for your complete weather information. here is additional forecast information from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team: areas of dense fog have formed in the last few hours over the kwwl viewing area. we have mainly clear skies now, but clouds are tracking in from the west... mainly high and thin. temperatures are in the 30s to mid 40s this morning and winds are calm to around 10 mph from the north, but they will become more westerly today and we should end up with plenty of sunlight. highs will stay mild... in the up even warmer tomorrow and thursday... but a change is coming by friday. i'll have more in a few minutes. some new developments this morning as the white house transition begins to take shape. former new york mayor rudy

favorite to become the next secretary of state. tracie potts has more on the trump team taking shape. criticism is pouring in on president- elect donald trump's choice of steve bannon as chief strategist. "the fact the republicans have been silence on bannon's appointment is a disturbing side." bannon's "reitbart news" website is a nationalists. team trump defends him. "this is a very balanced, very sensible, very smart man." "i look forward to having a discussion on whoever they appoint." president obama declined to weigh in on bannon. but he is giving the president elect some advice on how to heal a divided nation. "how he reaches out to groups that may not have supported him, how he signals his interest in their issues or concerns, i think

reports that steve mnuchin - mr. trump's campaign finance chair - is being considered as treasury secretary conservative radio host laura ingraham as press secretary and rudy guiliani and former u-n ambassador john bolton as secretary of state. "i won't be attorney general." "i can escape that one, thank god." insiders say the trump transition is ahead of schedule. trump's children - his closest advisors - are part of that team. an official confirms to nbc that the transition team has inquired if it would be possible for them to get security clearances. i'm tracie o taking heat this morning -- a city council member who refuses to stand during the pledge of allegiance. the council member in oshkosh, wisconsin says some words in the pledge are hard for her to hear right now -- she singled out the words -- with liberty and justice for all -- saying she doesn't believe those things are true right now. so instead of standing up and faking her way through it -- she sat down. "politics does not, should not

right to do it. is this the right environment in which to do it?" the mayor says she won't be disciplined -- and the city council member says she plans to stand for the pledge at the next meeting. democrats are still licking their wounds this morning after a disappointing election across the country and in iowa. state senator jeff danielson held onto his seat -- but the democrats lost control of the state senate. he admits democrats have a tough road ahea sure that my district, the cedar expect. senator danielson says he will not go after or accept a leadership position within the democratic party. he says his sole focus now is to represent the voters in his district. continuing coverage this morning

a 19-year-old shot to death a few days ago. the third murder in waterloo this year. the victims -- 19, 21 and 22. a community leader -- a pastor -- talks about the pain and frustration. "i would say, don't give up. in them, when they don't believe in themselves. i would say, look at them and tell them they can do anything and they can be think we will see a change. department is getting lots of tips coming in on the two most recent murders. this morning, there are still questions about a shooting involving an officer in cedar rapids. police say jerime mitchell began some sort of fight with officer lucas jones during a traffic stop a few weeks ago.

friends say it's not like mitchell to released. "release the footage, release the footage! "we want answers, release the footage!" the linn county attorney's office says releasing the dash cam video too early could affect the investigation. the brother of an n-f-l player has been shot and killed. brian moore georgia. his brother is telvin smith -- who plays for jacksonville. police believe moore was targeted, but no arrests have been made in the shooting. two -- but they were later released. a veteran journalist known for moderating debates has died. p-b-s newshour co-anchor gwen ifill passed away yesterday. she had been battling cancer. she was a former newspaper reporter who eventually switched over to t-v... working for both n-b-c

she moderated last february's democratic presidential primary debate. today marks one year since a young man died after a confrontation with police in minneapolis. the officers were cleared in the death of jamar clark. tonight, a candlelight vigil will be held. a peace march is also being days after a jury deadlocks -- a group demands a retrial. the jury could not reach a unanimous decision in the case of university of cincinnati police officer ray tensg murdering an unarmed man during a traffic stop. representatives from black lives matter gave a letter to the prosecutor's office -- calling on them to try tensing again. the trial for sergeant bowe bergdahl is now set for may. on monday, attorneys argued about who could have access to evidence -- calling some of it "top secret" which means berghdahl would not have access. bergdahl is accused of walking off his post in afghanistan. he

taliban for five years -- before being released in a prison-swap. he's charged with desertion. next month, a georgia man will be sentenced in the death of his son, a toddler. justin harris was convicted of murder. his 22-month-old son died after harris left him alone in a hot s-u-v. prosecutors say harris planned to kill his son -- because he didn't want to be a dad anymore. state of emergency extended in flint, michigan. it was supposed to expire yesterday -- but the mayor renewed the state of emergency. she says the water is still not safe to drink without a filter. she called it a civil rights and public health issue that must well known through a documentary -- could soon be released from prison. a federal judge says brendan dassey needs to released -- since his murder conviction was overturned. his case got a lot of attention

dassey and his uncle, steven avery, were convicted of killing a woman more than a decade ago. prosecutors say dassey confessed to helping avery. but a judge overturned the conviction -- saying his constitutional rights were violated when he was questioned. free this morning -- a man who spending 28 years in prison for for rape many years ago. supporters say d-n-a evidence that could've proven him innocent a long ti neglected by the d-a's office. there, that a person didn't commit a crime, then why prosecute it? it doesn't seem right in the eyes of common sense, as well as the law itself that dictates when the prosecution can try a case and when they can't try a case." the man will get about two-million dollars in damages. the battle over a key city in

iraqis are trying to re-take mosul from isis. it's the last major stronghold for isis in iraq. iraqi soldiers have been facing intense sniper fire and suicide car bombs. that has slowed them down. expect more security for the macy's thanksgiving day parade this year. a story in an isis magazine calls for a lone wolf attack at the parade. it calls the parade a -- quote -- excellent target. a troubling, but nothing new. "the nypd and the jttf are second to none when it comes to addressing threats like this." he said police will use a multi-layered security strategy to keep people along the parade route safe. the department of defense identifies two u.s. soldiers killed at a u.s. airfield in afghanistan. a soldier from illinois and a soldier from california were killed by an i-e-d.

stormtrack 7 weather team: stormtrack7 live weather network cameras will likely catch areas of fog early this morning... visibilities are down to a mile or less in many areas. we will get rid of that by mid-morning with plenty of sunshine around.. although there may be high clouds. we stay warm for the next few days, but there is a change coming by friday. right now, though, we are still mild... in the 30s over most of the viewing area with the 30s to the west as well, although warming as the winds turn to the southwest... we will keep that westerly flow today and we should keep quite a bit of sunlight, although some clouds are tracking in from the dakotas.

again. some believe the presidential campaign kept the lid on football ratings in recent weeks. it's hard to know for sure -- but ratings -- which had been slumping -- went up over the weekend -- the first since the week between new england and seattle right here on kwwl -- was the highest rated game for any week ten sunday night contest in the last five years. paying tribute to the king of pop -- on the football field. new york giants wide receive odell beckham junior wasn't even alive when michael jackson's thriller smashed the charts years ago -- but that didn't matter. watch his celebration in the end zone after catching a touchdown pass in their game against the bengals last night.

point -- 21 to 20. no drama necessary in ames last night. the 20th ranked iowa state cyclones in action against mount saint mary's. the cyclones scored 113 in their opener the other night. not quite as crisp on offense last night -- but still good enough. monte morris leads the cyclones with 18 as iowa state opens two and oh on the season -- with a to have fun...and so do their fans. during a break in the action sunday against charlotte -- four teams of fans dressed up and played a real life game of "hungry hungry hippos." each team was trying to gather the most balls from pile to win a gift certificate. the fans win. and so did the cavs. more than thirty thousand pounds of
