hope they (blows up) i hope they it's kind of heart breaking, this is one of the more enjoyable places i've worked at" (hunter wilson, center ctiy) i am told six to eight people worked in the building. the fire affecting many people in the area--some people bringing food for the fire fightes who were on people in the area--some people bringing food for the fire hours "of course it's thanksgiving so they are missing time with their family and friends to be here to make sure our community and members are safe so it's the least we can do" 12 fire departments spent their thanksgiving here today--people in the area are thankful for all the responders.

black smoke - and that smoke showed up on our storm track seven live doppler radar. you can see the cloud on the radar, is actually smoke from that fire. as crews were battling to put out this fire-neighbors nearby were being told to stay inside and take all precautions. kwwl's elizabeth amanieh speaking with those nearby. elizabeth. amanda- firefighters just finished cleaning u they could before it got dark here. and now they say people in the area here are safe to come out of their homes and resume as normal let's take a look at these firefighters who've been fighting this relentless fire. but people in the area were mostly concerned about that thick cloud of black smoke. especially families gathering together for thanksgiving. brenda hagerman who lives just right down the street said

(brad hanson, @bhansonkwwl) "well so far, the issues have been few and far this year when the roads start to look like this... nats truck door shutting, truck starting, truck leaving the winneshiek county sheriff's office will be able to respond faster and more reliably. (dan marx, winneshiek county sheriff) "we don't get to take a day off because of weather, and we dont close down because of weather. so we still have to work in the worst kind of conditions, and typically, that's when we become the busiest, in the bad weather conditions."

fleet--getting new trucks, and making sure all of their vehicles have four wheel drive capability. "it was very difficult to get around, especially on the icy roads and the secondary roads that a lot of times don't get respond to call in 2-wheel drive, mostly rear wheel drive cars, which naturally didn't work too well." this new fleet should also cut down on these vehicles having to be rescued themselves. "i needed to be rescued a few times by my deputies, where i would get stuck on my way to a four wheel drive, people in winneshiek county can rest a little easier, knowing those calls will be answered much faster. (brad hanson, @bhansonkwwl) "now another interesting note, they were able to buy all of these trucks and helping out their local economy, and soon they'll be helping people who get stuck in the snow as well. in decorah, brad hanson, news 7 kwwl." all of those vehicles are now on

they've already seen that four wheel drive capability come in handy. imagine cooking six turkeys in a few hours. cedar falls business owner todd steil has it down to a science -- after doing it for 20 years. todd says he starts frying the big birds every thanksgiving morning for friends, neighbors, and employees -- and he's all done by the afternoon. unlike most experts -- todd says "use peanut oil, that's the key. it's a little more expensive, but you won't have any flare-ups or flames. it's fun to do. it's nice and juicy. the only downfall is turkeys are awesome." of course -- todd recommends always deep-frying your turkey outside -- make sure it's thawed -- and allow at least 45 minutes per bird. and remember the two iowa turkeys to be pardoned by the president?
