joining us. a special place for veterans -- nearly six years in the making. tonight -- we're taking a look inside before the grand opening this weekend. this is the elevator inside the newly built waverly area veterans post -- featuring a mural honoring veterans. the floods of 2008 left the amvets forced them to evacuate. soon after the idea came to combine all four area posts. the new waverly area veterans post-combines the american legion post, amvets post, marine corps league, and the vfw. this time around -- the city dodged major damage for the most part. the infatable dam and dry run are being credited with helping stave off much of this year's flood water. kwwl's elizabeth amanieh has a look inside the post -- rising from

the waverly community of veterans is already a tight-knit family. and that was proven after the flooding of 2008 ruined several posts. these veterans came together and after the floods of 2008 ripped through- town-many veterans were left with no place to turn. "the amvets had to get out of there, so they had to go somewhere." this was the spark for the waverly area veterans post-a place to unite all veterans in the area. and after a few months of construction and veterans post now standing tall and ready to serve each and every veteran under one roof. "then they realized that gee why not. and they still have their autonomy, each one has an office." where patriots gather. a place they hope will allow both young and old-active and returning vets to come together. support each other. and most importantly a place to honor them. take a look inside the elevator-a mural with all five branches of the armed forces. as you ride the elevator-the moving mural lighting up a tribute to these brave men-everytime they step inside.

released -- was walking along highway 218 just south of the road's interchange with interstate 80. officers say they aren't sure why the man was walking along the road. he was hit by two cars and a mini-van just before 9 p-m last night, according to a crash report. rescue crews called out for a river search -- for a man who was just out for a swim. iowa city fire crews received a report this morning of a man they ended up finding the man at his home-- the man had been swimming in the river-- they say they have had multiple river searches in the last two weeks--for reports of someone in the water. and multiple times it has been the same man--going for a swim. police in dubuque say a 74-year-old man died in a crash. they say raymond rusch died in a collision early sunday morning when police say he failed to

intersection of highway 61 and olde davenport road. a 17-year-old driving the other car has minor injuries -- while an investigation into the crash is still in progress tonight. a big round-up in fayette county today -- when a semi trailer carrying hundreds of hogs rolls. here's some pictures of the chaos -- the accident happening on highway 187 south of arlington. deputies say the semi was carrying about 200 hogs -- 60 of which died in the crash. semi wasn't hurt in the crash. people on scene say several different agencies and even neighbors came out to help corral the hogs. tonight -- we're continuing our coverage of the floods of 20-16 -- with communities across eastern iowa working to get back to normal after a flood-filled several weeks. that includes cedar rapids -- which had to wait for the cedar in the area had learned their fate. the high point of the water there was second only to 2008

22 feet a week from today in the town. flood water covering much of the town, surrounding homes and businesses. kwwl's taylor bailey in vinton today. taylor? the red cross say vinton experienced a duel hit. a few months ago the town was hit by a tornado--and just last week it was hit by heavy flooding. by the cedar river. "a good number of individuals had either major damage, we have flood victims in the area--looking to the red cross cleaning supplies and resources victims of the flood--like debbie blakely.
