"i didnt stay up last night to listen so i am really suprised this morning.." trump is our next president. waking up..(nats of food) and getting out. donald trump is the next president of the united states. some are suprised- "i just kept saying wow.." others, not so much.. in the back of my head i suprised. i wasnt suprised but i was ap lieth says she's worried about america's future. from the kwwl stormtrack information. here is additional forecast information from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team: it is not going to be as cold southwest late. thursday is the warmest of the next seven days with highs in the mid 60s due to temperatures...near 50 degrees. the sky remains clear through early next week with no rain or tonight as it was last night due to the wind increasing from the a gusty southwest wind. friday and saturday are cooler and closer to normal temperatures...near 50 degrees. the sky remains clear through early next week with no rain or to the wind increasing from the a gusty southwest wind. friday and saturday are cooler and early next week with no rain or snow through at least wednesday. donald trump came out on top donald trump came out on top with 279 electoral college votes. but hillary clinton is expected to win the popular vote.
6:04 pm
kwwl's elizabeth amanieh is here to explain. amanda-i tried to break it down as simply as i could with political analyst dr. chris larimer and we used candy. one recess piece represents one electoral college vote. and one "so if you look at the map. what we've done here is we've the number of electoral college votes that they have. so both have 29 so they both have 29 pieces. and what we're using are the recess peanut butter cups to represent popular votes. andc a million popular votes." so last night in florida, clinton and trump received approximately 4 and a half milliom votes so they each get 9 peanut butter cups. we know that donald trump had the slight edge in florida. so he did win all the electoral college votes. so he got all 29 recess pieces but they both ended up with the same number of recess peanut butter cups, and that they both have 4 and a hald million votes. now you got up to new york, but in new york, hillary
6:05 pm
donald trump had two and a half million votes so donald recess peanut butter cups, so at this point they both have the same number of recess pieces. in terms of electoral college votes they both have, 29 eices pieces, but now you're talking about hillary clinton 17 recess peanut butter cups and donald hillary clinton has obviously received mroe popular votes at this time, and if you move over to north dakota and south dakota, two less populated states, donald trump won both. he won them by a combined margin of 230,000 votes. so he gets the 6 electoral college votes from both states, so his electoral college vote goes up to 35, hillary clinton's stil at 29. but because she built up such a lead in new york she still has more popular votes. we're only taking half of a reces peanut butter cup at this point, as far as cutting into
6:06 pm
margin. and if so that pattern repeats itself across the country, you can have a case where a candidate like donald trump who wins less populated states, most of the less populated states, is going to rack up large margins in the electoral college. but if hillary clinton, his opponent is winning large states like new york and she may end up winning the popular vote. i also asked dr. larimer now does this popular vote then really make a difference. and he said it does when it comes to those local elections down the ballot. elizabeth amanieh news 7 kwwl. iowa has six electoral votes... that number comes from our total number of congressmen in washington.
