behind the front than yesterday at this time. winds are turning to the northwest and picking up speed... and will be gusty all day. clouds and a few showers track through today, too, especially through the middle of the day.... before clearing out by this evening. we could see a few showers today but you will mainly notice falling temps throughout the day. the winds die down tonight and the skies will be clear... leading to the coldest temps of the season so far. i'll have that frosty forecast for you in a few minutes.

month from the decision day. people are lining up to vote early. so far, about 38- hundred people have cast their ballots in black hawk county. tracie potts is in washington this morning with the latest on the presidential race -- which includes new details about leaked clinton campaign emails. "we have to investigate hillary clinton." this is donald trump - as he puts it - shackles off! trump tells fox news' bill house speaker paul ryan: "i don't want his support; i don't care about his support. what i want to do is i want to win for the people." to win trump needs florida. he's making two more stops there today. clinton leads florida by just a few points. "your vote really, really, really counts, a lot. you can consider me as an exhibit a of that proof." clinton's out west today after campaigning in florida with al

"we cannot risk putting a climate denier in the white house at all - that is absolutely unacceptable." leaked emails from clinton campaign show an aide checked with the justice department about lawsuits over her emails. "hillary clinton is one disclosure away from potentially having this race flip-flop once again." so she's sending top democrats to swing states to talk about "i too believe in forgiveness and redemption, but doesn't mean i'm gonna elect the person president!" (cheers) the white house is denying anything wrong with the clinton campaign's contact with the justice department investigating her emails. i'm tracie potts in washington, now back to you. donald trump's running mate says he's disappointed in the republicans who say they'll no longer support trump.

former president bill clinton is holding an early voting event in waterloo. he's set to speak at 6:45 tonight at the cattle congress --doors open at 5:45. we'll have coverage right here on kwwl and kwwl dot com. in a kwwl follow-up this morning: the search for a man wanted in connection to a stabbing at the iowa state fair. the man wanted is craig hunt. he's considered armed and dangerous. hunt is accused of stabbing darquan jones on the last night of the fair in august. jones was treated and later released from the hospital. hunt is charged with attempted murder, and is also possibly connected to several shootings in the des moines area. today, charges could be filed against the man accused of murdering two police officers. they were investigating a domestic case in palm springs, california the other night when they were shot and killed. the suspect was then arrested after a 12-hour standoff. today, he could be charged with first degree murder. later today, the visitation for

st. louis. officer blake snyder was shot and killed in the line of duty last week. the suspect is 18 years old. police say he started firing at snyder right as the officer showed up to look into a disturbance call. a baby has died after being left in a hot car. it happened in fresno, california. investigators say the child's grandmother was watching him. they don't know why she left him inside the car. when the child was found. only god knows and she didn't mean for this to happen and that police are questioning the boy's grandmother who needed medical attention herself because she was so distraught over what happened. the picture doesn't gives us a great look at the suspect, but waterloo police are hoping someone knows something -- and steps

sunday. a man came in with a gun. here's a look at the suspect --you can only see his eyes. the store's surveillance camera shows the man waving around a gun in front of a young woman behind the cash register. she screamed and the owner came running out but instead in money at him. there were other people inside the store at the time b right now, there's a new city ordinance on the table that would require businesses to have a camera near the door. that's something that could have been very helpful in this case. if the waterloo city council approves it-- some businesses like restaurants, banks and hotels would have to buy cameras..and if businesses already have them ... updates and inspections would be mandatory. road construction signs don't have the word patience on them

as a big project begins in eastern iowa. groundbreaking for a new phase of the southwest arterial along highway 52 is happening in dubuque. when the project's finished - the four-lane, divided highway will give people another option to drive through the southwest side of the city. the project will have a big impact. people living on cousins road used to be able to drive directly to highway 20. now they have to take a longer businesses. "construction going on, we're kinda at the dead end of a road right now, so it's just a little can get around that, long term excellent spot." the work should be done by 20-19. another key project -- this one focusing on flood prevention. it's the groundbreaking for a permanent flood control levee in cedar rapids. it will help protect the newbo district. the 14 million dollar project includes a detention basin and a pump station. everything is set to be finished

the flooding in his state could get worse as the week goes on. more than two- thousand people have been rescued so far since hurricane matthew hit over the at least 14 people have died in north carolina alone because of the storm. a family of seven forced out of their home in south carolina because of the hurricane -- will go home as a family misty.. who was pregnant.. began having contractions over the "the hospital has been fantastic. the university that took us in has been phenomenal and we are so grateful. we have a deep faith in god and we feel the lord has taken care of us." both mom and baby are doing fine. this morning, a four-year-old girl is back with her family after a

above normal... but probably warmer than the rest of the day will be. it is cooler behind... a good 10-15 degrees cooler than this time yesterday morning.. and the winds are stronger... already 15-20 mph and gusting higher. the front has some rain with it, but it will be fairly light with most getting a few hundredths... it will be the temperatures you notice... they range from the 20s to the 60s over the midwest.... the 20s and 30s where the high pressure is centered... and heading our way. we have seen our highs for day and will continue to see breezy conditions.. a few showers will track through, too, mainly through midday. clear and cold tonight with light winds and lows dropping into the low to mid 30s... a freeze warning coats most of the viewing area with frost advisories to the south.... but we are running behind... we should have had our first frost days or even weeks ago in the viewing area!

today might not be a great day to help farmers play catch-up. they're a little behind getting the corn and soybeans out of the fields because of all the rain we've had. here's a look at the flooding a few weeks ago in forest city. robert hansen has 125 acres of beans near fairbank 60 acres were destroyed by the flooding --and he says 37 acrs "i farmed for about 50 years and it's the first time i know will get up, and it will get into the crops and you'll lose some, but to have it happen just a week before the harvest is just unimaginable." statewide -- 19 percent of the corn has been harvested. that's about three days behind last year's pace.
