now on today in iowa: one candidate trying to play catch up in a key battleground state. the other facing questions about taxes. plus a college party ends with two students being shot. today -- but there's still a lot of cleanup left because of the flooding. volunteers are needed. money is also needed in another state -- as we find out how costly the flooding has been. i'm jerry gallagher. let's check on your weather now with storm track 7 meteorologist eileen loan. good morning. a few areas of dense fog have

morning, but should all burn off by the middle of the morning hours. we are in the mid 40s to low 50s this morning with mainly clear skies...although a few clouds are out there, especially to our south and east. we will see a few more clouds tracking in today with partly cloudy to partly sunny skies... winds will be southeast at 5 to 15 mph and highs will be in the upper 60s to mid 70s today. it gets even ahead of a system that will bring a chance of storms, along with a cool down for the weekend. i'll have the details in a few minutes. continuing coverage: investigators may never know what happened in the moments before

was tipped off that mark rollins was missing. he was from decorah -- an experienced hunter who had been in the crazy mountains of montana. two dog teams, two ground teams, a horse team and a helicopter crew searched for him. the next day -- his body was found at the bottom of a cliff. rollins was 60 years old. one man has died in a crash on the tracks. it happened in linn county -- near alburnett -- yesterday afternoon. loaded with a skid steer. they say a man from marion was driving the truck -- which drove into the path of a freight train. the truck caught fire -- and the a crash has killed a man in dubuque. police say it happened over the weekend near highway 61 and old davenport road. the train engineer says he doesn't remember what happened. he told investigators the train was running just fine on thursday before it crashed into a terminal in new jersey. one

"he said that when he checked station track. the engineer says he has no memory of the accident. he remembers waking up on the floor of the cab." the n-t-s-b hopes a second data recorder will help. the first one they found was not working. it was supposed to record the train's speed -- and ability to ra murder -- after a first grader shot at school died. jacob hall was hit in his leg in the playground in south carolina last week. the bullet hit an artery. investigators sy the suspect killed his father at home before coming to school -- where he started firing. has forgiven already. he is in heaven smiling down on us and he ask his mom to be able to be strong and forgive just like he would have." two other victims - a teacher

hospital. today, the trial begins -- for a man accused of leaving his son to die in a hot car. ross harris is on trial for murder. he's accused of leaving his young son cooper in the back seat of his s- u-v two years ago in georgia. a teen is in the hospital this morning in critical condition. he was shot by police. officers say first. it happened in st. louis. police were looking for a car taken in a car- jacking. they wanted to talk to a teenager nearby. the 14-year-old took off running. police say he then fired at them. l-a police are investigating after a deadly shooting involving officers. it all started with a car chase. police believe the car was stolen. the driver wouldn't stop. a passenger then got out of the car and ran into the back of a home, his mother says police won't let

they say they moved him already. i want to see if it's him." no officers were hurt. police say they found a weapon at the scene. some arrests are made overnight as people protested the shooting in l-a. they blocked a busy intersection. a candlelight vigil was also held. police want to know what happened before two college students were shot dead in north carolina early sunday morning. they're offering a reward for any information that can solve the case. it happened at a party in greensboro -- at north carolina a and t university. one person is in the hospital -- after being assaulted in iowa city. the victim said a group of people came up to him near the intersection of iowa avenue and dodge street. someone started yelling -- pulled out a knife -- and cut the victim's

troy davis says he has no regrets about what happened over the weekend. the former iowa state football star was arrested. he was charged with public intoxication in ames. it happened about 14 hours after his was honored at the cyclones game against baylor. davis told the des moines register -- he has no regrets -- and said why can't i have fun with the hall of fame induction? davis will go into the college football hall of fame in december. security teams have to chase a football fan during the lions-bears game yesterday. a fan dressed in a gorilla suit ran out onto soldier field during the fourth quarter. the person fell and was then arrested. in the hospital this morning -- a state trooper with serious injuries. police say they were trying to stop a motorcycle, near the main entrance to a parking lot at the

that's when police say he drove against traffic and hit a state trooper. volunteers are still needed to help clean-up after the flood. they're needed in a few counties -- including benton, linn and floyd. one job volunteers are needed for is to pick up sandbags. if you would like to help -- go to the impact of the flooding is far from over. an emergency shelter rema open in cedar rapids. as of midnight sunday -- 23 people were still there. the red cross will open community resource centers to help people affected by flooding. they'll have supplies like clean-up kits, shovels, rakes and trash bags. today -- the benton county emergency management will be open from 11 this morning to 8 tonight. resource centers will also be open in cedar falls and waverly later

cedar rapids -- and also today, the linn county courthouse will reopen. some water did seep into the basement of the courthouse. sump pumps were used to remove we're getting a better sense of the damage caused by recent flooding in wisconsin. more than 14- million dollars in damage to roads, bridges and trails. also -- 48 homes and one business were destroyed -- with most of that happening in vernon county, wisconsin. another big storm brewing this morning -- hurricane matthew. flooding in jamaica. and the bahamas. the storm is packing winds of about 130 miles an hour. decision 2016 coverage. one month -- six days left to campaign. donald trump is hoping for a better week this week. a new report suggests he could've avoided paying taxes for years. tracie potts also tells us how hillary clinton is trying to

areas of fog are out there this morning, but many of us are not seeing any problems. we should end up partly cloudy today but storms are tracking back into the region as early as tomorrow night. right now, stormtrack7 live weather network cameras may catch some of that fog this morning, but should have an otherwise nice sunrise. we are sitting in the mid 40s to low 50s this morning in our viewing area... and across the state. winds are light but will become southeast... they really pick up to the west today and we will see breezy conditions track our way for tomorrow. that is ahead of a system to our west... bringing rain to the plains and will eventually bring areas of storms to our viewing area, mainly tomorrow night into wednesday. we stay mild ahead of the front, but you can see that cooler air behind the system... headed our way. today,
