stop from winning the first-ever game between virginia tech and notre dame. and it looked like the irish were going to run away with it early, taking a 17-0 lead. hokies came back. irish came back, took another 17-point lead. and then virginia tech with a field goal by slye, a couple of field goals in this fourth quarter, finally took the lead at 34-31. their first lead of the game. and jerod evans and company -- >> doug: he just kept plugging, running the football, the short passing game, the touch up and over to hodges, just kept fighting. and in the fourth quarter with the wind at their back, eventually they overtook notre dame. >> dan: so if the hokies win this game, it will be impressive indeed. it was one of those games where was the real drive going to come from virginia tech because it's not going to have anything to do

division title. that will come next week against virginia. they win that game and they sew that up. here on the road against notre dame, just this stop away from putting it away. kizer is going to run for the first down, takes another hit. and stops the clock and he did take another hit. took one earlier in the game that kelly thought was targeting. and now that was a vicious hit as well and he is very slow in getting off the turf. >> doug: is there a situation here where the ten-second runoff since they had to stop the clock? now, if they can review that, is targeting, a hit on the head again. >> dan: was that the shoulder it

snow dropped last night -- causing slick driving conditions. state troopers say several accidents happened from slick roads and poor visibility -- ranging from fender benders to crashes where people were injured. continuing coverage -- president-elect donald trump filling dozens of positions in his upcoming administration. he's meeting with potential candidates all weekend at his golf course in new jersey. chris pollone reports. half-dozen people saturday. as he tries to round out his administration. (nats: camera clicks) among them. former massachusetts governor mitt romney. who led a blistering presidential candidate:17 - :21 "here's what i know. donald trump is a phony, a fraud." mentioned as a potential pick for secretary of state. but trump advisers characterized the meeting as an

"it went great." speak with the president elect and i look forward to the coming administration. trump has announced his picks for attorney general, about whether more announcements are jersey governor chris christie and former new york city mayor rudolph giuliani expected to meet with trump. despite the busy schedule, trump managed to tweet saturday morning. taking aim at the cast of the broadway musical "hamilton." vice president elect mike pence attended the show friday night. from the stage, the cast urged pence to represent all americans. s/brandon victor dixon / actor 1:13 - 1:21 "we, sir, we are the diverse us." trump demanded an apology. and said pence was "harassed". a cast member responded that "conversation" isn't harassment. chris pollone, nbc

man says he isn't sure who won the presidential election joe chandler says he was glued to his television election night but after a few hours -- he decided he didn't want to watch anymore and went to bed. the next day -- he says he didn't want to know at all. resident: "i'm wondering if he's a little.. you know." joe says when he leavs -- he wears headphones and a sign that reads -- i don't want know who won -- and i don't want to -- so iowa republicans excited to gain control following the november election -- marking the first time since 19-98 -- when the g- o-p had control over both house and senate. kwwl's taylor bailey talks with representive walt rogers -- and walt rogers says he has never been in the minority--but since the

without the possibility of parole. prosecutors say he attacked his girlfriend back in march for moving out of his parents' home. court documents indicate he wouldn't let her leave -- so he punched and kicked her. also -- using a machete and ash- tray to beat her. poland's mother got in the middle of the fight -- and his father took her to the hospital. police charge an indiana contractor-- accusing him of defraunding an iowa woman. 21-year old shawn bol-duc junior accused of pressuring an elderly woman to giving him several checks totally nearly 50-grand for home repair work. police are looking for two other men connected to the crime. a few loras college students want dubuque city leaders to ban the use of plastic carry-out bags -- kwwl's shirley descorbeth joins us live from the telegraph herald newsroom in dubuque with more. shirley?

addressing the dubuque city council about their concerns. they want people to reduce their use of single-use plastic check-out bags... students with the loras college honors project citing environmental issues for their such as the nearby mississippi river... causing harm to the environment, but also to animals who consume them. the group recommending several option to th completely banning them. "the ban wasn't met with a lot of praise from a lot of businesses, but we're hoping they'll still have the option to take plastic bags, that people will take it better and see what we're trying to do." other options are implementing a five to ten cent fee for using plastic check out bags.

braving the cold weather to raise money for a good cause. nearly 200 of them -- taking part in this year's polar plunge. the frigid temps ot from taking a quick dip in the barely anything. "right now i'm pretty cold, i have to say. other than that...not too bad." "how did it feel, the water?" the water was a lot warmer, i think i might go back in there later, take another dip." at last check -- nearly 40-thousand dollars has been raised through this event. money raised will benefit the special olympic winter games. it's not even thanksgiving yet
