investigating several cases of atm fraud. cedar falls police releasing a photo of a man they say placed a device called a skimmer on an area bank --stealing hundreds using people's bank account information. kwwl's jessica hartman looking into how these skimmers work and what you can do to protect your money with the biggest shopping weekend of the year only hours away. area placing these devices on a local bank atms--- and making off with dozens of people's bank account information. credit card scams -- atm skimmers -- fraud --- it is something we hear about often in the national media but now it is ever worked a case in cedar you may want to check your accounts and see if you are missing money. if you are, you might want to report that to the

farmers state bank on main street, but it can happen anywhere anytime." a skimmer -- the device that collects your account information for thieves fits over the top of the card slot of an atm. they are hard to spot-- but look closely-- "so what people want to look for is it may be off kilter or something or it may just not look right." like in this photo -- the yellow skimmer is covering up been added to the atm. another way to keep your money safe during the holiday shopping season. "opening up a second checking account or spending account. that way if anything is ever compromised with their card or they are out shopping and they loose their card, they don't have to change anything on their accounts that they have their bills or direct deposit

the bank manager also says avoid using checks during the holiday season because they have all your personal information in one place. jessica hartman new 7 kwwl. bankers say they see fraud rates increase during the holiday season. new details tonight- bank pleads guilty to charges 45-year-old brandon brown admits to stealing more than four- thousand dollars from the f and m bank in monticello after pointing a weapon at a bank employee back in july. brown faces as many as 25 years in prison. he remains in custody of the us marshals. trial is moved again for a former iowa substitute teacher involved in a sex scandal with a student. former cedar rapids washington high teacher mary beth haglin

sexual exploitation. she pleaded not guilty to those charges. however, haglin admitted to having a relationship with a 17-year-old student while teaching at the school. her trial was moved to tama county --and now back to linn county without a jury. it begins monday at nine a-m. a bus driver who hit and killed a student on the iowa state campus is fired from his job --eleven months former cy-ride driver benjamin clague had been on paid administrative leave -- making more than 28-thousand dollars after the crash. the victim was 18-year-old emmalee jacobs --a 2015 center point urbana grad. clague receiving his sentence of just 30 days in jail and a 100-dollar fine as a part of a plea deal. he could have faced multiple years in prison if convicted of the original charges filed against him. kwwl has reached out to cy-ride

fired --but we have not yet heard back. we're learning more tonight about a high-speed chase that injured a young girl inside the car. troopers tried stopping a car driven by 20-year- old jeffrey rangel, jr. --a registered sex offender -- on i- 80 in johnson county. but he kept going --eventually crashing in the town of solon. crews working today to repair the utility pole the car crashed we do know the man and the girl know each other. kwwl speaking to one man who saw the chase speed right past him. "i estimated at the time maybe 80-85 miles an hour when he went by me. i was in my lane on the tractor, but the trooper later told me that he had him

condition at the university of iowa hospitals and clinics. living with a mistake, trying to look forward. that's hard to do.. when you're seeing the same walls.. of a jail cell every day. kwwl's ally crutcher was given special access into the black hawk county jail... in fact, it's been 20 years since a news camera has been allowed behind those walls... showing us how inmates are getting a chance to turn their lives around, with new hope... the idea of love. one of the lessons being taught to these men. but that's an idea.. hard to understand.. given where they are...

nats ho ho ho, merry christmas for the 22nd year, hillcrest family services is lighting up murphy park for more than 45 thousand estimated guests. it's a sacred holiday tradition for so many. (darlene bolsinger, event coordinator) "there's so many stories we get from families, that they'll tell you exactly when they come through, and how tradition at this point. it's part of christmas in the tri-states." googley eyes?" for katie hoftender and her family, it's the start of a new tradition as they walk through the park for the first time.
