tonight -- more on the stress that comes with those final preparations for the holiday tomorrow. new details tonight -- as a registered sex offender leads iowa state patrol on a high speed chase--with an under-age girl in his car-- it happened tuesday in johnson county. the man crashing into a utility pole in solon--that crash--sending the girl to the university of iowa hospital in critical condition. the driver--20- year-old jeffrey rangel was taken into custody. kwwl's kristin rogers joining us live from the iowa state patrol office in cedar rapids--kristin? state patrol tells me the driver and the girl knew each other-- at this time--we don't know why the man chose to run from the troopers-- but it all started when they tried to pull him over for speeding on the interstate--the car

through solon and onto gravel no other-- "i was gonna go out on the then i see red lights." moments later---jim steinbrech was watching a high maybe 80-85 miles an hour when he went by me i was in my lane on the tractor. but the trooper later told me he had him clocked at 100." the car eventually crashing into this utility pole-- the car eventually crashing into this utility pole-- the driver--taken into "we counted 14 highway patrol cars, 14 is a lot so i and is in critical condition-- crews have already replaced the utility pole and worked today--to remove the old one nats the investigation--is ongoing-- but steinbrech says--he had never seen anything quite like it.

during a special meeting this week -- residents at ridgeway place learned they'll have to find a new home -- since franciscan ministries is going out of business. families who traveled across the united states to visit loved ones at ridgeway place say the news through a wrench in their plans -- since now they have to worry where their loved ones are going this week and says he wishes the timing could have been better. "i"m really disappointed to find that she has such a short time, a really difficult time for the elderly to be moving around and making arrangements that time of the year." sean and his family visiting 98- year-old hazel in ridgeway place. even though she's lived here for nearly 12 years -- this will be her last time celebrating the holidays in her home. family telling me -- they're trying to find another place --

ministries -- they plan to host an open house at ridgeway for residents to meet represantives from other assited living facilities. the bus driver who hit and killed a iowa state student last year has now been fired by the city of ames. 24-year-old benjamin clague had been on paid administrative leave since news of the collision surfaced -- earning more than 28- thousand dollars even during a 30-day jail sentence earlier this year. h hit and run -- 18-year-old emmalee jacobs. the urbana native was a freshman when she was killed in the collision. clague was driving a cy-ride bus when he hit jacobs -- who was walking on the iowa state campus in ames he was arrested more than a month after the collision -- and eventually took a plea agreement of 30 days in jail and an 100-dollar fine. meanwhile -- a man has serious injuries after being hit by a truck while

the accident happening at the intersection of 17th and white streets in dubuque. a new hampshire man was hit by the truck -- which was turning off of 17th street. he was airlifted to iowa city -- but his current condition is not known tonight. a 22-year-old dubuque man was cited with failure to yield. concern growing among state employees about health insurance. governor branstad is looking to revise the state's collective bargaining law... so negotiate their benefits, rather they'd be part of a statewide health insurance program. kwwl's elizabeth amanieh taking a closer look elizabeth. those public employees we're talking about include teachers, d-o-t workers, sanitation employees, and even police officers. i took a ride along with a waterloo police officer to get a better understanding of just what's at stake. david mcfarland has been with the waterloo police department for more than twenty years. and for the last fourty years-health insurance

of collective bargaining in the state of iowa. but now that's up in the air following governor branstads proposal. "so it would take our coverage that we have and we don't know paying $100 dollars a month? what would our co- pays be? what would our deductibles be? that's all stuff that currently we are allowed to negotiate with the city of waterloo." a benefit mcfarland says he's earned over his years of service. "it's just one more thing for these officers to worry about. they look at the state of iowa and say well, they're not go somewhere that does allow me, they have better benefits package." something mcfarland, sees as an added barrier to recruiting officers. and with republican control in the senate and growing majority in the house-mcfarland says there's concern that branstad would be able to enact this plan. "given all the current events that have been going on, all the officers that have been shot or

support us. i just hope they realize how important this is to us, that that's one less thing we don't want to have to worry about, something being taken from us, and it not only affects us but also our families." another concern mcfarland did mention to me was the fact that the governor is not taking into account what negotiations were made by these l elizabeth amanieh news 7 kwwl. no changes have been set in stone- branstad is expected to reveal those plans when the legislative session meets in january. coming up on kwwl -- the last- minute rush. kwwl's lauren moss catching up with people out and about today. she joins us now live, lauren we all know the holidays can be a bit stressful..there's a lot to do! and many people were out, using their final moments to shop or get their cars fixed. people in the cedar valley today.. according to triple a, nationwide more than 43 million people are traveling by car this thanksgiving- and that has a lot to do with low gas prices.. roads werent only packed with people heading in or out of town...but many people were also out grocery shopping. maybe you waited for some last all can relate.. i am a little stressed my family didnt want to do anything bid for christmas or thanksgiving so i am out here doing it myself, going in here to get the sales and deals racking up in here and

we also stopped by boubin automotive in waterloo who had a jam-packed day today. the manager tells us it was mostly all last minute fix-ups like oil changes, and tire pressure before people hit the road. im right by 2-18 in waterloo. i've definitely noticed a lot more cars on the road tonight.. so take that into consideration as you head out..and safe travels. in wateo according to gas buddy, at last check, the cheapest gas in black hawk county is sam's club in waterloo at one dollars 81 cents. coming up... the uni volleyball team prepares to host the entire conference this thanksgiving... and a panther football player receives some special

good evening, i'm rick coleman. the northern iowa football team fell short of making the f-c-s playoffs this fall, but the panthers karter schult earns the top defensive honor in the missouri valley football conference. from tripoli has been named the missouri valley football conference defensive player of the year. schult is the ninth panther to receive defensive player of the year honors... schult ended the season leading all of division i football (both fcs & fbs) in sacks with 17.0 and he tied for second in the country in tackles for loss with 24.0. his 17.0 sacks in 2016 ranks second all- time in single- season quarterback sacks for uni while his 24.0 tackles for loss beat the uni record of 23.0 that
