have more on that in a few minutes. a big story we are following very closely this morning: a seven-year-old in the hospital with life-threatening injuries -- after being hit by a pickup. it happened last night in waterloo -- on west 11th street -- near the south street intersection. the boy's mother told police her son was going to play at a friend's house across the street. he didn't look both ways and got hit by that truck. you can see damage to the wheel. the head-light shattered. waterloo police say the young boy suffered severe head trauma. police say the driver got out of the truck after it happened and tried helping the boy. the child was airlifted to the university of iowa hospitals and clinics. he's in critical condition. stay with kwwl and kwwl dot com for any updates. cedar falls police say they know what a suspect posted on his facebook page -- and say that's part of an attemped

with two counts of attempted murder. police say he stabbed jeff miller and denice bennett. both suffered serious injuries. it happened at the university avenue studios in cedar falls on monday. police went to check on jacobsen before the stabbings after someone called saying he was threatening to take his own life. officers say -- when they showed up -- jacobsen told them he was "i'm leaving november the 4th...i have to. i told james. they could kill any of us..for no reason at all. earlier this year, jacobsen allegedly posted several facebook messages mentioning killing and mental illness. in one of those -- saying quote --"i'm craving murder." again this post is from may- but still

police say they're looking into. this morning, investigators are trying to figure out what caused a leak that killed a farmer. phil hennig went to check out a leak of anhydrous ammonia along the nebraska-iowa border. he was then overcome by the fumes and died. he was 59. a few dozens homes were then evacuated because of the chemical leak. a three-hour standoff ends with shots being fired. police in tulsa, oklahoma were called after a man broke into a home and took a two- year-old hostage. they say the man held a gun to the child's head from a balcony and made threats to police. a sniper then shot him -- killing the suspect. the child was not hurt. this morning, police are trying to piece together what happened before a man was shot and killed by an officer in michigan. police were told someone was holding a man at gunpoint. but

as they were leaving -- though -- a man started shooting at them from the street. police shot back -- hitting and killing the man. more than 100 firefighters are dealing with a fast-moving fire this morning. the fire -- outside of l-a -- is moving closer to a natural gas facility and a neighborhood. crews are fighting the fire from the ground and the air -- and they're dealing with a lot right now. the fire is burning downhill -- with winds topping 30 miles an hour. te -- who's out getting groceries when her world is almost taken from her. she was at a houston grocery store with her daughter. surveillance video shows a man coming up to them. he tries to pick up the girl out of the cart -- but her foot gets caught. that's when mom realizes it and the man walks away. "i wanted people to be aware

child and it may happen to someone else. i definitely want him to get caught." the man apparently did not have any groceries and did not appear to be shopping. police are investigating it as an attempted kidnapping. this morning, a teacher is no longer on the job -- after pulling a student by the hair. video shows the teacher in mississippi holding down the girl. she's then seen grabbing the girl's gym floor. she was fired and the superintendent is now on administrative leave. a routine trip to fill up -- turns into a criminal case. a woman pulls up in an s-u-v and gets out to go to the pump. then another car rolls up. the driver gets out -- sneaks over to the s-u-v, opens the door and grabs her purse.

this happened in florida. the woman says she had about 600 dollars in cash in her purse. tonight is the last debate between hillary clinton and donald trump. this morning, we're learning that trump wants term limits for members of congress. six years max for those in the house. 12 for senators. tracie potts is in las vegas this morning where trump and clinton go head to head for the final time before election day.
