sarah szabo were found dead. they had been dating-- but recently separated. kwwl's amanda gilbert has been following this story all morning long -- she joins us live in freeport. a scary night here in freeport. behind me you can see duct tape is still up sorrounding these two homes in freeport. around 8 this morning. i spoke with several neighbors who say they barely slept. they were scared and had never seen anything like this before. one neighbor tells me she recently moved here after her home flooded three times this year. she remembers the moments last night before she heard gunshots...

go on riverside drive was robbed around 3:20 this morning. the clerk says a man with a gun came in and took money. nine minutes later -- police got a report of an armed robbery at the kum and go on gilbert street. two people allegedly robbed the place, one matching the description of the suspect in the first robbery. crime stoppers is offering a reward for information leading new at noon -- a woman is out of her home following a fire. waterloo firefighters responded to around 4:30 this morning. smoke was coming out of a window. the home is a duplex -- firefighters believe one unit has around 10-thousand dollars worth of damage. the woman who lives there isn't able to stay there. the red cross is helping her out. the cause of the fire is under investigation. firefighters also responding to a home southwest of clarksville this morning. butler county emergency management says the owner got out ok -- but the fire had too big

reach an all-time high -- and iowa's rate is the highest in the country. a new report shows america's high school graduation rate now tops 83- percent. that's a new record high. iowa's rate is even higher, just shy of 91 percent. our state is the only one in the country where graduation rates were above 90- percent last year. one-third of teenagers are driving while drowsy .... that's according to a new study 32-percent of surveyed teens say they 'sometimes' struggle to stay awake while driving ... and almost one in ten have actually dozed off behind the wheel. driving while you're tired can affect you a lot, and your reaction time ... which can be even more dangerous when a driver is inexperienced. don't be a clown -- just slow down. this is the message showing up on highway boards across the state of iowa today. the iowa d-o-t saying aggressive driving is responsible for about half of the crashes across

with that is so fitting for this time of year. we start off by combining some apple cider or apple juice with a splash of apple cider vinegar and a bit of garlic in a baking dish. to that we add 4 pork chops and let them boneless, that's up to you. after they marinate, we season 'em with some salt and pepper and saut? 'em in a hot skillet until they're cooked through. while they're cooking, we saut? a chopped apple with a bit of butter and when it's tender we add in some of the marinade. once this boils, we thicken it up with a bit of the marinade that we mixed with some flour and cinnamon and it's ready to serve. what makes this so nice

message gets lost during budget fights. that's what one state lawmaker is saying about flood protection in iowa. this is video from our kwwl drone showing some of the buss last month. iowa cities -- including cedar rapids -- have proposed one- point-four billion dollars worth of flood protection plans. but the state hasn't pushed for other measures, like wetlands -- and has little idea of how to pay for all the protection plans. following hurricane matthew -- animal shelters in the south are getting overcrowded. dogs are being sent to shelters with more room in states across the country. some owners are leaving their pets at shelters temporarily until

hurt after a standoff turns violent. a man allegedly punched multiple officers and deputies, then locked himself in a patrol car where he remained in a standoff with officers for more than two hours. when he got out of the car -- they saw a knife -- and tased him. family members say the suspect may have a mental health condition and was likely on p-c-p when the incident happened. police shoot and kill a woman who allegedly had a gun. officers in texas say the woman came towards them with the weapon and me." that's when police say they ordered her to drop the weapon, but she moved toward them and the officers shot her. the officers involved are on leave this morning. back here in iowa -- two people and two dogs are found dead in a waterloo home. neighbors say the home on east shaulis road flooded last month. the home's been without power ever sinceand nobody's been living there. neighbors say they were told the home had been broken into recently --that's when two people volunteered to stay in
