about cost. you just want to get better. many families feel powerless -- in some cases, being forced to choose between a mortgage payment or health insurance. president obama tried to address that, but, most believe, it didn't work-- because costs keep going up. kwwl's jerry gallagher is digging deeper into the problem -- and where we go from here -- in s "repealing and replacing the disaster known as obamacare." that promise from donald trump. he's now on his way to washington, a city already hearing plenty about the problem from iowans. "if you would've said to me 3 or 4 years ago, that we'd would've said 'no way,' but we did because it's justified unfortunately." the insurance companies argue they need you to pay more to cover the high costs of those iowans who were not insured before. think of the cost of health care like a dartboard. you have medical care -- like tests of the board, prescription drugs taking up another big chunk. but recently, the focus of the conversation on the soaring cost care act -- otherwise known as "obamacare has 2,700 "prescription drugs are out of control, especially specialty drugs." states and i don't see it getting any better unfortunately." "but were they not going up before aca?" "they were." "to this level?" "not even close." insurance premiums are up 213 percent since 1999. it's been a problem for a long time, but rates have skyrocketed in recent years after the president's health care law kicked in. "it addressed insurance, not health care cost." system, insurance companies are struggling to keep up. especially when you consider what happened in iowa. "one claim is generating $18 million in costs." wait? what? back up a minute. "they've never seen anything like this." we don't know anything about the family because of patient privacy laws, but we do know, not enough "obamacare means higher prices, fewer choices, and lower quality." so mr. president- elect, where do we go from here? "i will ask congress to convene a special session so we altogether. "the voters don't need to worry about their 25-year-old or younger staying on their policies or pre-existing conditions." based on interviews with congressional republicans, both of those popular components of obamacare could

"you can sit here and say, 'my insurance company is paying for it,' but at the end of the day, we're all paying for it." time will tell if a new law we're learning even more about the claims coming from the iowa family you heard about. through the first four months of this year, they turned in claims worth nine million dollars. so that's 27- million in ten months. we asked -- how is that even possible? the insurance commissioner says -- they don't know -- because by law -- they cannot see their records.
