she's being mentioned as a possible nomination by president obama-- they're former harvard classmates. kwwls olivia mancino joins us live now to break down what this all means jane kelly's been working in the iowa court systm since the 90s first as a public defender, eventually becoming a federally appointed judge in 2013. experts say if nominated and eventually appointed, kelly would bring to the table a divers background not typically found in supreme court justices following the surprising death of president obama will seek a new nominee-- a tough task, considering the republican senate he'll face. as presidental ndidates quickly turn scalia's death into partisan politics, an eastern iowa name emerges as a potential nominee -- 8th circuit court of appeals judge jane kelly. jane kelly "june 5 2005 is a day ive been looking forward to" kelly has made the news in multiple instances-- in@this particular video, attacked aad left for deaddwhile out jogging on a trail. her attacker hasn't been found, but her professional career has marched forward.

monday, but entere a written plea of not guilty. jacobs was a freshman at iowa state university. a man is dead after his home catches on fire... ronald jacobs was 72-years-old and lived in the home with his the time of the fire, she was taken to the hopsital. it happened just after 7-30 this morning in the 3700 block of 16th avenue sw, in cedar rapids. kwwl's kristin rogers was on scene all morning, she joins us live. we still do not know what caused this fire but it's heartbreaking. neighbors tell me ronald was a nice person and had just all but oorcome a not a lot of damage can be seen from the outside of turned out to be a deadly fire those who saw the fire say from the outside they mostly noticed a lot of smoke, others down the street didn't even know there had been a fire here. iowa state patrol officials confirm the drivers was killed after the truck jackknifed and overturned on i- near cumming today. the northbound lanes were closed off as crews worked to clean up the crash site - all lanes were reopened a few hours later. a man is injured after his snowmobile hits a culvert and launches him 150 feet. the accident happened sunday afternoon on highway 30 just west of boone. the iowa natural resources department says damion louk was driving 60 miles per hour when he hit the cclvert. louk was flown to mercy medical center in des moines. there are now five allegations of sexual offenses reported by former students, current tudents or staffers at an iowa academy over the past three years. in addition, a lee county sheriff says the state department of human services has identified 19 other abuse cases at the midwest academy in keokuk. the boarding school for troubled teenagers was raided back in

allegations that a staff member sexually assaulted a stuuent. trustees of an iowa community college reprimand the school president for plagiarizing a portion of his martin luther king day speech. last week the mirkwood community college board approved a motion expressing its disappointment that president mick starcevich didn't attribute the source of an anecdote he used last month. the quote came from a blog post that appeared on the new york in iowa legislature news - a new bill could have a big impact on drivers here in the state. the bill would make it illegal to talk on your cell phone while driving... right now in iowa - it's illegal to text or send out emails while driving but no talking. in fact - only drivers with permits or termediate liccnse holders can not talk on their cell phones and drive - but a new bill would change this. a lot of people we talked to

"ive been in a couple of accidents from using my phone so." a lot of police officers and sheriffs support this bill as well. but the american civil liberties union of iowa is against this bill. a day to remember..that's what firefighters are ssying after meeting the two young children they rescued from inside a burning home. here's video from the scene. the fire happened last sunday at a mobile home in cedar falls. trapped inside- was a mother and her two young chillen. the children are doing great and the mother is expected to be okay, as well...all thanks to rescue crews. kwwl's lauren moss speaking with responding firfighters- about us now live with our story.. on friday, less than a week after the fire- the cedar falls firefighters met 5 year old avery and 3 year old mason..they came by to spend the day at the statio with

it's a meeting that rarely happens, but when it does...im told it's a memory that lasts a lifetime. 7 firefighters- 2 police oficers- and 2 paramedics worked together last sunday...and saved the two nd their mother from the fire. that's just 11 people..who made it work. they told me the home was filled with smoke..they couldnt see anuthing, .but they could hear the mother screaming for help towards the front of the home while the kids were near the back.. . to hear that voice and know that somebody was in need of our help and to be able to perform that rescue..it was a great feeling." here's pictures of mason and avery with some of their heros. they had lunch with firefighters and took a tour of the station..firefighter s say seeing them smiling after such a tragedy...is an image they will never forget. they are really such humble and generous men that i spoke with totoay..but it doeoent stop there.

they put the site together in hopes of helping victims. meet alexis lonning and erin scott. they're your average 13-year old girls -- but have problem...we see it everyday." alexis and erin say they with...i've always thought, oh my god...why are these people which has prompted them...along with their friend katherine engelken from dubuque to create a website to help victims of cyberbullying. "so many people think it's not a problem, and they think it's okay and you can get away with it, but you can't, so we the site, not only lists stats on online buulying -- it also has a video the girls created. "that new girl katie is so wierd." "i know right?" "you should tell her." "should she send the text?" the girls say this type of bullying is hard for their parents to relate to because they didn't have to deal with it. "this idn't happen tour parents or grandparents, so its hard to talk to them, beeause they don't really see it all the

games left begining with a road test on wednesday at penn state. for the third time since becoming eligible in mid- decembereriowa state juuior transfer deonte burton is named big 12 newcomer of the week.. burton avergaed 15 points 3 boards and 1 point 5 blocks a game in leading the cyclones to a 1-1 record. burton had his best game against texas tech with 20 points... the cyclones return to action tomorrow night when they visit number 25 baylor.
