accused of videotapinga woman showering in a dorm bathroom. robert hightower is facing several charges. he allegedly videotaped a woman inside a shower in burge hall at the university of iowa. those at the university saz he was not a student and is not affiliated with the university of iowa. hightower is being held in the johnson county jail. police are still looking into this -- we'll have the very latest at 5 an iowa woman is behind bars after leaving her 4 and 5-year-old home alone without supervision according to manchester police. police were responding to a noise complaint-- when they arrived - they found the children home alone. officers discovered they were without supervision for more than 2 and a half hours. the department of human services was contacted and provided them with a place to stay. the mother returned when the officers were there and then was taken into custody. new details this afternoon... a woman has died following a mobile

the city says karen jacobs died yesterday afternoon. her husband ronald died from the fire on monday. the official cause of the fire remains listed as undetermined. cedar rapids fire officials couldn't determine the cause based on the amount of fire damage in the living room. however, smoking materials are considered a factor. an iowa firefighher fears his life is at risk... afttr a training exercise. garland shirley is a marshalltown and a des moines firefighter. during a training exercise, ice water got into his lungs and its problems. even if he gets a lung transplant, life expentancy is only a few years. but he recentlmade a trip to california and has some hope, thanks to stem cell harvesting treatmmt. unfortunately, his insurance doesn't cover it... i'd like to be active in his the opportunity to help somebody else is the best thing a person

des moines firefighters are now trying to raise money to help him. an online page has already raised more than 5- thousand dollars. a water main break causinn some issues today-- a sinkhole is now in the road, forcing it to close. in waterlloo -- river road between commercial street and ansborough avenue is closed waterloo police say this will likely be closed the rest of the day... they say the break caused a sinkhole... which then made a light pole cave in... in our next half hour we'll catch up with kwwl's amanda gilbert for the very y test. more concerns today over whether iowa's medicaid program is ready for a big switch...set to happen in two weeks. the state is t to hand over nagement of its medicaid system to three private companies. the switch was originally supporsed to happen january first but federal regulators didn't think the statewas ready. some lawmakers still aren't convinced... if i called cms would they say on....so we really dont know,

were ready march first the federal government could step in again to delay the switch. iowa lawmakers are moving a bill forward which could classify crimes committed against those who identify as transgender -- as a hate crime. while the bill has no registered opposition - it still needs approval by a full committee before friday to stay alive this session. in south dakota -- they're on track to be the first state to tell transgender students which bathrooms they must use. a bill moving through the statehouse would require public school students to use bathrooms which correspond with how they were born... not necessarily the gender they identify with now. the same rule would apply to locker rooms and showers. the state's governor is expected to sign this bill and make it law... police arrest a teenager after they say he was posing as a the office in a real florida medical building with real practices. neighbors saw a new practice pop up but had no idea happening but you're right i

or blew over from the wind.... that is what caused the sink hole and water to spill out over the road... they tell me it took truckloads of dirt to fill this hole... the area where tts happened is near facility.... the water main break did affect that facility earlier this morning.... but the issue has been resolved... we've got you covered... amanda gilbert...kwwl news. water works says a car crash may have caused the fire hydrant to get knocked over... but they are continuing coverage -- of a shooting investigation. arrests are made a year after a teenager from vinton died. and some of the charges are drug related. investigators say emma redlinger was year after a friend mishandled a gun. six people were taken into custody yesterday. that includes robyn merchant who's facing a federal charge of

who shouldn't have one. a 17-year-old was also charged with involuntary manslaughter. others face charges for things like drug possessiooand lying to law enforcement. we're digging more into this today -- look for the latest at kwwl dot com. a teacher faces charges -- accused of stealing medication. doug wilkinson of cedar falls was arrested this month in connection to missing prescription drugs at holmes junior high. wilkinson is a high school english teacher. he'' accused of stealing studenen medication - including adderall. court records says security video allegedly shows him taking pills from the nurse's cabinet... "well i was scked. i thought i heard everything, but yea i was we reached out to the school district -- which tells us this is a confidential personnel matter. student loans are a part of life for so many people. and many struggle to pay them back.

someone being arrested for unpaid loans? it happened in texas. paul aker says u-s marshals surrounded his home and arrested him. he says he had no idea why. it wasn't until the ride to jail he got an anner. ananoutstanding student loan... "what? all those guys and all those guns for a student loan? how much? the judge will tell you, the judge wants to see you." aker says he had two others loans he paid off -- but claims he didn't know he still owed 15-hundred dollars. they rolled out a list of notices -- but aker sasas he didn't receive them. u-s marshals claim aker resisted arrest and the situation escalated when he told them he had a gun. they say in houston alone, about 15-hundred people have been identified for not addressing their student loans -- so warrants have been issued for their arrest. according to the world health organizaton - three to four million people across the western hemisphere have been affected by the zika virus. kwwl's amanda

with a friend of hers -- who actually got the zika virus while in venezuela this past winter break. she share's her story with us today... "feliz navidad" college junior isabella gutierrez was in venezuela for she woke up with a headache and joint pain... "i remember my wrists felt really weak. it was really hard to like change my clothes." at first she thought she had the flu... "the fatigue, the headache, the nausua, and even the joint pain. i didn't think it could be something like zika." it wasn't until l days later when gutierrez noticed a rash on her skin... "it really varried in terms of the rash, in terms of how painful it was. one hour i didnt even notice it, and it as ok, and i could go on with my day, and then the next hour it would get the flu... "my aunt, as soon s she saw the rash, she knew exactly what is was because she had

pregnancy for two years becuase of the dangerous effect zika can have on pregnant woman. this could be a major breakthrough in the fight against cancer. it's a treatment called "immuno- therapy." seattle researchers say it helps a person's immune system fight off cancer cells in a way the research has not been published, norhas it been reviewed by other scientists. a porch prowler who was caught on a security camera stealing a package has apparently had a change of heart. the crime happened when police say the thief came up to a home, and took a package off the front porch. inside the package were $300 in birthday gifts for the homeowner's 12-year-old daughter. the thief apparently had second thoughts about his crime, because on tuesday the homeowner found both the returned package and a note outside his home. the note read, "so sorry. hope this helps. i know i can't make it right, but i hope this helps" ... "the apology note seems sincere enough on paper. i think the real test will be whether or not they change their behavior
