deputy is arrested for carrying weapons. officers were called to a san marnan drive gas station for an assault around 3-30 this morning. witnesses told police -- erik mcferran was drunk and tried to assault people. according to a criminal complaint -- mcferran had a loaded handgun on his person and later blew a point one six nine blood alcohol concentration. erik mcferran had a weapon permit to carry -- but was void because he intoxicated. "blow up the d-h- s." one woman is being charged with making a threat of terrorism. sarrina bancroft of iowa city made threats in person and over the phone. she also threatened to shoot inside the department of human services. authorities say she allegedly made threats because she was upset about a d-h-s case involving her.

kim bradfield -- from janesville -- is expected to be ok. it could've been much worse. she was on 260th street in bremer county -- when there was a collision on the tracks. she was taken to the university of iowa hospitals and clinics, but again -- we're hearing she's expected to be ok. a man acquitted of murder earlier this year has been sentenced for something else. in august -- perquondis holmes was found not guilty in a shooting that happened 3 years ago. police say after the shooting happened -- he took off holmes entered an alford plea for avoiding an arrest. it's hard to tell how much time he'll serve for this conviction. he's been given credit for the nearly 3 years he spent in jail waiting for the trial. a crash involving a school bus leaves one person injured. it happened south of maquoketa in jackson county. here's a picture of the scene from our coverage partners at the telegraph herald. there were children on the bus at the time -- none of them were hurt. one person in the other car was taken to the hospital.

down near a school . an eight-year-old was riding her bike on idaho street near highland elementary in waterloo this week, when she was hit. the driver was cited for not yielding. the girl was taken to the hospital -- and is expected to be ok. her mother is now area. "i'm scared for my kids everyday. you know, even them of parents that their kids have to walk by themselves. i think we need precautions in our area saying slow down." she has about 40 signatures so far --and is working to get more before bringing it to the city council. a man is one of two people in the hospital after a crash. it happened yesterday in muscatine county. the state patrol says eric osborn of cedar rapids did not yield and hit another car. a passenger in the other car -- from bettendorf -- was also

a chase after two suspects puts an elementary school on lock down. it happened near an elementary school in sioux city. iowa sheriff's deputies were pulling a car over for a traffic stop, but the car took off. deputies chased after the car -- and it turned into them running after the suspects. police caught one of them -- but the other is still on the run. a new interchange is set to open today after years of planning and work. the c-57 interchange over 218 is open. we first started hearing about the wapsi several years ago after many serious crashes. opening the overpass means three gravel roads -- including gresham road -- will be shut down. many people are very happy about the new interchange... but some are frustrated. roger's market has been on gresham road for more than 20 years... they've been talking about

where the stand sits right now-- will be barricaded after they open the new overpass. making access from highway 218 impossible. you have to hear this story: an eastern iowan deputy helped deliever and save a baby on the side of highway one. the johnson county sheriff's department posted the story of deputy shawn swartzendruber. he was - but when it came the umbilical cord was wrapped around it's neck. the deputy stayed calm and was able to free the baby. if you turtle trap -- you may be seeing some new restrictions soon. the department of natural resources commission is pushing new restirctions that would limit trappers to catch six or less turtles in one day. bar trapping turtles would only be allowed during a six-week period in the spring. if fully passed - expect to see

when their bus caught fire. the government says 21 people were on the bus when it smashed into a guardrail and caught fire. survivors were able to get out by breaking the windows. authorities suspect it started after a blown tire caused the bus to hit the guardrail. a confrontation ended with an officer-involved shooting. police in houston say an off duty officer was walking his dog yesterday... when another dog attacked his animal. the officer went home, then came back to the officer was allegedly on the phone with a dispatcher when the dog's owner started punching him. that is when the officer shot the man multiple times. he was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition. the officer suffered minor injuries. no word if any charges will be filed in the case. another officer- involved shooting in the midwest sparks an investigation. police in indiana, say an officer responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle around midnight. when he arrived, the driver

martin shkreli was arrested last year on allegations of securities fraud. he's accused of looting a company of 11-million dollars to pay off investors he was suspected of defrauding in a hedge fund he ran. continuing coverage: some farmers around the dakota access pipeline site are arming themselves to protect their property. these farmers in north dakota are worried about violence breaking out during protests of the pipeline -- which would run through parts of iowa. a farmer says he got into an they drove through his field. he's now erring on the side of couple of deputies this morning, they said by all means carry. protect yourselves, if there's an altercation call them, and if it escalates to a point where he says officers were not there the day he encountered protesters -- so he just wants to make sure he's safe.
