a teacher in cedar r!pids. she enjoyed this weather with her boys getting some shoveling done but also taking breaks to join in on the fun. she tells us it's s mportant to (cg: jamie sebring/ teacher) "we do, i mean living in iowa four seasons i mean you have to and my husband and i playing hockey and even baseball outside. she told me they planned to bunker down and bake cookies at home later but for those who are spending time on the roads, the city tells me it's important to remind drivers to go slow and
