we've got you covered. this is the news at ten." good evening everyone, i'm ron steele. and i'm amanda goodman. thanks for joining us. an area man is in custody tonight in connection to the death of his girlfriend -- just as he was trying to leave the state. 48-year-old jimmy mcdaniel arrested by police inside a hotel in prairie du chien, wisconsin -- as he waited for a ride to a nearby airport. live now at the telegraph herald newsroom in dubuque with more. shirley. i'm just getting back from prarie du chien. authorities not releasing much information about this homicide. this man -- 48-year-old jimmy mcdaniel is under arrest in bridgeport township. that's just outside prarie du chien, wisconsin. they were called to a home here on velvet lane...after midnight on wednesday. when they got there...officers say they found the body of 55-year-old linda kline. she was on the ground

boyfriend, mcdaniel was at the home...her sister was also inside. after an autopsy -- doctors ruled kline's death a homicide. "and it seems mcdaniel tried to leave wisconsin the following day. police arrested him in the lobby of an area hotel. they say he was planning on catching a flight to georgia." mcdaniel was waiting for a ride to take him to la crosse airport. but he didn't get away -- he's now at the crawford county jail. and we should know more information about this incident soon. authorities say they plan of releasing more details next week. we've got you covered live from the telegraph herlad newsroom in dubuque -- shirley descorbeth -- kwwl news. mcdaniel is awaiting his bond

beach, florida, now back to you. as the storm rolls up the east coast -- it has left enormous damage in its wake in the caribbean. the death toll in haiti following hurricane matthew -- now more than 800. escaping that count -- the many children housed in orphanages funded n kwwl's jessica hartman speaking with the iowa non- profit about the destruction left in the wake of matthew. jessica? go-serv global -- started by iowa farmers in 2010 is thankful their children are safe -- but now the hundreds of orphans and staff are without food and clean water. arial views show the devistation left behind by go-serv-global has built orphanages, schools, clinics, and homes in a small south western community. the area suffered a direct hit from matthew.

20-year-old nathan twedt's body was pulled from the iowa river in iowa city last month. he was a student at u-n-i. investigators say alcohol did play a factor -- and the man was last seen inside the university of iowa rec center. witnesses say he appeared to be very drunk and confused -- and went into a restricted area. hes surveillance video running towards the exit -- before falling into the river about ten minutes later. the drowning has been ruled accidental. a wild police chase with a suspected thief ends with a bang. check it out -- this happening in dallas. the chase started with a police chopper following the suspect in medians and plowing right through traffic signs -- eventually silogn control and crashing into a roadside fence. officers surrounded the car with

with an arrest. a two-day standoff finally comes to an end today. the stalemate taking place at a motel in alabama -- u-s marshals there say it all began yesterday morning when they tried to take a suspect in on an arrest warrant. when officers identified themselves -- a shot was fired through the door. shots were also fired overnight during the standoff. a conclusion came today -- when the suspect and another woman inside thro and taken to the hospital. police aren't sure if the woman was in the room willingly with the suspect. the ncaa takes another step in its opposition of north carolina's so-called bathroom bill today. the association announcing a replacement location for the first and second rounds of the ncaa men's basketball tournament -- which greensboro, north carolina was originally scheduled to host. the games will now be held in greenville, south carolina on march 17th and 19th.

said they would relocate seven championship events from north carolina in response to a state law that requires transgender people to use only the bathroom that corresponds to their gender at birth. the law also prevents cities from instating laws that prohibit anti- lgbt discrimination. other championship events were moved to boston, california, virginia, georgia, tennessee and texas today. coming up next ---the iowa hawkeyes
