today has been much calmer in the courtroom--at least for the families of both sides. but lawyers for both sides throwing out plenty of objections as they got into the thick of testimony today. a lot of that testimony surrounding bruising found on emily's neck. police officers, a firefighter and paramedics all grilled today about their handling of emily's body as they were trying to resusictate her and transport her to the hospital. a boone police officer also called to this stand this afternoon, talking mostly about his impressions of alex fazzino the night of emily's officer) "i found it odd that he was crying, up and down with his didn't see any tears." the defense countered with a video of aimee deighton--emily's sister. they say although deighton cried at first, she recovered

the owners of club 319 have a right to appeal the denial.. we reached out to the owners today- but have not heard back. new at five... the university of northern iowa has named the new leader of its athletic department. today uni president bill ruud announced iowa state senior associate athletic director david harris as the panthers' new athletic director. harris replaces troy dannen who left to become a-d at tulane university. sports director rick coleman was at the press conference to introduce harris. - which we streamed live on kwwl dot com. rick joins us live to talk about the new u-n-i athletic director. david harris is a very impressive young man with a clear picture of the challenges he will face as well as what he would like to accomplish

panther student athletes, coaches, faculty and support staff...harris thanked many of the people who supported his journey to become the uni athletic director. harris says it is important that he connect with people in the cedar valley. as with most mid- major schools... harris says the biggest challenge facing northern iowa is financial. at a place like uni, that's gonna be even more extreme. so clearly coming in trying to find a way that as our coaches and our student athletes are coming to us saying these are the things that we're going to need to compete. iowa state athletic director jamie pollard who has worked closely with harris over the past 14 years at wisconsin and iowa state---was at today's press conference. harris called pollard the single we will have more on harris at six.

bringing a death toll from bad weather to five. severe weather hits throughout the east and the south == take a look at this drone video over pensacola, florida... you can see damage to several buildings with debris scattered all over the ground. the tornado tore up a two mile path - hittings homes, cars and trees. at last report, at least 70 homes and 24 apartments were severely damaged. a man's e- cigarette explodes while it's in his pocket.... stop what you're doing and look at the television right now... you're looking at the guy on the right -- he's at a register in kentucky. and all of the sudden - fire! the e-cigarette battery blows in his pocket over the weekend - he an employee at the store was really confused about what was happening.
