routes, this is i-95, southbound, north of wilmington, you can see that the the backup caused by the bridge closure at this point. now the bridge has been closed since its pillars were found to be tilting. road is closed in both direction from his 12th street to terminal avenue. drivers are diverted to i-95. "eyewitness news" reporter jane carabao is live there tonight where many drivers are still trying to head down to delaware and maryland beaches, jan. >> reporter: natasha, dell dot has said that time and time again it is working as quickly as possible to get this bridge back opened, with safety in mind, they have been working around the clock. the problem, not only visible below but even more apparent from above, the north and southbound decks of i495, in wilmington, 18 inches apart. >> those two surfaces were at the same elevation until the movement. >> reporter: tilting has stretched this material, thin and patients even thinner when

avenue in mayfair. police are looking at surveillance video which shows someone last night driving up to that machine outside of the plumbing business and putting something inside of it. the car then drove away. >> damage was severe, the explosion was tremendous. >> force was so powerful that it sent debris a hundred feet away. police rush to the north philadelphia high school after a student apparently used pepper spray in the school's hallway. chopper three over dobbins high school on westerly high avenue around 10:00 o'clock this morning. police say that a male student ran from the area, after a dispersing that pep per sprays. six students reported burning in their eyes and they had received treatment at the scene. so far no arrests have been made. well, three high school freshman in delaware face charges after a photo surfaced on line reportedly showing one of the students with a pull it gun inside the school. this all happened wednesday at william penn high school in

new castle delaware. police say a second student was found to be in possession of the unloaded handgun, and a third student, had two magazines, one of which was loaded with bullets. well, the superintendent of the colonial school district has released this statement, it reads in part it is disheartening to know that these three students made such poor choices especially at a time when majority of the students at william penn are doing the right thing and don't deserve the black eye that this incident will bring. dozens of senior citizens could be looking for a new place to live, gloucester county nursing home placed on a federal watch list is threatening to layoff staff and also relocate patients. decides if the track report of problems here has gone on long enough. >> we've got our notifications, we have until august 1st. >> reporter: end may be near for gloucester manor nursing home this week they gave layoff notices to 130 employees. reason is that medicare and medicaid could stop paying for patients here since facility remain on the list of the lowest performing nursing homes in the country for 36 months. >> it tells you they are not doing anything to make themselves better. >> reporter: attorney saul grubber specializes in elderly care and handled several complaints against gloucester manor. >> already this morning once this story started to break we have had multiple phone calls from children who have said things such as i'm really mad because my in mother always said to me no one would ever answer the call bell when they would ring. >> reporter: long waits for call bells were some of the complaints we found in inspections on line. one patient complaining about being stuck for days in briefs too small and leaky. the quote residents here felt depressed because he or she

welcome back, on capitol hill this week, lawmakers are looking at the looming crisis of student loan debt. >> with the new graduating class facing their tabs, three on your side, consumer reporter where i am donovan looks at ways to manage college debt wisely. >> reporter: graduation sees on has put u.s. student loan debt back in the spotlight, even on capitol hill. >> treasury secretary remarked student debt is hampering our economy across multiple sectors of society, and the federal reserve identified student debt as a risk to household spending. >> reporter: according to the pew research study 37 percent of young u.s. households carry student debt and in a uncertain job market pressure to pay back can be overwhelming. brittany jones told her story to a senate committee. >> the numbers did not add up. i work three jobs as once just to make my monthly payment. >> reporter: the in the tough financial situations skipping

payments may seem like the only option but that short term decision can have long term consequences. >> one of the mistakes made, the default rate on student loans is as high as 30 percent. don't ever think that loan isn't going to impact your credit score. >> reporter: poor credit score can dash hopes of buying a home, a car, and even a chance at certain jobs. often lenners can work out a plan that allows for smaller monthly payments. >> the problem here is you are paying more money in interest over the life of the loan. you are trading short term relief for long term pain. if you cannot afford inly payments this might be your only option. >> reporter: so graduates have loans with grace periods, they should use it to research every option, from repayment plans to federal loan forgiveness for certain professions like teaching and public service. to be fair when most arise. >> very well. >> yes. >> knowledge is power, the

more you know. >> exactly. >> thanks, jim. student loans, that just depressed me as much as traffic right new because if you are traveling on the schuylkill, 676, i-95, we are seeing rush hour and that shore volume, impact the commute right now. as we go to the schuylkill expressway it is a depressing scene. the it don't matter when are traveling east or westbound. this shot we are experiencing a slow down. forty-two freeway southbound not awful but it is heavy coming up and over the walt whitman bridge. to be mindful of that speed sensors are indicating the teens all over on i-95, schuylkill expressway. 476 and pennsylvania turnpike. watch out for delays around mid county tolls. in west philadelphia we have an accident at forty-second and girard avenue. this is affecting the the ten, 15 trolleys so experience delays there. in major problems however at the airport, chris and jessica. >> vittoria, thanks very much. still ahead a hollywood power couple calls it quits

from a fishing net is causing a huge fish kill. chopper three over cape may point in front of the sunset grill. that is where eyewitnesses say bunker fish have washed up on the beach. right now crews are working to clean up the shore, officials say that the majority of the dead fish, will be, washed out with the tides. look at the the picture perfect day, to be on the beach, or anywhere outside. >> absolutely cape may point is a quaint little town here, all of our shore towns enjoying a gorgeous day and great weekend as well whether in the city, down the shore or poconos. we will look at all three coming up in the forecast, we will like the weekend for all of those spots. speaking of the shore lets go outside and take a look down the shore right now. i would love to be there right now. look at those folks walking in the surf taking a nice evening stroll, on the beach there, it looks absolute thely fantastic. waves are rolling in ocean city, cape may county looking perfect on this friday evening. little bit cool for today, at least sitting on the beach or

i'm chris may, here is a look at some of the day's top stories, part-time keeping aid is on leave after allegedly giving dog treats to student, at new hanover upper fredrick elementary school in montgomery county. about 75, fourth graders, ate those treats. well, authorities are searching for suspects in an explosion of a soda machine in northeast philadelphia. police believe that someone placed something in that machine on mcgee avenue. debris flew up to hundred feet away. and the ride to delaware, and maryland beaches could be a real nightmare this weekend, of course, a portion of the i495 bridge in wilmington remains closed as dell dot works around the clock to

fire officials surrounded this home after an early morning fire. despite fire fighters best efforts to rescue a man inside, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. family members who talked with us off camera identified the man as 81 year-old eddie liberto, his niece says they have overcome by shock and grief. she described him as healthy and active. liberto grew up on this farmland, old homestead as his niece referred to it, land has been since sold off but their family still lives in the area we're told he was one of seven siblings from a familiar willly of farmers. he was also a hunter. he loved his family dearly. fire officials said they were called at 1:45 this morning. >> they did affect wait a rescue and did find one person in the home. >> reporter: liberto was in the right front room, fire fighters pulled him out of the house. a fire fighter who helped with the initial rescue was taken to virtua berlin hospital as a precaution but is expect to be okay. liberto's niece says their family has had a tough time.

she said eddie's wife died last year. just on tuesday family buried eddie's brother rodolph liberto who was 85 years old. he wases struck by a car crossing route 73 and week and a half ago. incident is under investigation and so far there have been no arrest. liberto is survived by his daughter and other family members. as of now the camden county fire marshall is investigating the fire. that is very latest from winslow township, jen bernstein for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". we now know identity of the men who opened fire on the campus of sat pal civic university killing one person and injuring two others last night. twenty-six year-old erin ubara is accused of opening fire at otto miller hall. a 19 year-old man was killed, two other young people were injured. a 22-year old man working as a building monitor pepper sprayed and tackled ubara likely saving many lives. some new jersey lawmakers want to raise minimum smoking age to 21. right now it is 19.

paratrooper killed by an artillery shell as they both took cover during a german barrage. >> his body was right next to me body to body. his head was right about here. shell landed right beside him and tore him apart on the right leg. i always figured that was for me. >> reporter: as families request richard vargas was buried not in normandy but in another american war cemetery in eastern france next to his brother, also a veteran. it took leslie cruz this long to find a day. >> this day is a day of remembrance, of something that happened 70 years ago on june 7th. perhaps now i can set it aside and go on, without it but i doubt it. >> reporter: whiskey seven it turns out is a tough old bird too.

about maybe heading back home or heading down the shore, still up with the tand. take a lot at roosevelt boulevard. if you are commuting in the the northbound direction you are delayed from the schuylkill out through that broad street exit. would i not be surprised if that sol followed you out towards ninth street. give yourself more time, southbound side looks fine. traveling on the ben franklin bridge we do have delays if you are commuting, both eastbound and westbound construction project holding you back and folks heading in to new jersey to hit south jersey shore point. you will fine that as well. traveling on i-95 your average speed is 5 miles per hour, construction zones not helping. traveling on the schuylkill eastbound your heaviest between 202 down towards gladwynn and again 495 still closed will be for a long time between 12th and terminal avenue. i-95 is your best bet, expect heavy volume with anyone trying to head to the delaware shore beaches as well. in major problems for mass transit. now back to the desk. still to come on "eyewitness news" hollywood power couple together for 18
