6:03 pm
>> this thing was motoring but it caught the flag stick and goes straight down. >> drop the club kind of stuff. >> the fans who have been hanging here at 16 for a while waiting for some action, they got it there. >> what a performance a >> incredible golf that we've seen. >> it really has been one of the phenomenal days i've ever seen at the ryder cup. this patrick reed performance has been colossal this afternoon. jordan spieth has not played well at all, but reed has been magnificent. >> he's got a chance for a three, a chance to have the hole and that would end the match. the way he's played, mark, it wouldn't surprise me in the least.
6:04 pm
part of his game. >> all day long that putt hasn't broken. >> seven birdies and an eagle for patrick reed, and they can't quite close it out yet. >> they can't shake rose and stenson, as they go to 17. >> that's a dynamic duo, isn't it, rose and stenson, to take them out. they're not going to go quietly. somehow they willed that ball in the hole from off the green. >> while we have a moment let's send you to jimmy roberts again. >> davis love not used to being reduced to a spectator but that's where you are right now. are you surprised at how things have developed over the last half-hour or so?
6:05 pm
it's been an unbelievable day. both teams have been playing great. i watched a lot of that first match. those guys are making so many birdies. rory is playing unbelievable this week. our guys are playing great. hate to see a few little putts missed but i saw zach miss a couple and some of our guys as well. you can tell the pressure is getting to everybody. >> must feel good to see j.b. holmes and ryan moore, two points on the board. >> they didn't play bad yesterday. they were obviously a little tight going out. i knew today, i had a couple guys on our team saying they had a really good feeling about them. they played well. they really could have ended that match a little earlier, too. the whole team is playing great and that's what's nice. i've been saying owl week it's hard to sit guys out on this team. >> we'll see how it ends.
6:06 pm
going into singles only four times. rose and stenson hanging on by a thread. >> the sun setting right into the players' eyes right now. 8 iron. >> that's safe. i don't even know if rose can see it. >> long day of pressure shots for stenson. >> one of the great iron players in today's game, maybe the best. needs to be at his best right now. the u.s. looks like it is going to take a three-point lead into
6:07 pm
that would be the final tally after the team sessions if they were to get this full point. >> watch how tightly he grips his club. >> might have pulled it. a nice little hop off the mound to get stenson a little closer. >> very nice hop. >> what does patrick reed have in store here? it's not his favorite hole location with his draw. >> yeah, i've said that a couple
6:08 pm
number seven. he hits shot after shot. >> is the wind going right to left also? >> yeah. right to left, a little behind. >> it's not easy if you draw the ball here. >> is he going to pull off another one? a chance for four birdies in a >> he should probably wait until they win before he works up the crowd. it's not easy to take out rose and stenson. >> may not even need a birdie to close out rose and stenson. >> you know what i mean. see if spieth can get in on the action here. not swinging the greatest for him. >> he's just off.
6:09 pm
some real concern for tomorrow's singles for him. spieth has been riding reed pretty much the entire day, as the u.s. tries to culminate this

by the 12 singles matches. we get things going on nbc at noon eastern time. 11:00 out here in minnesota. as we get set to put a capper on this. memorable saturday at hazelton. one of the finest performances we can remember in ryder cup history, it has been that good. he just hit another nice shot in here to the 17. his card. rose and stanton trying to figure out another way to dodge the american -- probably the best round of patrick's career. >> i keep thinking back to medina on saturday afternoon late in the last match when i was out there watching ian poulter do that, and raepd has done it the entire round. poulter only has done it really the last five holes. >> all right. with reid in there tight. one of these you figure has to
6:12 pm
for europe. with the 3 wood. 3 metal i think. just to get it over that fringe clear. pushed it. pushed it all. but it was a good shot. not what he needed. that's not going to do him any good here. unless something crazy happens with reid. well, one more try. terrific duo from europe. stinson with that miraculous hole out at the previous hole to push this match to here. there's tiger and furyk.
6:13 pm
ryder cup committee in the united states which reorganized the effort after gleneagles a couple years ago, with more input from players and captains. concerted effort to turn around this european domination. the u.s. looking to be in great position to stop that european tide tomorrow. stinson here, for birdie. figure he's got to make this. >> not a lot of brake. >> can he do it again. >> very near. close to an eagle birdie.
6:14 pm
it was a good try. never broke until the last three feet. >> that means only two points for patrick reed to put this away. 9 1/2 to 6 1/2 point lead. >> nice lead for the u.s. a few years ago, it was 10-6, just a little bigger lead, and they let that one get away. but it is a significant lead. so amped up. now he just has to amp down. cozy it down there. >> is that kind of hard to do? not say to yourself, i don't need to make this? >> probably will get it in the way things are going. >> just what you need to do there. >> nice one.
6:15 pm
