safety...not an anti- gun story -- it's not a pro-gun story...this has nothing to do with gun rights. as kwwl's amanda goodman tells us, guns are not always locked up and put away. oh! oh my goodness! oh my god! he's shooting my daughter! it took just seconds - a room full of toys - a hidden gun - and curious children... it took just seconds. let's rewind to the beginning - seven mothers - eight children - all in the preschool and kindergarten age range...coming together at the kwwl studios for an experiment...an experiment that could save lives. (19:24:47 - :55) there's no possibility that there

(19:28:56) jodi do i think he'll pick it up? absolutely. (19:28:03 - :17) don't go off themselves. you gun? i hope not. i'm pretty nervous. i don't know. i'd say no. (19:31:14) vickie i don;t know if she's going to think it's a toy squirt gun. i'm curious to what her reaction will be...she knows to stay away. (19:30:07) karen do you think they'll pick up do you think your son will pick to find out.

(19:48:46 - :57) uh oh there it is. dominick got it. dominick starts to walk towards the door - but then comes back...the gun still in his hand. (19:49:23) oh he still has it? is he going
12:35 pm
put it back? dominick puts it back...but it only takes seconds before it's in the hands of god! not only does this young boy pick up the gun - he points it right at this little he's pointing it at her. (19:51:35 show mom crying...mom turns around) it becomes too much for the moms to watch... (19:53:02 - 19:53:11) seeing that pointed at my daughter. just thinking... the gun changes hands one another. (19:54:20 - :30 mcclelland) that's typical for young kids. curiosity. everything is a toy in their world. unless we educate them and let them know sometimes it's not. the experiment is over (19:53:16) (nats) olivia! this young girl walking towards me...holding the gun pointed right at me... (19:59:22/ splice to 20:00:08 ) mom real quick, you're getting pretty emotional? what's going on? it happened so quickly. this was a test...an experiment...but it quickly became very real for these parents... (20:05:40 ) worst case scenario, he could have shot somebody if that was a real gun. to be a parent on the other end...pretty terrifying. (20:12:20 - :37) we haven't had that conversation and he was the do and what not to do. (20:06:44 - :07:04) it's made me think about a lot more. watching that gun being pointed at my daughter, that's scary...pointing it at you. you

night their moms, are still very much shaken. (20:07:30) i was really upset that he no i thought she would be more proactive. sorry. and tell somebody. that was scary for mommy to see how quickly that (20:08:07) me a lot of families don't have guns...conversation?? splice to (20:09:14 - :20) until (20:00:34 - :40) you just shake because if that was real, half of these kids could really be injured right now. injured - or dead.
12:38 pm
i'm still shaking. only two kids didn't pick up that gun...or really even pay attention to it... those two kids are the ones who have guns in their house -- and their parents have talked extensively about guns... their curiosity is gone. we'll be right back.
