not all of it going towards the real victims. and... new information tonight in a shooting at an elementary school, which left two students and a ""you're watching kwwl, we've got you covered. this is the news at ten." good evening everyone, i'm ron steele. and i'm amanda goodman. thanks the wapsi river's elevated levels affecting the jones county town of olin. flooding having a big impact on both those inside and out of the city. kwwl's brad hanson was in olin earlier tonight, and joins us live from the telegraph herald newsroom in dubuque with the latest. the wapsi river has crept into both cornfields and city streets alike, causing all sorts of problems for the small town of about 700.

wednesday--a woman forced to the town completely shut down--submerged. these houses suddenly become waterfront properties, with water seeping into their basements. sadly, many say this is nothing new. (linda petersen, olin) "we got the routine, okay we know the water's coming up, move everything up, move everything to higher ground. and then wait for the water to rise, and go back down." but the familiarity doesn't make it any easier. "and it breaks my heart to have to throw out my daughter's because, well i was really...i said, i'm sorry, but it's been flooded, there's no saving that kinda stuff." the flooding also taking it's toll on many farmers in the area. damage widespread on this farm. (shirley davis, olin) "our corn crop, basically. our pasture is gone, which we'll probably never get back into. the new seeding...hopefully it hangs on." davis estimates nearly 400 acres of land have at least a little water on it. she says she won't know for sometime if she'll be able to salvage any of

hospital, but are expected to be ok. back to flooding coverage now -- in cedar falls -- north cedar struggling to clean up what the flood waters left behind. take a look --- flood waters from this weekend leaving many people unable to reach their homes. some using kayaks--- to get to their homes before the waters receded. kwwl's jessica hartman was in volunteers at the living water church have been working around the clock to make sure victims of the flood have had everything they need. but not everyone who has come for supplies has been a victim. days after the cedar river left the north cedar community underwater --- this church is stacked table after table with supplies. a rotating door of people bringing in donations and flood victims collecting the bare necessities for

people taking supplies -- haven't been flood victims. one family even using fake tears to sell their lie. "actually stole a lot of hearts around the area. people came out in droves to take care of them. people are like that." and they haven't been the only ones -- "and that is one of the hardest parts about this, you can't gage. . .i would never tell to this help. we have had a few people who have taken full advantage it and taken $100 things when their home didn't get flooded." but for every person abusing the good will --- there are countless stories of people in need and people stepping up to fill the need. don't

during the floods. police say it happened sometime between friday and tuesday morning. the items stolen include an apple ipad tablet, tv, hd cameras, and a radar gun. no arrests have been made. here's a look at an overhead view of cedar rapids from our kwwl drone. the cedar river cresting there yesterdfay at neay it's expected to below below flood stage by the weekend --and some people are already returning to their homes. a couple of quick notes -- the linn county courthouse remains closed --but the juvenille center is expected to reopen tomorrow. mid-american energy also saying today it is working with the city to restore natural gas to those who had theirs shut off. governor branstad touring some of the hardest hit areas by the flooding. here's a look at vinton earlier

people working to protect their homes. the governor saying he's impressed with the preparations in vinton. still, about 30 homes did sustain some damage one woman's basement filling up with water. she lost everything back in the 2008 floods --and says it's tough to go through it all over in with whatever he can. this is one of 21 counties now assistance avaliable and we would expect once the assesment has been done that we will be requesting a presidential disaster designation as well. you can see the hesco barriers are still standing strong- the governor says he believes they kept much of the community safe.

clean-up process. if you would like to help -- please call 2-1-1 continuing coverage -- tonight we're hearing from witnesses after a 13-year-old girl is shot and killed. ireshia parks, of cedar rapids died yesterday at mercy medical center. she was shot in the 800 block of 15th street south- east. officers were in the area helping with flood patrol --so they were quickly able to take three suspects into custody. one man says he heard the gunshots early yesterday morning. "i heard a pop and it was loud like a, it sounded like a faint gunshot." the three in custody are an 18- year-old man --and two teenage boys -- one of which is a 13-year-old. he faces charges of involuntary

an iowa man is missing after not returning home from a hunting trip. the 60-year-old decorah man was hunting in the crazy mountains in montana last week. he was expected to be home monday or tuesday --but never showed up. a group of hunters telling authorities they met a man near the lake --but they were concerned when he didn't return to his vehicle. a sexual assault is reported at a fraternity house at the the person reportedly went to the house with friends sometime last weekend, but separated and then was allegedly assaulted by someone they didn't know. it's the first sexual assault reported on campus this semester. decision 2016 coverage -- donald trump in iowa today --holding a rally in the western part of the state. trump speaking at the mid-america center in council bluffs. his campaing launching "iowa

condition tonight after a shooting at an elementary school. another student and a teacher were also injured in the shooting in south carolina, but have since been released from the hospital. authorities say the teen gunman first shot and killed his father --then opened fire outside the school. he was taken into custody a short time after.

dr. joanne avery / school superintendent district "we are heartbroken about this senseless act of violence but we are so thankful for the quick response by law enforcement and school employees who prevented further injuries. school is canceled for the rest of the week. the suspected gunman is a 14- year-old who is home-schooled. hundreds protesting today after an unarmed man is shot by police. the 38-year-old man was shot officers were responding to reports of a man acting out of control. they say he did not listen to orders and acted as if he was going to shoot at them, even pulling out something from his pocket. that's when officers shot and killed him. police now saying the man is believed to be mentally ill. a worker is rescued after falling 20 feet into a deep concrete vault. emergency crews in california

good evening, i'm rick coleman. it is homecoming this saturday at kinnick --the iowa hawkeyes prepare to entertain the northwestern wildcats. the hawkeyes are a two touchdown favorite to win their second big while the hawkeyes were slipping by rutgers 14-7 in their first big ten game of the season in piscataway, new jersey... the wildcats were losing their big ten opener in evanston.. twentieth ranked nebraska. the loss dropped northwestern to 1 and 3 overall on the season. despite the wildcats' record---coach kirk ferentz and the hawkeyes expect a hardfought competitive game on saturday. they're always dangerous. if where they're at; i think most of us want to get better right now. they've got great young people on their team, and i expect

the college football hall of fame and is one of nine former duncan was the first player picked in the 1959 nfl draft by the green bay packers. he eventually played a couple of year in the canadian football league before retiring in 1961. duncan practiced law in des moines---and was a guest of coach kirk ferentz at kinnick several times... duncan is survived by his wife, paula, and sons scott and jed. deste kept students out of school in cedar rapids---there will be a football game this thursday night at kingston stadium in cedar rapids. both waterloo west and cedar rapids jefferson announcing they will play their football game as scheduled tomorrow night. officials are advising to allow extra travel time. the wahawks enter the game ranked eighth in the state with a 5 and oh record.. while jefferson is still looking for its first win
