(3 seconds) and... kids from all over getting a real-life feel of trying to escape a house fire at an annual fire department open house ""you're watching kwwl, we've got you covered. this is the news at ten." good evening everyone, i'm ron steele. and i'm amanda goodman. thanks for joining us. the water is long gone --- but the damage it caused still has homeless. here is a look at the flooding near shell rock last month when the shell rock river crested at record levels. kwwl's jessica hartman talking with a family who's basement wall collapsed against the weight of the flood water. she joins us live in waterloo, jessica? just two weeks after buying their first home --- one shell rock family found themselves in a homeowner's nightmare. a gaping hole in this home -- left behind by flood

each of the past two years, this is a garden that has produced more than two thousand pounds of food. and with more than one hundred left to harvest this year, there's still some work to do. most days, you'll find ashley neises here--at the dubuque rescue mission garden--planting, cutting, doing whatever it takes to turn out lots of produce. (ashley neises, garden manager) "all the food grown here goes up to our free meal largest free meal programs in the community. we serve about 120 free meals a day." but now with colder temperatures creeping in, her work shifts a bit, as she starts to cover many of the plants in a cloth that will keep them alive through frost conditions. because that food goes to such a great cause, it's

we were getting lots and lots of cucumbers and tomatoes and lettuce and all sorts of stuff donated, and that pretty much comes to a screeching halt when the days get shorter and the season gets cooler. in order to get to provide fresh produce, concern for some residents of the garden, though. there, as you heard kyle say should be fine for at least a few days. a popular market reopening today for the first time since heavy flooding. here's a look at kwwl drone video from the newbo area in cedar rapids last month after the cedar river crested. it was one of the hardest hit areas in the city. the newbo city market is home to 24 unique vendors, who were all happy to be back today. all businesses did have to go through inspections before being allowed to reopen. "we feel fortunate there wasn't a flood. potentially we were looking at not being here for a glad to be back." some vendors were able to keep business going through catering services, while others lost a lot of their products. continuing coverage -- parents are asking for change at an

a student is hit by a car. the eight-year- old was riding her bicycle on idaho street near highland elementary school in waterloo on tuesday, when she was hit. the driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian. the girl was taken to the hospital but is expected to be ok. but her mother is now trying to "i scare for my kids everyday. you know, even them not walking by themselves. me walking wem of parents that their kids have to walk by themselves. i think we need precautions in our area saying slow down." she has about 40 signatures so far --and is working to get more before

it happened on 200th avenue near generac drive, south of maquoketa --that's in jackson county, here's a picture of the scene from our coverage partners at the telegraph herald. there were children on the bus at the time, but none of them were hurt. one person in the other car was taken to the hospital --their condition is not known. a train collides with an s-u-v -- injuring one woman. 41-year-old kimberly bradfield, of janesville, was driving on 260th she hit a canadian national railway train. you can see bradfield's suv heavily damaged here. she was taken to the university of iowa hospitals and clinics, but is expected to be ok. a local man injured in a work- related accident has now died. 43-year-old marcus essex, of waterloo, was hit in the head by a chain while loading a trash bin last

a co-worker reportedly heard a loud sound and found essex unconscious on the ground. he died in cedar rapids on tuesday. an iowa man accused of sexually abusing a woman in a car is now facing charges. 21-year-old jesse moser, of garber, charged with third degree sexual abuse. deputies say moser was in a parked car with a woman in coleburg last month. this" --and trying to get away. if found guilty, moser could face up to ten years in prison. new at ten -- kids lining up to go inside a trailer filled with smoke and flames -- but it's not as dangerous as it sounds. it's all part of the eighth annual evansdale fire department open house. plenty of fun, games, and food for everyone, but also a chance to learn. an obstacle course teaches kids to stay low when escaping a fire.

jersey, making a court appearance today. ahmad rahimi pleading not guilty to attempted murder charges via video from his hospital bed. police say he set off a pipe bomb and many more were found at a transit station. more than 30 people were hurt in the two bombings last month. rahimi was captured after a police shootout a couple days

overpass and dangles over the bridge. check out the scene here in texas. you can see the trailer of that truck just hanging over the bridge. it's believed the hydraulic system went out --causing the crash. amazingly, the driver was not injured. a massive fire breaks out at a family's home. take a look at the flames here at the two-story home in delaware. it took about two hours for firefighters to finally put it out. the home is a total loss --but do this --but a group of people save hundreds of snakes on the roadway. you can see them here tossing the snakes into bags down in florida. many of them, however, were still run over by cars. the snakes aren't poisonous but still did bite. despite that, the group continued to rescue them. lucille vautier / snake rescuer: "they're animals and they deserved to be saved and its sad that they are all being killed on the road at no fault of their own they are just trying to get

good evening, i'm rick coleman. the chicago cubs are relaxing in the windy city waiting on their opponent for game one of the n-l-c-s. tonight the washington nationals and los angles dodgers battle in a decisive game five of the n- l-d-s. bottom of the second --- no score--the nats with runners on first and second, washington's danny espinosa hits a sharp liner to right------ daniel murphy is going to come home from second 1-0 nationals. but the dodgers scored four in the seventh--- and lead this game 4-3 college basketball---iowa state is picked 4th in the big 12. defending champion kansas is picked to win it again, west virginia is second and texas third ahead of iowa

meet--tonight it was the mississippi divisional cross country meet at gates park golf course in waterloo. iowa city west has the top ranked team in the 4-a led by the state's top distance runner gabby skopec. and tonight it was gabby skopec....winning the 3-mile i thought the course was pretty course-i think i ran pretty well..yeah i really wanted to push it from the one mile mark on..just push really hard from the middle part of the race. and iowa city west also won the team title. the boys race was much more competive--- very early the runners ran in a tight pack... but as the race progressed-- the top runners from iowa city west and linn-mar began to seperate
