now on today in iowa -- the battle over a toss up state. the campaigns are making iowa a focus -- less than a week before the presidential election. plus -- social media makes it easier to catch a thief... after live. and it's down to this. a winner-take-all game seven in the world series. the biggest, most nerve-wracking day ahead for so many cub fans in eastern iowa. i'm jerry gallagher. let's check on your weather now with storm track 7 meteorologist eileen loan.

eileen on camera from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team. see the screen for your complete weather information. here is additional forecast information from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team: scattered shower and a few thunderstorms are tracking along a stalled front. it is all rain with low 60s across the kwwl viewing area this morning. northeasterly winds are calm to around 15 mph but will be fairly light for the next couple of days. you have a 50/50 shot of seeing some of these showers and storms today, with the best chance along the front. we dry out by tomorrow... i'll let you know if the warmer temperatures will continue, as well, in a few minutes. we are following breaking news

in what's being called an ambush-style attack. this is a live picture of i-235 in des moines. north of i-235 -- both highway six and highway 28 are blocked right now. we believe that could be connected to the shooting investigations. this is what we know. who -- an n-b-c affiliate in des moines -- says an urbandale officer is dead. the station is also reporting a des moines officer was shot and killed. few details havee there could be a news conference shortly. we'll continue to stay on top of decision 2016 coverage: iowa starts and helps finish the race for the white house. nine months and a day after the iowa caucuses -- the campaigns are still focusing on iowa. it's a big battleground state. dana bash shows us what's at stake in the hawkeye state -- six days before the election.

republicans are working to turn iowa red. "we are ready for change and mr. trump brings that change." eric branstad, the son of iowa's longtime g-o-p governor, runs trump's operation here and says his appeal reaches beyond the g-o-p base. "i have gone to republican rallies my entire life. we are seeing new voters like we've never seen before." early voting has been underway for over a month. democrats usually win the early vote. this year, iowa g-o-p "it's at an all-time high." so far republicans are doing better than in 2012, but still lagging with 33-point-nine percent of the early vote compared to 43- point-two percent from democrats. to push the early vote, both candidates recently came to cedar rapids, iowa, just hours apart. "she is the candidate of yesterday." "we have come too far to let donald trump take us back." the challenge for

the end for that campaign, and her 2016 win against bernie sanders was a struggle. iowa democrats argue they insist their get out the vote operation is superior. "it is a toss up state. and it is gonna come down to that state, early voting this year is higher than it was at the same time where about seven- thousand more voters turned out in 2012 a week ahead

clinton is back in waterloo. he was also in town in october campaigning for his wife. today's event is at the waterloo center for the arts. doors will open at three. the former president is expected to begin speaking around four. v-p nominee tim kaine is in dubuque today as he campaigns for hillary clinton -- at loras college at one-45. kaine's counterpart -- republican vice presidential nominee mike pence -- is also coming back to the state. he'll be in warren county week. his kids to make the push for him in iowa. donald junior stopped at the social house in cedar falls -- near u-n-i's campus. he described what he called corrupt politicians in the nation's capital -- and tried to engage young voters before election day. house speaker paul ryan is also in eastern iowa today --campaigning with congressman rod blum in waterloo. the two are scheduled to speak at the cedar valley hospitality house at three o'clock. congressman blum is in a tight race in eastern iowa. yesterday, we heard from him. this morning, we're hearing what her challenger would do if voters elect her on tuesday. kwwl's nikki newbrough has more with monica vernon. monica vernon. focusing this week on talking to voters. her plan if elected...fight for working families. cedar rapids early yesterday morning. police say it all started with a traffic stop. investigators say jerime mitchell started some sort of fight with the officer. the officer shot him. mitchell then took off -- allegedly hitting an unmarked police suv -- before smashing into cars "it was kind of scary for some of us because like you don't think it's going to happen. you don't think well, it's coe it's not going to happen to us. one officer in the s-u-v that was hit was taken to the p be ok. we don't know what exactly happened that led to the officer firing at mitchell. that's something the d-c-i is a shooting in waterloo leaves a man in the hospital. the man was found in the area of rhey and franklin streets around 11 yesterday morning. police say he had been shot. he was rushed into surgery -- no neighbors say they heard at im shaking a lot right now they wont come back? it's always a repeat around this area and

a high speed chase streamed live on facebook -- by the man police were trying to catch. an officer in tulsa went inside a coffee shop this week, but left her keys in the squad car. a man got in -- took off -- led police on a high- speed chase after 40 minutes, officers caught up with him. he had this parents' home. frightening moments right in the middle of traffic -- caught on tape. the video shows a little boy riding into traffic on his toy car. this happened in china. several cars drive around him before a police officer comes to his rescue. the officer says found the child's mother and took him home. a car crash turns into a river rescue.

that happened after she crashed her car. officers say she spent close to 45 minutes in water before a boat rescued her. video of the rescue shows her trying to fight off the good samaritans who jumped in the hospital to be treated for hypothermia. the federal government steps in to the help pay the bills after severe flooding in eastern iowa. the president signed off on a counties. allamakee, benton, black hawk, bremer, buchanan, butler, chickasaw, clayton, delaware, fayette, linn and winneshiek are all on the list. the money will be used to do emergency work and fix facilities damaged by the floods, "so it's going to save the taxpayers the dollars in terms of the sandbags, the streets, time, overtime, and the costs associated with those." the cedar falls mayor also says some money from state grants will
