the second system is close enough that there will be very little sunshine today, if any. tonight that we could see some light snow or rain/snow mix into friday morning. as it tracks to the northeast, early morning shoppers on friday may see a light dusting of snow - at most. the low to mid 40s. the weekend starts off quite mild and as a warm front will track through. highs on saturday chance of showers. showers last into monday, when we could warm to the low 50s with windy conditions. a cold front will track through on monday, cooling us back down to normal to close out the month. after monday, dry weather continues into late next week. the holiday has a much different feel to it in one part of the country this morning. a deep sense of loss in tennessee after another child has died after a school bus crash this week. we are learning more about what happened and the man behind the wheel. reid binion has that story.

community leaders in tennessee -- coming to the aid of grief stricken families... ...amid news of a rising death toll in monday's fatal school bus crash... "i saw mothers literally passing out, people all tinhe floor. the screams. i can still hear them." the community -- absorbing troubling new details about the incident... ...and the man driving the bus when it swerved off the road 24-year-old johnthony walker is facing numerous charges, including multiple counts of vehicular homicide. he'll be in court ex was just the most recent accident he was involved in. "the driver's driving history did include a minor wreck in september of this year investigated by our agency that's also part of investigation." additionally the n- t-s-b says the bus wasn't even supposed to be on the road where it crashed. "the course of looking at the history of talley road, we just ascertained that talley road was not on the designated route for that school bus."

toxicology results do not indicate that he was under the influence. "we received toxicology reports back today from the tennessee bureau of investigations that shows no trace of alcohol or drugs in the driver's system." i'm reid binion reporting. this morning, a registered sex offender is behind bars and another person is in the hospital after a crash. the iowa state patrol tried stopping a car for speeding in johnson county tuesday morning. the driver kept going -- before crews were out yesterday working to fix the pole the car hit. jeff rangel, junior was arrested. a girl was in the car with him. we know they knew each other. authorities were very concerned when they learned he was on the sex offender registry. we caught up with one man who saw the chase go right past him. 80-85 miles an hour when he went by me. i was in my lane on the tractor, but the trooper later told me that he had him

condition. rangel faces charges and is being held in the johnson county jail. firefighters are needed at a home in cedar falls. here's a picture from the scene on briarwood drive. there's damage to the upper level of the home. no injuries -- and no word yet on the cause of the fire. frightening scene inside a wine store. an employee's pocket. you can see the sparks. "this man is going to need surgery. who knows what result will occur in terms of scarring from this terrible burn. this should not be happening." he was taken to the hospital -- and

support by officers honoring a fallen brother. wayne state university officer collin rose died yesterday -- a day after he was shot in the head near the campus in detroit. officers from as far away as kentucky came to michigan. those who knew him remember him as an outgoing young man, who was all enforcement right now it's gotta stop." "it' as show of force, a show of respect, a show of honor." has been arrested. another community comes out in full force to honor a fallen officer. hundreds marched from alamo plaza to police headquarters in san antonio. they're honoring detective ben marconi. he was shot and killed sunday as he wrote a traffic ticket. police arrested a man who said he was angry about an ugly custody battle - and quote - "lashed out

police dash cam video shows an officer bringing down a man who tried to ambush him. it happened in idaho. an officer pulls over a car without a plate. the owner is wanted for not showing up in court. the suspect's mother is driving the car. wh the officer walks behind it -- the suspect -- jumps out of the trunk -- and attacks. the officer wrestles him to the ground. the suspect and his mother were continuing coverage this morning: a newt protesters. they now driving around north dakota to get their message out. police say they're disrupting traffic. police stopped several cars. protesters say that was not justified. "i think pulling people over and having assault rifles and gas is kind of ridiculous." the pipeline would run through four states -- including iowa. almost a year after a deadly accident -- a bus driver has

former cy-ride driver benjamin clague had been on paid administrative leave -- making more than 28-thousand dollars after the crash in ames last year. emmalee jacobs -- a center point urbana grad and a student at iowa state was killed. clague was sentenced to 30 days in jail for not reporting an accident -- as a part of a plea a more serious charge against him because it was unclear if he immediately knew he had hit jacobs with the bus. why clague was just now fired --but we have not yet heard back. this morning, there are still many questions about what happened to a two- year-old girl found by herself in wright county. the girl was found in the town of galt wearing pajamas and no shoes. authorities were able to identify her and she's now with human services. the sheriff says calls from the public helped as they tried to identify the girl and her family

child's parents has been released. an iowa man could spend up to 25 years in prison for robbing a bank. brandon brown admitted stealing more than four- thousand dollars from the f and m bank in monticello in july. brown showed a weapon and pointed it at a bank employee. this morning, many eastern iowa families are worrying -- and wondering -- where their loved ones will live next year. yesterday, we learned ridgeway place in waterloo will close in february. more than 70 seniors who live there will have to find a new home. sean brown flew from new jersey this week and says he wishes the "i"m really disappointed to find that she has such a short time, that even if they are closing elderly to be moving around and making arrangements that

help residents find another place. they'll host an open house where seniors and family members can meet with representatives of other assisted living facilities. this morning, many businesses are cheering a court decision about overtime rules. many workers may not be. right now, employers can skip overtime pay for some salaried workers who make more than about 24-thousand dollars a year saying businesses can pay low-level managers as little as 25- thousand -- even if they work 50 or 60 hours a week. the obama administration wants to lift that threshold -- to more than 47-thousand dollars. a judge has blocked that. the court decision means the rule -- which was supposed to take effect in about a week -- january. new this morning -- the world's

"you put the coal to it and get about 40 miles, 50 and suddenly she starts flying." his love affair with planes started when he was a little boy. "and they'd fly over just before dark and i'd sit out on the hill north of the he constantly thought about flying. "i thought i knew how before i ever started really." smith got his pilot's license in his 20's. the original hangs on the wall at the red oak airport. "that's when i first started flying in omaha." he flew for decades. but in his 80's smith's wife urged him to stop flying. he was grounded for sometime. "my wife passed away about five years ago now and one of the boys out here said ernie.. you've got to get something to keep you

an old flame was re-ignited. "this is his first love, i always say this is dad's first love." in his early 90's, smith re-applied for his pilot's license. "orville and wilbur wright's on it see. a lot of people ask me if i knew them. no, i didn't know them." every two years smith has to see the doctor and pass a medical exam to fly. "he said we'll see you in two years, i said well i don't think so, he said why not?" one month shy of his 99th birthday. amazingly...smith still flies. "we went to the guinness book of world records, looked up the current holder, and found out ernie was older." his great grand daughter abby thinks his new record is pretty sweet. "i can actually prove that it's real he's the oldest one." for smith the record is great. but still being able to do what he loves is priceless. "most of the time, i make beautiful landings, but not always." smith tells me he knows his hobby can't last forever. but for now..he's just enjoying the ride. now you've ridden with the oldest pilot in the

the annual macy's thanksgiving day parade is in its 90th year. more than three million people will be on the streets of new york this morning to see it. more than 50 million around the world will watch from home. expect to see 16 giant baloons, including the return of charlie

you can watch the parade right here on kwwl this morning. the big event will feature eastern iowa cheerleaders. the dubuque senior varsity team is set to perform. they're among 400 cheerleaders from all over the country there for the parade. we've heard they will perform around 10:40. in cedar rapids, police protecting, but also serving meals for the holiday. officers from the police community actione here are some pictures from facebook. green square meals serves hot meals to anyone in need. today, most of you are giving thanks with family and friends... but there are others who will be spending the day with their co- workers. about 25-percent of the workforce in this country is still on the job today. an annual thanksgiving survey found those in health care are the most likely to be on the job today. this morning, two iowa birds can rest easy.

the president pardoned tater - a turkey raised in early, iowa. another turkey from western iowa -- named tot -- is also being protected. today, as we fill up on turkey and stuffing -- others plans to fill their shopping basket. many get a jump start on the holiday shopping season, taking advantage of deals even before black friday is here. walmart and target kick off their in-store black friday sales at six tonight. best buy opens at five. other stores -- like menards -- are closed today, but open tomorrow morning for black friday at six a-m. coming up -- food is such a big focus today. so how do we keep that focus without going overboard? a simple tip before the meal is one to chew on...
