areas of fog this morning, but most areas are not reporting any problems. temperatures are holding in the mid to upper 50s this morning and should warm up nicely today with southerly winds helping out... they are 5 to 15 mph today but will end up 10-20 gusting higher. clouds will track out for this morning and leave us mostly sunny today, but there is another system to our west that brings a change for a few days. highs today will be very mild in the 70s with gusty south winds. that changes tomorrow, though, with northwest have more on that forecast in a few minutes. four weeks from today america heads to the polls. this presidential race is more polarized than ever. tracie potts is in washington this

"special prosecutor, here we come, right?" donald trump, defiant as ever, promising more to come "if they wanna release more tapes, saying inappropriate things we'll continue to talk about bill and hillary clinton doing inappropriate things." it's caused a big rift in the republican party. the party itself is sticking by him, but the top republicans on capitol hill are not. house speaker paul ryan says he won't defend trump - won't campaign for him - but won't pull his endorsement either. "paul ryan is trying to make the best of a very difficult situation." so is hillary clinton. "he is an equal opportunity insulter if there ever was one." "this election is our chance to show who we are - we are better than that." new poll numbers show clinton has pulled 11 points ahead nationally since the video tape was released

-- representative ken rizer and senator jack whitver -- pulled their support over the weekend but most other state party leaders have not. 28 days from the election -- and iowa is once again becoming a focal point for the campaigns. donald trump's running mate is in newton today. mike pence will speak at a rally at the des moines area community college. the doors open at one. the vice presidential nominee is expected to speak at three. tomorrow -- former president bill clinton will be in eastern iowa. what's being called an early voting event. it's scheduled to start at six-45 at the national cattle congress -- with doors opening an hour before that. the former president will also be in linn county on thursday afternoon. people in florida are being given an extra day to register to vote. a federal judge extended today's voter registration deadline until tomorrow -- because of hurricane matthew. the judge's order comes after the

scott said people had enough time. states are still reeling this morning because of the storm. matthew killed at least 30 people across five states. in florida -- 12 people died -- nine because of carbon monoxide poisoning -- or other problems caused by the power being knocked out. this morning in georgia -- more than 100-thousand people are still without power. flooding is still a big problem in south carolina. more evacuations there have been called for. crews are coming from are trapped in their homes. they're using boats and trucks to get through the high water. this morning -- we're starting to see some of the damage left behind by hurricane matthew. thousands are still out of their homes. the damage stretches for miles. "you go into a room and there's nothing. you got heavy furniture and it's all in pieces room." president obama is freeing up federal money to help those

the u-s military is also sending more support to haiti. almost a week after the hurricane hit haiti, the people there are struggling to get food, medicine and water. the u-s-s iwo jima, was deployed from virginia on saturday and is expected to get to haiti later this week. one man is dead after a police shooting shut down traffic on a busy interstate. it happened late last night in southern california. california highway patrol says the the man was their officers. people driving on the road say they saw someone walking in traffic before the shooting. no word yet from officers about why shots were fired. flowers, pictures and balloons are being left on the steps of a police department -- honoring two officers who were shot and killed over the weekend. prosecutors say capital murder charges are expected against the suspect in palm springs, california. he's accused of shooting and killing two officers during a

team. one of those who died in the line of duty -- had been with the department for 35 years and was planning to retire in december. an iowa school is remembering two officers killed earlier this year. susan farrell and carlos puente- moreales were two of four people killed in a crash in april. they worked for the des moines police department. at a nearby school -- a landscaping project more than 6 months in the making is starting honor the officers. that the city is going to be have to deal with. those kids are our future.' the trees will also help students deal with emotional losses in their own lives. vermont police say an arrest warrant is out for a man accused killing five people. the suspect is still in the hospital in critical condition.

way on sunday morning and crashed into a car -- killing occurred on interstate 89 as an accident." after the crash, the man allegedly stole a police cruiser and drove it the wrong way again -- hitting at least seven other cars. the prosecutor says the suspect has a lengthy criminal history -- and is involved in a domestic violence case with his ex- girlfriend -- set to go before a jury next month. fired... now faces a more serious charge. last week in dubuque...shots were fired in the downtown area...on west eight street. steven burrel of chicago was charged with reckless use of a firearm. that charge has been upgraded to attempted murder. "it's just crazy that it happened right here, next to my business, kinda worried about all my clients now...who's all gonna come back and get their haircut." if burrell is convicted -- he

possible. today -- a grant county deputy will be in court. he's charged in a child abuse case. vance vankirk has been on administrative leave. a criminal complaint says vankirk is accused of using a belt to spank one of his kids. that child then allegedly told their school -- vankirk said not to talk about what had happened. the complaint says vankirk admitted spanking the child and that he did it because he thought the child had cut anothed' learned that never happened. today, the u-s supreme court dials up a case affecting the world's top two smartphone makers. justices will hear arguments over the amount samsung should pay apple for copying the iphone's distinct look. samsung paid apple more than 540-million dollars last year. but samsung is now arguing is shouldn't have to pay all of that.

phones worldwide. the consumer product safety commission has reported at least 92 cases in the u-s in which the phone's battery caught fire or even exploded. "so consumer reports thinks that you should take advantage of the fact that carriers are willing to replace these phones with different phones or refund your money. just take the phone in and stop using it." last month, samsung issued a global recall. it blamed a manufacturing error in thtt investigators are now studying a different defect. this 14-year-old student is not your average teenager. he's a sophomore at a kansas high school and a sophomore at harvard. if he stays on track... he'll graduate from college a week "i was thinking about the other day how surreal that actual day will be, but it'll be a fun experience." he'll be 17 when he graduates

game four is tonight. in the american league -- the end of an era for baseball fans in boston. david ortiz played his final game as the red sox were eliminated. cleveland swept boston in three games in their division series. once the game was over -- the crowd called for big papi to make a curtain call. he did. cleveland now plays toronto for the right to go to the world series. history is made on the football field -- by a young lady. kendall breland became the first female in thest in a varsity game. it happened in the first quarter of a game friday night. trying to make history ever since i came down here 3 years ago. in the history of mississippi high school football, girls have kicked field goals and extra points. but before friday night, there was no record of a female scoring a touchdown. her team won the game 61-14.
