with storm track 7 meteorologist eileen loan. good morning. eileen on camera from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team. see the screen here is additional forecast information from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team: we are already pretty warm out there this morning... many of us already in the 50s. we are helped out by southerly winds that are still mainly 10 to 15 mph with some higher gusts already this morning... but they will be picking up. gusts will and into the overnight. we have some high clouds tracking in and they will stick with us today, but the moisture with this system holds off until tomorrow. today, we will be partly sunny, breezy and warm with highs in the mid 60s to mid 70s and winds gusting continuing coverage this morning: bail denied for a man accused of killing a toddler.

year. his mother left the two-year-old with kamel harris as she moved from cedar rapids to chicago. police believe the child was lactose intolerant and cried for an entire afternoon after having milk. investigators think harris snapped. they found the boy's blood in harris' car and arrested him. there's nothing he can do. there's no turning, he can't run from it anymore. no more running, he can't run anymore. no more lies. man up and tell the truth. dating -- the boy's mother. he's a friend of a friend. he's now charged with murder. funeral services are held for a woman killed in a crash. the crash happened this month on highway 57 near downtown cedar falls. cynthia brooks was killed. her cousin, charles brooks was arrested and charged after police say he was going more

"i can't have any hate in my heart because i just knew how he felt ..i don't know what was happening but i can't carry that on my shoulders because i have to be strong." police say charles climbed a fence, trying to jump into the river but police were able to grab him. it takes six hours, but a man is ok -- rescued from a chimney. here's a look at the pictures from southeast iowa. this is in grandview -- in louisa county. an employee was trapped inside an industrial chimney at a midamerican energy plant. rescue crews climbed skywalks and used ropes to lower him down. one firefighter was hurt -- but should be ok. three people are in the hospital after a food truck burns on a college campus. it happened at george washington

the truck is a coverted school bus. no word yet on what started the fire. colder weather is coming very soon. we know that. some people who are homeless have been using abandoned buildings in waterloo to stay warm. those buildings can be unsafe. last week, a fire started in an old apartment complex on commercial street. a man was rescued from a second story window. he was arrested for trespassing after being pulled from the burning in waterloo -- this one at the corner of elm and mulberry. police say no one lives in that house -- but investigators believe someone who's homeless might have been in the home. kwwl's elizabeth amanieh is asking why some of those in need are not turning to shelters. for chad bruce-this abandoned building used to be his only place to stay. but after he was rescued from a fire here-he was arrested and later charged with trespassing. now he's homeless again. "people might think we're lazy,

bruce and his friend linda mulder have been homeless in waterloo for a few months. linda mulder "i'm fighting depression and anxiety issues, i'm on different medications, i was just in the hospital last week, and i got to go back secluded abandoned buildings instead of shelters in the area. "staying at shelters like this one is an option, but the people "staying at shelters like this one is an option, but the people here say it's a two-way street, the salvation army is one resources - offering both womens and mens shet have to. they're pretty basic, be nice to others, do your sometimes we just don't care for that." with short term housing for those who need immediate emergency shelter, and also long term transitional housing-a six to eight week program to help them get back on to not seek help. "i've never really been homeless before, more or less, pride is a hard thing to swallow at times." but with winter around

"it's gonna be too cold for abandoned buildings you know, i don't know what i'll do, but something will happen you know. there's also the catholic workers house. they offer what they call emergency shelter for up to ten days. the salvation army has started their red kettle campaign -- taking donations to help those in need. you've probably seen the bell ringers out already. a school bus ends up in a very tight spot -- and parents are not happy about it. look at this video. a bus got caught under a railroad crossing gate as a train went by. the school district says the intersection isn't very big and

back of the bus would've been in danger anyway... it would've "trains aren't quiet so they don't just sneak up on you and just to be on that track, the whole situation should have been avoided." when the gate comes down... there's about 25 feet between the gate and the road --- which is not enough room to fit some buses. heart-stopping moments for any parents... but at the same time changing table for just a moment when he rolled over. but his nine- yeaor-dl brother was there just in time. right place, right time. the baby's ok. her brother a hero for his quick reaction. the time now is linn county will not be home to the trial of a former teacher involved in a sex scandal.

haglin has been charged with sexual exploitation. she admitted to having a relationship with a 17-year-old student. her trial is being moved to tama county. it begins november 28th. a former teacher in texas could spend 30 years in prison for having a relationship with a middle school student. the teacher -- who's 24 -- was involved with a 13- year-old student. she pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault. now to the white house transition. a trump adviser says it could be after thanksgiving -- maybe even next month -- before the president-elect announces his cabinet choices. tracie potts tells us about the new names being considered this morning -- including the republican who won the iowa caucuses. new names are emerging as possible choices for president-elect trump's cabinet lieutenant general mike flynn as national security advisor

senator ted cruz as attorney general. "i am eager to help any way i can." south carolina governor nikki haley's reportedly being considered as secretary of state - even though she publicly opposed trump. "we have an immense amount of talent out there." including "we discussed the transition, it went really well." former new york mayor rudy giuliani... and former u-n ambassador john bolton. but there may be enough democrats and republicans to block both. this video of a woman harrassing a cedar rapids police officer. it happened at brewhemia in cedar rapids. the coffee shop then started 'operation blue- hemia' to support officers -- and give them free coffee when they come in. they wanted to raise one thousand dollars. they hit that -- and are still going -- at about 18- hundred dollars now. the owner of a crumbling eastern iowa landmark misses a court deadline -- but says he's close to selling the building. jim krueger owns the former headquarte t malting and brewing company at the corner of jackson and 30th in downtown dubuque. these pictures of the building come from our coverage partners at the telegraph herald. he agreed to a court order to stabilize or demolish collapsed portions of the building by last week -- but no work has been done yet. instead -- the owner says he has a purchase offer from a cedar rapids company to turn the building into apartments. the sale isn't a done deal, but it could be close. the building is in such poor shape some nearby streets are

home to the largest brewer in the country. an iowa native is on the verge of space history today. peggy whitson is about to become the oldest woman in space. she'll be 56 when she rockets off the planet today. she's on her way to the international space station -- where she will turn 57 in february. this will be her third space station mission -- her second as commander. she talked about what she'll miss when she's away from home. challenging about spaceflight is the lack of variety of the food." peggy grew up in the tiny town of beaconsfield. that's in southern iowa with a population of 15. today's launch is at two-twenty our time. peggy says she has goals for nasa before she dies. she says we need to be living on mars. she also said she might not live that long -- so we better get with
