rapids are up this year. kwwl's kristin rogers spending the day sifting through the numbers and talking with people in city, kristin? i spoke with police chief wayne jerman earlier this afternoon and he said he was alarmed by the number of shooting incidents in january, and now the department is dealing with the first fatal shooting of the year. say they interviewed a number of people following last night's homicide, one thing they are sure of is that it was not random. we've got you covered live in cedar rapids, kristin rogers, kwwl news. the police department announcing their new police community action team or p-cat, a little more than a month ago. the team was created to address the violence in the city, we are told they were not shooting. continuing coverage -- testimony continuing today in the murder trial for a man accused of killing his wife. today's focus on the victim's injuries... 41-year-old alexander fazzino is charged with first degree murder in the death of emily fazzino. emily's body was found on the bathroom floor at their home in boone in 2012. her grandfather founded the fareway stores grocery chain. the family's nanny -- cassie

she says met emily at the daycare she worked at and had emily's youngest child in her class. in her testimony, frye says emily was growing more and more worried about the safety of herself and her children in the days leading up to her death. (cassie frye, nanny) "i asked emily two questions. the first yes, i asked her if she was worried that alex would harm her in anyway or he would kill was emily's response? she nodded her head yes." during cross examination, frye admitting although they were very close, she didn't know about emily's addiction to prescription medication until emily was clean
