weekend. however, there is a weather maker to our east, which will stay there but as it spins over the great lakes, we could see a stray shower today - most will stay dry. highs will be cool again, in the low 60s (about 10 degrees below our average at this time of year). breezy winds could make it feel a little cooler. which will stay there but as it it's a major flood, there's damage, but it could've been worse. a lot worse. that's what we're hearing from cedar rapids this morning after the cedar river crested at about 22 feet yetserday.

still a very dangerous situation. here's a look from the air from our kwwl drone. about ten miles of temporary barriers -- put up in just a few days -- along with a quarter of a million sandbags are protecting many homes and businesses. city workers and contractors have been working long hours -- looking for any weaknesses in the system. but as you can see -- some buildings and homes do have water. schools are closed again today. in fact -- they won't reopen in cedar rapids until monday. the city says it won't feel comfortable again until the river falls below 18 feet. this kwwl drone video shows some of the buisnesses affected in the newbo area in cedar rapids. it's one of the hardest hit areas in the city. on the other side of the hesco barriers -- businesses are dry... forget that my neighbors and my good friends on the other side of this wall are deeply impacted." tornado's pub and kickstand, among some of those businesses impacted. the city says they couldn't put the barriers on the other side because the ground is uneven. they're now focused on what's underground. the city says there's tremendous pressure on the sewer system. workers are keeping a close eye on pipes. in other parts of eastern iowa -- the cleanup effort is coming together. there's a lot of damage in clarksville because of the shell rock river -- which flooded. piles of drywall and other debris piled at the end of drive-ways. take a step inside one of these homes and it becomes clear just how much was taken by the floods. one man moved back to

"i don't think so." and he isn't alone --- 150 other homeowners faced with the same decision. fema will be in clarksville later this week to take a look at the the cedar river continues to drop in the cedar valley. some neighborhoods in the north cedar area still dealing with a lot of water. but many have shifted to cleanup mode-- this family just able to get into their house yesterday to start cleaning. still has six inches of standing water in some of his fields. iowa's a-g secretary says with low commodity prices, producers need every bushel they can get. your crops off but you're holding off because who knows what october will bring. you kind of get used to it, but it's a little tiring." iowa has 23 million acres of corn and soybeans. all farmers with flooded fields can do now -- is wait for thte to go down to see if their crops can be salvaged. in parts of jones county -- the wapsi river has crested. homeowners just hoping it's not as bad as 2008. "that was a tough one, fought very hard to save the basement. to re-do the entire first floor of our house. and when you got a house that was built in 1863, that's a lot of work."

hands. he was then shot after pulling something out of his pocket. the shooting sparked an uproar in a community. some restaurant employees say police tooks their phones and "there's a lot of hurt and a lot going on." police have not said if the man who was shot -- had a gun. hundreds of protesters march in tulsa to their support for terence crutcher and his family. ru ago -- after his car was stopped in the middle of the road. officers say crutcher was acting erratically, and not listening to them. he was not armed. the officer who shot him has been charged with manslaughter. a man seen ramming patrol cars is in the hospital this morning after being shot by police. it happened in phoenix in a convenience store parking lot. no officers were hurt. the suspect is in critical condition.

leader is being remembered. former israeli president shimon peres died. he was 93. israel's oldest statesman born in poland. he served many roles in his 60-year career in politics -- including as the country's prime minister. today, friends, family members and teammates will say good-bye to jose fernandez. the miami marlins all-star pitcher was killed in a boating accident. today, the president will meet with service members. . he'll be in fort lee, virginia for a town hall focusing on veterans, national security, and foreign policy. he'll also take questions from active service members and veterans in the audience. now to those who would be president. donald trump and hillary clinton will be in iowa over the next few days. trump will hold a rally at the mid- america center in council bluffs today. the campaign is launching the

the event begins at 2:30. clinton will be in des moines tomorrow for an early voting event. that event begins at 12:30. their debate on monday night was the most watched presidential debate ever. 84 million people saw it. the debate was moderated by n-b-c's lester holt. the old re w that debate between the democratic incumbent jimmy carter -- and his republican challenger -- ronald reagan. since then -- no debate has ever had more than 70 million viewers -- until the other night. tonight's new episode of "law and order svu" features a guest star -- a bit out of the norm for the show. vice president joe biden makes a cameo in the episode, playing himself. it's connected to the white house's campaign to prevent sexual assault.

the water from the wapsi crossed the the north end of the highway 150 bridge. it was closed most of sunday but reopened monday morning. keep sharing your pictures with us on our kwwl facebook page. today is national good neighbor day -- but you could say -- it's been celebrated all week long in eastern iowa. here's another example: more than 70 students from tripoli high school headed west to help people in clarksville. then last night -- the clarksville volleyball team gave thas their match with tripoli. this is homecoming weekend in iowa city. the hawks won't be at full strength against northwestern. we started hearing about this on monday night -- but yesterday it was confirmed. wide receiver matt vandeberg is out -- indefinitely -- after hurting his foot in practice. the senior leads all hawkeye receivers in catches and touchdowns. a football field in iowa becomes

13-hundred students from west des moines schools came together to spell the word friend. this is part of a movement to prevent bullying. they want kids to know that friendship can come in many different forms -- and from "hopefully kids with problems that they just can't talk to their parents about it or they're scared to talk to their parents about it." student ambassadors from each building are wo encouraging others to be considerate and spread friendship. they want to be pictured as champs, but first team u-s-a has to get their picture on the golf course. and it wasn't exactly smooth. golf's ryder cup is this weekend in minnesota. yesterday -- during the team picture -- tiger woods tries to get in the team picture twice. the problem is -- he's not playing. he's a vice captain. this is a picture of the guys who are playing for team u- s-a this
