vidcycle manager jacob burns says vapor users need to be cautious of their high-powered batteries. "the battery starts to get extremely hot, and when that does, it's a warnring sign it's about to ven and blow up." "vaping experts say people need to be mindful of their devices and keep their batteries separate. putting everything your pocket without a cheap cover is like setting off a pipe bomb." these are aftermath photos of 23-year-old geoff morehead's burns -- whose vaping batteries blew up in his pocket in fort dodge -- back in january. geoff's employer didn't allow vaping devices at work -- so one day -- he left his vapor in hhs car -- but put his batteries in his pocket. moments later -- he was rushed to the hospital to be treated for burns. jake burns says he stresses e-cigarette safety to every buyer. decooah. kwwl's brad hanson in court for us today as family members recall the days and hours leading up to emily's death. certainly an emotional day in court as ammie dighton, emily's sister, and her husband both took the stand. much of their testimony centered on the events of the day of emily's death--when both families were at a wrestling tournament in ames. the dighton's both testifying that emily anddlex didn't go together or sit together while there. it was the last time either of them saw emily alive. jeff dighton was called to the house shortly after police arrived--he describes the scene as they walked in. (jeff dighton, emily's brother- and amiee testifying today they were unaware of emily's addiction to prescription medication. both also saying they didn't ever see emily under the influence or see her suffer from any withdrawal symptoms. we've got you covered in decorah, brad hanson, kwwl

also testifying this morning - the department of criminal investigation agent who worked on this case. testimony will ontinue tooorrow morning. an attorney for a man accused of sexually assaulting and beating to death a church secretary says his client is unable to understand the charges against hihidue to a mental disorder. a public defender for 20-year-old helmon betwell filed a motion tuesday requesting a hearing to determine betwell's competency to stand trial. the attorney asked to have the trial suspended until the court holds the hearing. betwell is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree sexual assault for the september first death of 66-year-old nancyy krapfl.. he is alss charged with two counts of third- degree burglary.

foods business is sentenced to two years ii prison for cooitting fraud in exporting beef products to malaysia and indonesia. a federal judge in cedar rapids granted 74-year-old william aossey jr. some leniency, departing from federal guidelines that called for a longer sentence. he is convicted for directing employees to falsify packaging labels so midamar could export beef products that did not meet malaysian and indonesian standards for religiousubased slaughter. a man is sentenced to prison for distributing pure meth. 36-year-old seth beard admitted that between 2013 and 2015 he distributed almost four pounds of pure meth to the cedar falls area. ard is sentenced to 17 years in federal prison with no chance at parole. an update to a pedestrian-related crash reported last night in

this woman -- 29- year-old amy garretson of waterloo -- was hit by a 62-year-old driver last night near east fourth and lafayette -- following a dinner at jameson's. cording to witnesses -- amy in the cross walk. her husband -- john molseed -- is with amy at university of iowa hospitals and clinic. john says he is disappointed the driver was not cited. "this was not something that anybody intended, and i forgive them for that. but, in terms of accountable in circumstances like this." john says amy is currently in the intenstive care unit in iowa city. at last check -- she is stable -- but brain swelling issxpected to peak -- and then go down within the next 48

an iowa driver is killed after being hit by a piece of debris. it happened yesterdayayfternoon in davenport off of i- 80. the iowa state patrol says the debris on the road went through though they say they can't describe the debris. the driver's name hasn't been released and the accident is still under investigation. the city of des moines is going to pay up following a car crash involving a police officer. this is what the victim's car looked like wwe an officer t-boned it a few years ago. the officer ran a red light. he did not have his lights on and jury is awarding the people in the car nearly half a million dollars for their injuries. the city of cedar rapids still trying to recover after the floods of 2008...to the tune of 80 million yet to receive a single dollar in federal funding for construction of flood proteetion. kwwl's kristin rogers lived in

"now, kwwl sportswrestling tournament will be making its inagural appearance on broadway. the world famous madison square garden in new york city will host the wrestling championships on march 17th through the 19th. today the ncaa announced the qualifier allocations for each conference. as expected--- the big ten conference recieved 71 automatic bids. this year's big ten conference wrestling champions will be held on march 5th and 6th at carver hawkeye arena in iowa city. the big 12 conference will receive 36 automatic bids to the ncaa wrestling championships...big 12 wrestling tournament is the weekend of march 5th and 6th in kansas city--iowa state is a member of the 8-team conference. and the eleven member mid- american conference of which uni is a member received
