but they are now world series champs. check out the celebration outside wrigley field last night as the cubs beat cleveland in dramatic fashion -- 8-7 in extra innings. the crowd erupted. tens of thousands of fans pouring into the streets there. many other fans went to cleveland to see game seven. we'll have much more on the thrilling m a bit. let's check on your weather now with storm track 7 meteorologist eileen loan.

martin were both shot dead in a surprise attack yesterday morning. they were shot as they sat in the patrol cars a few miles apart. it did not take long for police to have a suspect in mind -- and they arrested him after nine dallas county. blake mccoy has the latest on the investigation. canvassed the iowa neighborhood "officer's been shot, we need medics." police say it was 1:06am -- responding to a call of shots fired -- that they found martin shot dead in the front seat of his squad car. a rookie officer.. this was his first 20 minutes later -- 2 miles away -- des moines sgt. tony beminio was found shot in his squad car. he died at the opportunity for the officers to and didn't have a chance to defend themselves. police moved quickly to identify 46 year-old scott michael greene as their suspect. he turned himself in hours later.

run-in with officers on youtube -- after being asked to leave a high school football game for holding a confederate flag during the national anthem. "greene: i think i've been assaulted by you. you grabbed me. officer: i escorted you outside the stadium. greene: you grabbed me." greene lives here with his mother... who nehigobs rsay was trying to evict him. "never thought it would come to this, that he was that unsettled officers have been killed in the line of duty. 16 -- in ambush style attacks like the ones today.. and earlier this year in dallas and batton rouge. t officers -- heartache. the men were just doing their job. it was senseless. a law enforcement source says greene has a history of mental health problems -- but investigators are still looking

interaction at all between him and the officers. it's also unclear if either shooting was caught on a police camera. tributes and memorials are pouring in -- in honor of the two officers. flowers cover a police car at the urbandale police department. that's where officer justin martin worked. he was 24 years old. he'd been on the force since last year. never before has a law enforcement officer been killed in the line of duty in urbandale. r the shooting in urbandale. a tarp covers the car officer martin was in. one of the people who brought flowers to the memorial in honor of officer martin says they felt so sad -- and mentioned the police shootings across the country -- saying they're scared nobody is going to take care of us anymore. we mentioned that sergeant beminio grew up in iowa city. he was a standout athlete at iowa for the trojans, and also was an all- state lineman on the football team.

trump's running mate is also talking about the tragedy. mike pence had this to say the hearts of the nation are breaking for the families of these two courageous officers and for the entire law enforcement family and for the community of des moines. he asked for a moment of silence for the two iowa officers killed. hillary clinton campaigned in nevada -- where she also mentioned the tragedy. bring the full weight of the law police officer and see to it that they are brought to justice. she also tweeted that she's heartbroken and there's no justification for this kind of violence. her running mate cancelled a campaign stop in des moines after he learned about the shootings. tim kaine and former president he did go to dubuque -- for this campaign event. i was a mayor in richmond and

know the shockwave that immediately sends throughout the entire community, not just the law enforcement community but throughout the entire community. today, kaine is on his way to arizona for campaign stops there. decision 2016 v much attention is on the presidential race. but there are critical state elections we're keeping a close eye on. one of those for senate district 30 -- which makes up black hawk county. incumbent jeff danielson up against bonnie saddler. kwwl's macleod hageman spoke republican candidate bonnie sadler serves on the iowa alliance in homecare board -- says she brings a background in health care and business to the table. "i feel like i have a good best wants to be. they want to be at home and receive

effective." but firefighter, navy veteran jeff danielson says that's not the type of person iowans need... "we have to improve in iowa, and we need a comprehensive plan for mental health services." danielson says he supports infrastructure improvements like new roads and bridges to help grow the economy. "but also, we need to work on a war for talent not only here in america but around the world, and so if we invest in iowans in education and upskill them to keep up with the modern the current tax code needs simplified to attract new business. ben zobrist is the world series m-v-p. a century of misery is now over. fans celebrating into the early morning hours. we haven't heard of any major problems in chicago, but in iowa city a man enjoying the cubs win early this morning -- climbed a light hospital and at this point -- there's no word on the fans look out for the cubs - just as the cubs look out for their fans. before game seven, the cubs tweeted a super- official excuse note for everyone. it asks for an excused absence from work, class or any other responsibility a chicago cubs' fan might have. it says - "we can not - fly the 'w' without them." it adds... "if you're not familiar with sports narratives ... well, it's kind of a big deal." next up for the cubs is the championship parade.
