in the upper 30s and lower 40s with a mostly sunny sky. saturday will feature a breezy sw wind, which will warm us to the 50s with a mostly sunny sky. sunday will also be warm with a high in the lower 50s, with a slight chance storm in the midwest early next developing overnight: a fourth person has now died because of severe weather in virginia. at least 25 people were hurt in that state. appomattox county -- in virginia -- was hit very hard. there is debris everywhere. tornadoes cut a six-mile path of destruction. across the state, many homes were destroyed, power lines are down -- along with countless trees. rescue crews are still looking to make sure everyone has been accounted for. they'll get a better look at the damage there -- and in storms damaged many homes in that state.

about 60 miles west of philadelphia. tens of thousands of people are without power this morning. continuing coverage this morning of a deadly shooting in eastern iowa. no one's been arrested. in fact, cedar rapids police don't know exactly who they're looking for. a man from chicago was shot and killed on tuesday night. it happened at the cedar valley townhouses on the city's southwest side. joseph perkins junior died. police say another man is in the hospital after being shot in the leg. "i was looking out the window and i heard some yelling, and i looked, and then i heard some gunshots, and i ducked down and then i heard some more." police believe the killer might have gotten into a car with other people after the shooting -- but that's about as much as they know right now. shootings in cedar rapids are up this year. this video comes from different investigations in the past two months. in january of 2014 -- there were three reports of shots fired.

last month. some people we talked to say they're not that concerned about it. "i've heard the city being shocked by that because i don't see, i don't feel unsafe in this city, i don't, when i step off campus i don't necessarily feel unsafe." to be clear police consider a shots fired situation whenever shell casings are found or there is property damage, it's not always just when there is a victim. this morning, a person is recovering after being hit by a car in downtown waterloo. it happened last night. police say the driver was making a turn onto 4th street when it happened. we've been told the victim has minor injuries. a veteran sheriff's deputy is being remembered this morning in colorado. he was shot and killed serving an eviction notice. it happened yesterday at a home in bailey, colorado. that's southwest of denver.

her body was found on the bathroom floor at their home in boone in 2012. her grandfather founded the fareway grocery chain. the family's nanny took the worried about her safety in the days leading up to her death. "i asked emily two questions. she said yes, i asked her if she would harm her or kill her. what was emily's response? she nodded her head yes." during cross examination, she admitted although they were very close, she didn't know about emily's addiction to prescription drugs until emily was clean and told

the defense is trying to show that she never saw the defendant hurt his wife. it's turning into a supreme squabble on both sides. the president says he'll nominate someone to replace the late supreme court justice scalia. republicans say the nomination will be met with silence. tracie potts tells us -- a key iowan in the process -- will soon meet with the president. "we will not have hearings. in short, there will not be action taken." but now the white house and senate confirm that chuck grassley - the republican head of the judiciary committee that holds supreme court confirmation hearings - will meet with president obama next week. nbc news has also confirmed the white house is vetting a republican - nevada governor and former federal judge brian sandoval - to replace justice scalia. "and i think it will be very difficult for mr. mcconnell to explain how if public concludes this person is very well qualified, that the senate should stand in way

"this is a way for democrats and the white house to extract maximum pain on republicans." democrats have a petition, one-point- three million people who say the senate should not block the president's nominee. "it is wrong, and i don't believe the american people will stand for this. the senate needs to do it's job." republican leaders insist they won't even consider an obama appointee during an election year. there is still no word on how long it could be before president obama names someone. i'm tracie potts in washington, now back to you. senator grassley continues to face questions about why republicans refuse to consider whoever the president nominates. grassley has a big role as chair of the senate judiciary committee. we interviewed him yesterday. this is something where the advantage of that but don't forget the congress' role is consent to his nominee. we can not consent. or we can just

as we mentioned earlier -- senator grassley will meet with the president next week. republicans want the next president to choose a nominee. the race for the white house takes us to texas tonight for another debate. republican presidential hopefuls face-off in houston. coming off his win in nevada tuesday night, frontrunner donald trump hopes to build on that momentum -- just days before super tuesday. a former republican presidential nominee says he believes there could be a "bombshell" in donald trump's tax history. mitt romney told fox news that trump and other candidates need to release all their tax information. he suggested trump is not as wealthy as he claims, and is not paying certain taxes. this is what trump had to say "well because my returns are nobody's been bringing it up
