in some eastern iowans -- while others are calling it all an act of public nuisance. good evening everyone, i'm ron steele. and i'm amanda goodman. thanks for joining us. a strange -- and vivid -- craze sweeping the united states has now made its way to eastern iowa. in at least a dozen states -- people have been spotted wearing the night or in wooded areas. police at the state's three major universities have all gotten reports of people dressed as clowns. here's a viewer picture of a clown supposedly taken in waterloo recently. there's been at least six recent clown sightings throughout the city. these were all from last night in waterloo. kwwl's elizabeth amanieh is live in waterloo. she has been covering this bizarre story.

amanda -- you have a lot of people wondering is this some kind of hoax. as you can imagine -- there's a lot of fear. but as far as police are concerned -- they say unless these clowns are committing a crime they can't do much to stop them from simply walking around in costume. "start heading for college and university." "college street and university." "the house that's kitty corner "behind the house." "are several subjects." "undressing they appear to have been wearing clown costumes." it's reports of clowns like this one. "are several subjects." all happening between 10:30 to three in the morning. one of those-here at this mcdonalds on la porte road. teenage girls dressed with clown masks ordering food through this drive through. in cedar falls-two clown sightings one even on the uni campus. "i saw the hair flying, and they were walking at me at a pretty fast pace. i got spooked and i ran." and to her horror- finding a clma "i saw the mask on the ground, and it freaked me out. left it there." there." but not everyone is laughing. "i'm not sure just because they're getting a thrill out of hurting people, and seeing people scared, or what it is, but its just not funny anymore. it needs to stop." and for police the concern is now

going after these clowns. cedar falls police are urging those who do see these clowns to not approach them. we've got you covered, live in waterloo, elizabeth amanieh...kwwl news. university of iowa police have also confirmed two sightings of clowns the past two nights. saying they are taking all reports seriously, and at this time there is no threat to the university campus or its students. police responding to a report of shots fired in dubuque. it happened on west eighth street near the intersection of hill street sometime before three today. witnesses say they heard quite a bit of yelling back and forth before the shots rang out. police say one person was arrested, and property damage and a number of shell casings were found. let's go to storm track seven chief meteorologist mark schnackenberg now -- he's tracking rain and

its way back is cedar falls. this is video from the kwwl drone last week over the cedar river. the north cedar nieghborhood took an especially grim hit by the flood water. kwwl taking a boat tour with emergency crews during the height of the flooding late last month. today -- help is being given to those still struggling with the flooding strik north cedar falls today- offering help to victims. storm track seven's lauren moss stopping by today. ruined flooring, cabinets, doors, and trim.. it's hard for patrick gutknecht to look around his the hard-wood floors dry wall, gone.. ..all destroyed by flood- waters.

the resource center in cedar falls will also be open tomorrow from 11 a-m to 8 p-m. there will also be a resource center open in waverly later this week. cleanup supplies, food and water will be available at the center -- which will be in the waverly civic center. remember that you can always visit our website at kwwl dot com for complete flooding information. one area in cedar rapids that took on water -- still slowly trying to up-close look at flooding in the new-bo area within the czeck village. while much of cedar rapids dodged major damage in the flooding -- parts of new-bo took on several feet of water. today--newbo is dry-- one up and coming buisness--bo mac's-- was impacted by water-- the business though--still in their renovation stage and not yet open. it plans open as a bar and resturant with live music.. they say they're glad they "yeah it could have been worse

"i think i just see people

students in the active minds organization at kirkwood--wanting to remind other students-- they are not alone-- "you know i kind of use this as a chance to kind of come to situation or for people that are struggling in general for me to just reach out to them and say basis." and many college students have felt that struggle. "grouping them together kind of helps people realize everybody struggles everybody is struggling in some way." they're wanting to let their peers know-- it's okay--to talk about another student. in hopes the message will be heard---or seen. and suicide is a leading cause of death among college students-- students calling it preventable--- saying it's okay to talk about mental health.
