your vote and america elects its 45th president. not only that -- there are elections for congress, the state legislature, sheriff... a lot going on today -- and we've got you covered all day and night right here on kwwl. the presidential election is the centerpiece. hillary clinton and donald trump campaigning late into the night. whoever wins takes over at a are upset... and don't trust those in washington. "i want you to be able to say that you did vote. you voted for an inclusive, big-hearted, open-minded country future that will make sure that we all ke moving together, because i do believe we are stronger together." clinton closed out her campaign with a rally early this morning featuring lady gaga and bon jovi. trump is wrapping up his presidential campaign on election day as

midnight in michigan. he's hoping to turn that state red today. the rally ended after earlier stops in new hampshire, pennsylvania, north carolina, and florida. "we don't need jay-z or all we need is great ideas, to make america great again. that's all we need, that's all we need." already voted. that's higher than what we saw four years ago. in iowa -- democrats lead in early ballots. 41 to 35 percent. but that gap is smaller than what we saw four years ago -- which is a good sign for trump in iowa. election night headquarters are getting ready for the candidates -- and what they hope will be a big night. clinton's campaign will hold its event in new york -- at the

hall with a glass ceiling. never before has the country had a woman as president -- not to mention the spouse of a former president. her supporters hope she will give a victory speech there tonight. virginia is one state to watch early tonight. an early win in that state -- bodes well for her. if it drags on -- that could mean it good night for donald trump. trump's campaign is headquartered at the new york hilton midtown. this is the first time both night since 1944. another big state to watch tonight is florida -- no surprise -- considering how important it's been in many other elections over the years. trump and clinton fought fiercely for that state. even though we don't know who will be sworn in -- preparations are already well underway for the inauguration. a chain link fence now stands in front of the north side of the white

pennsylvania avenue. the secret service, fbi....fema and other agencies have been "even though we still haven't gotten to the elections yet we still have to prepare because we know there will be a president elected into the white house so might as well get everything ready to go." the next president of the united states will take the oath of office on january 20th. the first votes are already being counted this morning. the tiny new hampshire town of dixville notch opens the polls at midnight. those polls then close as soon as state law allows communities with fewer than 100 voters to do that. donald trump is off to a good start in that small town and two others. so far, it's 32-25 trump over clinton 57 votes counted... with millions more to go tonight. we're also watching state races very closely. right now, republicans hold a majority in the iowa house - 57

after tonight. that could be a different story in the senate. iowa democrats will try to hold onto their slim advantage. right now, they're in control -- by means republicans could control the house, senate and governor's office. another down ballot election tonight features names that many iowans may not know. cady, hecht and appel. they are iowa surpreme court because they n' but for three candidates on the ballot, the silence is significant. three iowa supreme court justices are up for retention votes. chief justice mark cady along with justices daryl hecht and brent appel need a simple for the first time since a controversial ruling in 2009. that's when the court ruled unanimously to legalize gay marriage. after that, christian conservatives campaigned to get

voters removed three -- which marks the only time that's system more than 50 years ago. the justices don't campaign because they believe the court should be above politics. "they're just fine, fine, fine individuals, everyone in the judiciary. we're very fortunate here in iowa, we really are." john wood and the iowa state bar association tries to almost 15-hundred lawyers grade judges on a number of things: "knowledge of the law, punctuality, courtroom decorum that matter to iowans." in the most recent review, chief justice cady received a 91% -- which would be similar to an a. justice hecht high-profile effort to campaign against the justices this time around. the family leader rejected kwwl's request for an interview, but gave a statement -- saying in part -- they want people to vote them out -- claiming the justices have used their office for political activism. the bar

here is additional forecast information from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team: stormtrack7 live weather network cameras will show clearing skies this morning as a cold front tracks to the east. we will end up mainly sunny for the next several days with breezy conditions today and thursday. temps this morning are mainly in the 50s but will drop into the 40s t front.... cooler to the northwest. winds have turned to the north northwest behind the front and are already around 15 mph and will stay there most of the day, gusting higher at times. a few clouds are tracking through the dakotas with a weak disturbance approaching the plains, but we will be mainly dry for the next several days. it will be cooler today with highs in the 50s and 60s over the region...

"he has a desire to learn more desire. that is all he shared with me." if he's convicted of giving support to a terrorist organization, he faces up to 20 years in prison. two cars involved in a deadly crash in cedar falls -- have been destroyed in a fire. that crash happened early saturday morning. the fire on sunday. the fire happened in a police storage building. the fire department is investigation. police say riot gear they use was also destroyed -- along with other things kept as long term evidence - typically held until court cases are over. police chief jeff olsen says this will not have a major "yeah, there's nothing really this is just more long term storage for cases that have been disposed of but we don't want to get rid of the evidence." the fire department says there

no injuries but a fire destroys a camper. the camper was parked in a neighborhood on the southeast side of cedar rapids--- near investigators believe they know what started a fire in waterloo. a toaster. here's what the home looks like now -- on california street. a woman says she put a pop-tart in the toaster on sunday morning -- then walked out of the kitchen her kitchen in flames. calling the fire department, four ten minutes, "ten minutes to destroy your home" ten mintues, that's all it took" she says she is grateful she was awake because the home has no working smoke detectors. flood victims are being given more time to apply for help. the deadline to apply is december 7th. people in 25 counties -- many of those in eastern iowa -- can apply for grants of up to five-thousand
