leaders. the standing rock sioux say the pipeline route will destroy sacred burial and prayer sites and they fear the pipeline's proposed path under the missouri river could contaminate water. the consortium funding the 3.7 billion dollar pipeline that will run through four states safe. they also say it is a much on december fourth, hundreds of veterans are expected to travel to standing rock to join the continuing coverage -- back to linn county. a former substitute teacher involved in a sex scandal now wants a bench trial -- no jury. former cedar rapids wash teacher mary beth haglin pleaded not guilty -- but admitted having a relationship with a 17-year-old student when she was teaching at the school. she wanted her trial moved to another county because of the media coverage -- but since there's no jury now -- it will be in linn county again. it's scheduled to start monday.

some state employees are concerned with governor branstad's idea of changing the collective bargaining law. many police officers would be affected. the governor wants to see a statewide health insurance program to save money -- but some officers say they've got questions about that -- and feel they've earned "it's just one more thing for effect future candidates when they look at the state of iowa and say well, they're not allowed to negotiate this, maybe i should go somewhere that does allow package." this is something we expect to hear more about in the new legislative session. republicans now control both houses and if this is something they -- and the governor -- want to move forward with -- the path is clear for them to do that. killed in afghanistan. the soldier died when a suicide bomber attacked an airfield in afghanistan. the taliban claimed
