and skateboard to attack his 16-year- old girlfriend -- is convicted of kidnapping and other charges. dakota poland of burlington faces a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. prosecutors say he attacked his girlfriend back in march for moving out of his parents' home. he wouldn't let her leave -- so he punched and kicked her. also -- using a machete and ash- tray to beat her. police charge an indiana contractor-- accusing him of scamming an iowa woman out of 50 thousand dollars.. 21-year old shawn bol-duc junior is accused of pressuring an elderly woman to give him several checks totalling nearly 50-grand for home repairs. police are looking for two other men connected to the a man and his two dogs are rescued from a house fire. this happened on first avenue southeast in cedar rapids last night. the cedar rapids fire department says a man was taken to a nearby hospital.

investigation. a group of students will be addressing the dubuque city council tomorrow. they want people to reduce their use of plastic bags. students with the loras college honors project will be voicing their concerns. they say most plastic bags end up in landfills and waterways such as the mississippi river... causing harm to the environment and animals. the group proposing several options to the council, including completely banning them. "the ban wasn't met with a lot that since this isn'ak they'll still have the option to take plastic bags, that people will take it better and see what we're trying to do." other options include a five to ten cent fee for using plastic bags at the check out. a portion of the funds earned would go to the grocery store... the rest to the city. an area woman showing her

"thinking of you" classmates sent her emails and notes... even signing a blanket for her. the school orechestra concert was dedicated in her honor. but that wasn't it... lilly's friends did something pretty unique. "and it's just hard to think of somehting like that happening." they started a fundraiser askign everyone school to donate change in these buckets... calling it pennies for lilly...
