>> we have watched molly ringwald grow up before our eye s in films like "16 candles" to "the breakfast club" forced to serve a saturday detention with an eclectic group of students. >> now taking on another beloved '80s film classic, this time on the stage. it's that fabulous movie we all love, "terms of endearment." but now it's a stage show and you're playing the iconic shirley macclaine role. how could that possibly be? >> i know, when i first got the call it didn't seem possible. i mean, it was a movie that i loved so much. shirley macclaine has an absolutely flawless, flawless performance. but you know, she was 50 years old we she got the academy award for it which meant she was about 48, 49 and i'm 48 so -- >> it works out. >> yeah. >> did you love that movie? >> i loved it so much. >> i remember crying so hard in the movie.

floodgates open. >> yeah, exactly. our play, it's never been done as a play before. our play is a combination between the james brooks screenplay and the larry mcmertry book. we have elements from -- >> the writers. >> yeah, they're phenomenal writers. >> is that pressure because shirley macclaine played that role before you? >> i would say there's a fair amount of pressure because it was such an incredible amount of performance. teenager and made the choice not to watch it again because it would be hard not to make either single choice that she made. >> but you know because you're an actress and you've been in many films you get a chance to do it a ton of times when you do it in the film but you don't get another chance on the stage, your performance is what it is in that moment. >> you have a lot of days to explore and try different things. i'm really trying to find my own way into the character and make her a little different. she's a little bit more like the aurora in the book. and, you know, i put a lot of myself and people i know --
