continued for a second night across the country. tens of thousands upset with the election of donald trump as our next president. continuing coverage now -- continuing coverage: an abandoned building catches fire in waterloo. firefighters rescue a man who was trapped inside -on the second floor. then police have to arrest him for trespassing. this happening in the 900 block of commercial street early this morning. police say although the building is abandoned... they sometimes find homeless people living inside. authorities say the exact cause investigation -- but there are no arson charges right now. one man's death is raising more questions about the treatment for veterans in iowa. curtis gearhart was living in johnston after serving two tours in the military as a combat engineer. he had been receiving treatment for p-t- s-d. but when he went back in to the v-a about two months ago for recurring headaches, family members say he was told he had "they send these soldiers over so young to fight these wars and then they don't

taking care of them when they come home." senator joni ernst says she plans to look into what happened between curtis and the v-a. ernst is also waiting for answers about the death of brandon ketchum. his family says he tried to get help at the v-a in iowa city -- but they claim he was turned away. he took his own life in july. senator ernst sent a letter to the v-a one week later demanding an investigation. she's st a deadly drug is making a name for itself in iowa. carfentanyl is the name of it -- and it is potent. the governor's office is teaming up with others to hold town hall meetings across the state. they want to teach families about this drug and others. mary patch -- lost her niece to prescription pain killers... country. today president obama is honoring our nation's veterans. this morning -- the president layed a wreath at the tomb of the unknowns --- an annual observance at arlington national cemetery. here's a sky high veterans tribute at a hockey game. four navy seals rappelled down from the rafters in florida. they were there for the face-off. between the two team captains. an early veterans day surprise from a father to his sons. yesterday, a school in connecticut held its veterans day ceremony. students sang patriotic songs and learned about the different branches of the military. a senior chief petty officer returned home from a deployment in africa -- just in time to surprise his kids... "absolutely insane. huge butterflies. i haven't seen these guys in about eight months. so it's been a long time, way too long."

they recently opened their home to kwwl's amanda goodman to share a very own homes. it was 3:30 in the morning and i opened the door and i could see forgot to turn off the lights. all of the lights were on (starts to cry)...that's when you found him? (she nods - let this part breathe) it was there - in her basement - that wendy came face to face with the unimaginable. her 15-year-old son around his family...was gone. it was there - in her basement - that wendy's son took his own life. my mom called me and i could literally feel my heart hitting the floor. alan mast - wendy's brother - evan's uncle...drove an hour to get to his sister's house in the middle of that night... they had him where he was...before they moved him. i

wendy, alan - and the rest of their tight knit family shocked - there were no signs they saw leading up to that fateful night. evan was a free-spirit always wanted to do right by people... sometimes he felt like he didn't always fit in...just wanted people to like him. my last day with him i never knew anything was wrong with him. he would always stay up late - it's ok mom - go to bed - i love you. there were no signs before - but evan left clues behind - like pieces to a puzzle... i find out after the fact that he was failing every single subject and i never knew anything about it. evan was failing - his uncle and grandfather found so many completed assignments in his folders - completed but never handed in. he cut ties with nearly every single family member on
