eileen loan. good morning. temperatures are in the single digits either side of zero this morning, but the wind chills are running at -15 in some areas. the winds have died down, but they are still from the northwest at 5 to 10 mph. we have clear skies now, too, but some clouds will track into the western counties today and may bring a few snow showers... most of the activity looks like it will stay away from us, but we will have a kind of split v vewing area with clouds and sun... sun to the east and some clouds with snow showers to the west. highs will only be in the teens at best today. we stay cold this week with a few forecast for you in a few minutes.

"i want to thank you! we love you." more than a third of new hampshire republicans said "yes!" to donald trump's bold, not- so-politically- correct brand of politics... which he says will work.. anywhere: "we are going now to south carolina - we're going to win in south carolina." john kasiih beat cruz, ruruio and bush in a four-way battle for

place. he credits a positive message: "tonight, the light overcame the darkness of negative campaigning!" hillary clinton suffered a huge, though not unexpected, defeat. no comeback this time. she lost to bernie sanders by double digits.. but insists it's not over: "we're gong to fight for every vote in every state" sanders heads to harlem, new york this morning to pick up key african- american endorsements that could help him compete against clinton in south carolina. "they're throwing everything at me except the kitchen sink, and i have the feeling that kitchen sink is coming pretty soon, as well!" massive turnout... lines around the block and in one case a mile long... leading to "outsider" victories in both parties. while we await the official numbers, it looks like turnout here was on track to set a record. i'm tracie potts in manchester,

so kasich finishes second in new hampshire. he spent much more time there than in iowa -- where he finished eighth -- even behind rand paul -- who has since dropped out. the race to the white house moves on now to south carolina and nevada. today, it's a trip down memory lane for the current president. he returns to springfield, illinois... where he served in the stte senate for about eight years. it's also where he made the announcement in 2007 that he would un for president. he'll address the illinois general assembly today -- and is also expected to make a call for less divisive politics in america. here's a setback to his efforts to stop climate change. the supreme court temporarily blocks his plan to liiit greenhousee gassmissions frrm power plants. under the e-p-a's clean power plan, states would be required to meet specific standards based on how much energy they use. the plan has been criticized by republicans. more than two- dozen states are

a federal appeals court will hold a hearing on it in june. technology has investigators stumped. they're trying to get into a cell phone one of the shooters used in san bernardino -- and they can't. 14 people were shot to death in december. this week, the f- b-i director talked about the investigation on capitol hill. "it is a big problem for law the judge says there's probable cause to open it. as i said, it investigation to us, we still have one of those killers' phones that we have not been able to ope. it's been over two months now, we're still working on it." getting at that information in the phone -- could give them an idea of how and why they attacked. here's the problem -- cell phone companies commonly use encryption to protect customer data. if a phone is secured with a password, it's hard to get into

old murder investigation. a 56-year-old case. a former priest was arrested in phoenix. he's accused of murdering a woman in 1960. the woman -- a teacher and former beauty queen - was 25 at the time. police say she went to a church in texas for confession on the night she was murdered. the priest heard hear confession - and polic believe he was the last person to see her. he says he's innocent. an officer might have been doing his job... but still -- he's being called a hero this morning. dashcam video shows a missouri state highway patrol officer pull a woman from a burning car. a good samaritan also jumped in to help. the woman was seriously hurt... this morning we don't know how she's doing beyond that. police say the crash was caused by a driver nning a red lighgh that driver was later arrested. a man has to be taken off a flight -- and the airline is calling it a customer service issue.

problem -- the flight -- which left boston on its way to san diego -- had to land in denver. the other passengers cheered when the man was removed. in the iowa legislature -- there's a bill that would keep minors out of tanning booths. a house subcommittee approved a bill that would ban anyone under the age of 17 from tanning. the state senate passed a similar bill last year, but would ban anyone under the age of 18. in dubuque, a tanning salon "io have some ki that come in that have depression or severe acne, and the doctors recommenen it for them." right now, iowa is one of eight states that does not regulate indoor tanning for minors. eastern iowa high school students get a special visit from the governor. the students in waterloo west's culinary program showed off their ills for governor branstad. the class is part of the district's career andndtechnical education prrgram - which was hoping to expand with last

that failed. teachers and students talked to the governor about the impact the program has on them. "just having the oportunity to them pretend that they are in and a part of the industry, and then meeting those industry partners is big." governor branstad talked about the importance of programs like this oo... because skilled workers are needed in iowa now... and into the future. the governor is also hearing from a former governor... about a hot topic. chet culver hosted town hall meetings -- including this one in coralville to talk about governor branstad's plan to privatize medicaid. many people shared their concernsns this should not be a polititical republican or i'm a democrat, they were standing up as concerned iowans and that's what i'm doing as well." a rally is planned dt the state capitol

today, christians all over the world celebrate the beginning of lent. it's ash wednesday. it begins the period that leads up to easter sunday -- at the end of march. during lent -- many people will give up something, like a favoritee food. that's s one in remembrrnce of jesus' fasting. another custom for christians during lent is acts of kindness or charity for others. a geometry teacher has all the angles... but still needs help from his students for one big project. bryan henry shows us they went to great lengths to help him get bill brock wanted it to be special... carolina was in the super bowl for the first time. and the lord of the rings won best picture. the year was 2004 -- and gas prices averaged less than two dollars a gallon for the entire year. now, the u-s government predicts prices will do the same this year. across the country, we're expected to pay -- on average -- 1-98 a gallon for the year. gas buddy says the lowest prices in iowa this morning are in ankeny -- 1-21 a gallon. think spring. that's w wat they're doing in dubuque. after not having spring break for a few years, the school board voted to bring back a week long vacation. this comes after the district sent out email asking parents for their input. about a third said they didn't want a s sring break. others said they support the change. scary moments during a pentagon
