but the meeting was interupted multiple times by protestors, kwwl's kristin rogers was there for all of the action. as you are about to see president bruce harreld was twenty minutes or so in to his presentation regarding a vareity of topics such as student housing and facutly salaries, when the first protestor interupted. after the ice was broken the interuptions continued to pour university of iowa meant to focus on improving the school, harreld went through his presentation interupted when talking about having world class people at the school. harreld: "i said you, i didn't harreld: "i'm not suprised." (crowd cheers) it was that response that quickly fueled the protesting fire as the woman was quickly defended. the president continued to defend himself. harreld: "excuse me sir these signs that are standing up are insulting me." but the entire crowd

many people expressed their frustration with what they believe was a corrupt hiring process. every time he said no, he is here to stay. we've got you covered live, kristin rogers kwwl news." president harreld's contract is up on november first of 2020, he told us tongiht at that point continuing coverage -- opening statements today in the murder trial for a man accused of killing his wife. 41-year-old alexander fazzino is charged with first degree murder in the death of emily fazzino. emily's body was found on the bathroom floor at their home in boone in 2012. her grandfather founded the fareway stores grocery chain. both sides agreeing this morning that emily fazzino did have a previous addiction to prescription medication.

to show she was on the path to recovery -- and that they will emphasize there were no traces of those opiates found in her blood following the death. they'll also try to show she was planning to leave her husband -- mainly after police were called (daniel kolacia, boone county who was slowly getting stronger at this time, standing up to alex, wanted to get away." on the other hand -- the defense plans to show emily as an addict. they claim emily had a history of fainting from withdrawl symptoms -- which they believe led to her accidentall drowning. testimony will continue tomorrow morning another murder trial beginning today -- for a woman accused of fatally stabbing her ex- boyfriend. jodie sherman, of council bluffs, is charged with first degree murder in the 2014 death of douglas richt. police say sherman stabbed richt in the throat during an

defense attorneys are expected to plead insansity in the trial. one person is killed after a head-on collision involving three vehicles. it happened at the intersection of highway two and lilac avenue in davis county. the iowa state patrol says one vehicle was stopped on the roadway, yielding to make a left hand turn. 63-year-old marilyn roberts was driving behind when she swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid the stopped car. roberts then struck a different van head-on, driven by 82-year-old forest lawson. lawson was killed in the crash. his passenger, carolyn lawson was taken to an area hospital, along with roberts. the extent of their injuries are not known at this time. a mental health patient is accused of stealing an ambulance after police say he escaped. police say 36 year old joshua rohner wandered off from the emergency room at covenant hospital early this morning. his escape forcing a nearby school to lockdown after crashing the amublance through the hospital's garage.

-- as police eventually found him just blocks away from the hospital. kwwl speaking with one resident who says he saw the man trying to find an unlocked car -- "i looked out the window and there was about four or five screaming bloody murder that they were going to kill him or something." many of course wondering how he was able to steal the ambulance. we reached out to the hospital -- but they are not commenting at this time. meanwhile -- charges are pending against rohner. the national search for uni's new athletic director is coming to an end. the university says it will announce the new director at a press conference tomorrow afternoon. the former a-d - troy dannen agreed to take a position at tulane university in new orleans this past december. kwwl's jessica hartman has an overall look at what you need to know going into tomorrow's

the two and a half month search coming down to two candidates. and kwwl's sports director rick coleman tells me they are two very strong candidates. on the short list to replace troy dannen these two men. dave harris and peter fields - both with 10 years or more of senior associate athletics director for student services at iowa state. peter fields --director of athletics at montana state university. hartman "talking with athletes are excited no matter who is of the athletic department." "they've got coaches that have finding dollars." just like any other smaller conference school struggles - - big 10 schools seem scoop up most of the athletic funds available. already holding several dangerous terrorists here in the u-s -- so he says he also noted that we are already holding several dangerous terrorists here in the u-s -- so he says that shouldn't be a worry. a fire causes a crane to collapse at a constuction site. take a look at it here in australia, fire crews believe an electrical fire started in the motor of the crane -- leading to the collapse. luckily nobody was injured in the incident and the crews were able to get the fire under control. a small plane crashes onto the street -- and a surveillance camera catches the moment it happens. look closely at the top left corner of your screen. you see the plane hit the pavement during the emergency landing in california. take a second look at it -- the plane suffered significant damage in the crash. several parked cars were also damaged.
