continuing coverage: this morning, flights are expected to run smoothly in and out of waterloo -- after an unexpected landing yesterday. an american airlines plane left sioux falls for chicago, but was forced to land at the waterloo airport. crews say they saw smoke coming from the cockpit. passengers tell kwwl they could "we heard this terrible noise that was ongoing. so we were swearing." after about a four-hour wait, passengers left on a new plane, but a few decided to keep their feet on the ground and make the drive to chicago. this morning, three people are in the hospital after this

water. it happened in pearl harbor. people who saw it happen -- jumped into the water to rescue board. there were five people on the chopper. at least three were taken to the hospital. one of those patients -- a 16- year-old is in critical condition. the helicopter is owned by a company that gives tours of hawaii. scary moments at a grocery store when an s-u-v slams into it. police in texas say a man drove right through the front door. a woman inside the store -- and the driver of the s-u-v -- are in the hospital this morning. there's no word on how they're doing -- or why the s-u-v hit back in iowa -- and a tragedy at a construction site. an iowa man has died after falling from a cell phone tower. the hamilton county sheriff's office says stefan watermann from anamosa, fell working at a site near ellsworth. he was 28. two people have died after a construction accident in new jersey. a five-ton generator fell

it was being lowered into place when a strap snapped. osha is now investigating. one person is injured after two semis collide. it happened in chickasaw county. authorities say one truck lost control, crossed the center line and hit the other. a central iowa school goes into lockdown after a parent allegedly makes threats against staff members. the man apparently walked into the maxwell school and confronted the principal. the principal thinks the man was upset over something that happened on the bus. when the man left, the school locked down until the man was arrested. a school bus goes up in flames moments after everyone is able to get off the bus. take a look at the fire in alabama. the driver saw smoke coming from the front of the bus -- and quickly got everyone off safely. "you could actually feel the whole bus engulfed in flames." "we all got off the back of the bus and we went over there and then the whole front of the

eventually the rest of the bus caught on fire." some question the school's transportation policy -- saying the bus was picked up from mechanics just hours before it caught fire. the fbi is searching a home connected to a relative of one of the san bernardino shooters. the california home has been searched before... but thursday federal agents were seen carrying out a box of things and a computer. they would not comment on the search. public money for planned parenthood is being stripped in one state. wisconsin governor scott walker signed two new laws that cut millions of dollars from the organization in wisconsin. "we want to make sure that as that they're used in a way that's responsible and reasonable." one law cuts four million dollars by restricting how much planned parenthood can be reimbursed for

the other new law eliminates three-and-a-half million dollars --- specifically because some planned parenthood clinics provide abortions. to decision 2016. the final arguments today for democrats in nevada and republicans in south carolina. tracie potts has the latest developments -- including donald trump's back-and- forth with the pope. the clinton family campaigns in nevada today. with just 24 hours to go till nevada's democratic caucus...hillary clinton and bernie sanders are essentially tied, both going after the state's large latino electorate: "my immigration policy is to unite families, not to divide families." the supreme court justice died hall of the supreme court building. the funeral will be held tomorrow. new sanctions for north korea are now law. president obama signed off on the new sanctions yesterday. they're designed to punish north korea for launching nuclear and missile tests -- as well as suspected cyber attacks. the measures freeze the assets of anyone doing business related to north korea's nuclear or weapons programs --or anyone suspected of being involved in human rights abuses in north korea. for 10 years. a crowd cheers in alabama as a passenger train arrives for the first time since hurricane katrina -- damaged the tracks. amtrak ran it as a test. it has not announced plans to bring back regular service. a strange story out of detroit. a couple traveling from south korea is accused of trying

million dollars in fake money into the u-s. officers found it as the couple showed up at a detroit airport. they say the couple brought it and planned to burn it in honor of those who have died. it's common in the vietnamese culture. authorities say since they never tried to spend it -- they were not arrested. this morning, an exotic animal is on the road to recovery -- thanks to a rescue on the side of the road in dubuque county. sheriff's deputies found a bearded dragon. kwwl's brad hanson tells us about the animal's recovery. meet daenerys, named after the popular hbo series counterpart, the story of how daenerys got here is the stuff the side of the road by these two deputies--frozen nearly to death. 53 million dollars in debt. a woman opens a can of green beans... for a surprise, she'd like to forget. the woman in utah -- was making dinner for a church youth function -- when she found a snake head. right in the middle of all those beans. the manufacturer -- western family -- now says cans are being pulled off the shelves. "when i went to dish them out, i thought it was a burnt bean and low and behold it was a is taking steps to make sure something like this doesn't happen to anyone else. the time now is today is an important deadline for a christmas gift -- that ended up in the hands of thousands of people across the country. so what happens if they don't meet today's deadline?

today is the deadline fthe rule was announced last year... before about one million drones were sold for the holidays. only 300- thousand registered in the first month after that. but as mark barger tells us after today, anyone else who hasn't -- have lots of company in the skies these days. and with the popularity of drone aircraft rising steadily drone owners need to get squared away with the faa. "this registration is a way for the faa to keep tabs on drone owners and basically anyone who's got a drone that's over half a pound or under 55 lbs process... users pay 5 dollars for a three- year registration with the faa... and they're presented with safety guidelines. "we want to raise public awareness, for many operators of unmanned aircraft, particularly hobbyists, they may not be aware of what the rules are" the f-a-a also has an app called before you fly ("b4ufly") that shows the flying rules wherever you are. pose potential problems... so the f-a-a hopes education will help reduce collisions with other aircraft, as well as

"if you're flying a drone you definitely have to be mindful of the people around. they could actually be dangerous if you hit somebody." even if you're just flying drones for fun... not registering could mean consequences not-so-fun.
