was not under a tropical cyclone watch or warning due to hurricane matthew. as the storm rolls up the east coast -- it has left enormous more than 800. escaping that count -- the many children housed in orphanages funded by an iowa non- profit. kwwl's jessica hartman reports.. arial views show the devistation left behind by hurricaine matthew just days ago. the iowa non-profit go-serv-global has built orphanages, schools, clinics, and homes i western community. the area suffered a direct hit from matthew. "a lot of destruction. the community surrounding our complex, only about 10% of the homes is all that survived. everything else is gone. we have a number of buildings that are damaged."

clinic staff are still struggling with limited resources. "the biggest issue right now is getting food to them. i don't know when they last had something to eat." the iowa farmers who co-founded the organizations will be heading down this weekend with prepared meals from a local church. unable to get in any sooner -- it was hard to be played with these kids. we know these kids. it is like having your own kids here. if you weren't able to feed your own kids, imagine how that would feel. that is the feeling we have." go-serv-global was founded by iowa farmers after the 2010 earthquake in haiti the organization now has communities in four countries and helps in disaster relief here in the u-s.

residents at a special needs center. police say the man worked at opportunities unlimited- helping patients with brain injuries. that's where investigators say he abused two residents multiple times.. he's being charged with two counts of third degree sexual abuse. police arrest a man accused of shooting at homes and people with a paintball gun. 26-year-old kenneth herring, of cedar rapids, is charged with criminal mischief. police say he shot at multiple apartment complex in the cedar rapids area. one woman also reported being hit in the eye. he was found near metro high school and taken into custody. a man accused of murdering his girlfriend is arrested--just before heading to the airport to fly down south. 48-year-old jimmy mcdaniel taken into custody at a hotel in prairie du chien, wisconsin. officers were called to a home just after midnight on wednesday. this is in bridgeport township. when they arrived -- they found

home. according to police -- her boyfriend jimmy mcdaniel and her sister were both there. after an autopsy -- kline's death was ruled a homicide. mcdaniel is currently being hed at the crawford county jail. all as the investigation is ongoing. if the irs is calling you-then it's a scam. and now those scammers are getting busted. police say these scammers have been operating out of a total of nine call centers. making up to 1 hundred 50 thousand dollars a day. "the irs had a warrant out for so i asked him what county the california is a state and not a county. and they hung up." and those red flags are ones that have saved millions from these scammers. police stressing that you should never give out any personal information over the phone. a mass will be held today for a world war two vet who will finally be

all began yesterday morning when they tried to take a suspect in on an arrest warrant. when officers identified themselves -- a shot was fired through the door. shots were also fired overnight during the standoff. it ended when the suspect and another woman inside the room were both shot and taken to the hospital. demonstrators gather in san francisco this weekend demanding justice for two men- who were shot by police officers in the last ten months. the mother of mario woods called charge the police officers involved. an autopsy report showed woods was shot 21 times. meanwhile, protests continue along the dakota access pipeline. it would run through multiple states including iowa. in the past, demonstrators have protested at construction sites. this demonstration -- a bit different --- with authorities ready and waiting to stop people before they could get on the work site...
