from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> right now at 11:00 o'clock, a murder case goes unsolved for more than 40 years. but tonight, dna testing has solved a big piece of the puzzle. good evening, i'm chris may. >> i'm natasha brown. jess is off. authorities released the authorities of two young women found dead in the '60s their

bodies were exhumed from a potters field in berks county. todd quinones talked with a relative about the dramatic turn of events. >> reporter: 14 year old sandra steve and her 17 year old sister-in-law martha were last alive by their familiar unless 1968. last spotted here in kensington the frankford and kensington avenues the girls simply vanished. >> that's my sister sandy. >> her brother walter and his familiar wl told d inform a tests proved sandy and martha were identified as two previous jane does had were buried in a potters field in berks county in the late '60s. >> for awhile we thought maybe she was life. >> the girls bodies were he can humidity last fall as cold case unit with the pennsylvania state police started looking into the jane does on behalf of sandy's family. b county coroner said sandy was murdered in 1968. >> it was found along route 82.

she had several bullet wounds in the abdomen chest and one in temple. >> reporter: body of unidentified marsha stiver was found about a year later in nearby french creek state park. the discover has brought relieve to sandy's family. her dad died in his 70s from cancer. but never gave up looking for her. sandy's mom is alive in ohio but in fragile health. >> especially 46 years not knowing. it's a shame. she gets close shower now. >> reporter: it's believe the girls may have been trying to hitchhike their way back to kansas when they vanished. the killer has never been found. in the meantime, sandy's family plans on bringing her remains to ohio so that she can have proper burial. reporting live tonight in the sat center, todd quinones cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thank you very much, todd. also new tonight, surveillance video of an exploding soda machine in mayfair. authorities are now searching for the suspects.

someone driving up to the machine last night on magee avenue put something inside of it before the blast. the force of the explosion was so powerful it sent debris up to 100 feet away. no one was injured. >> we turn to weather now. the weekend is upon us, and there will be sunshine as far as the eye can see. what great news. meteorologist kathy orr is out on the cbs-3 sky deck tracking what is shaping up to be a beautiful weekend. kathy. we have a northerly wind, chris, and that is a dry air mass. so we're talking about very low humidity, comfortable sleeping weather, and deep blue skies come tomorrow. really a pick which are perfect weekend. take look at storm scan3. nothing to report. that is our 150-mile radius. not even a cloud in the sky. it is very comfortable out there. with a light winds temperatures will cool back down overnight tonight. in philadelphia it's 72. 63 in allentown. 57 already in millville. and it's 64 in trenton. come tomorrow in philadelphia the sun will be out in full force. 85. 78 down the shore with a land

breeze to start. but sea breeze will kick in during the late afternoon. during the afternoon in the poconos looks great. with lots of sunshine with pocono 400 this weekend the temperature 77 degrees. coming up, sunshine for now, but not for long. there are some storms coming our way in the seven day. we'll talk more about that later in the broadcast. >> all right. kathy. we'll see you then. well beach goers are certainly going to have to pack their patience this weekend as a result of theism 495 bridge closure in delaware. for the first time since it closed on monday, drivers heading to the shore got a taste of the traffic jams today. chopper three over i-95 in wilmington this afternoon. police are di verying traffic around the bridge and aaa says that drivers really need to plan ahead. >> i think if you're looking at route 13 to run south or north to get to the delaware beaches or maybe to the jersey shore that's fine. if you go east through new jersey and cross the delaware memorial bridge, if you're west

you can take possibly 202 to route 41 down to a route 13. >> deldot is vest it gating what caused several i495 bridge supports to tilt and how to fix that problem. the platt bridge is also closed for this weekend as the final construction phase of that project begins. crews are going to be putting a special sealant on the concrete. the bridge will reopen monday at 5:00 a.m. this is a $43 million project that started back in 2012. it is designed to keep the platt in good shape for the next three decades. >> new tonight, taking back the streets. concerned community comes together and rallies to end an epidemic of gun violence. as "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers tells us tonight's show of support was spurred by a man who was killed earlier this we're on the streets of camden. >> all three young men all three shot to death in the last year. >> friday afternoon family and

friends marched through camden streets saying enough is enough. >> they chased them down for a couple blocks and they shot him in his back. >> for kerry the march was personal. her son pete was killed right here on lincoln avenue. a member of the community actually spoke up and helped police both locate and arrest his killer. but speaking out against violence like that in camden is certainly the exception to the rule. a rule that applies to the case of mark anthony gonzales killed last june. his killer still on the loose. >> how you feeling right now? >> in pain. it's not right. >> reporter: there were several witnesses to the crime but no one is willing to talk to police. >> they need to come out and talk. if they seen who shot my baby, come out and talk. >> they're actually protecting the killers because they're letting them run the streets don it again. today it's me. tomorrow it could be you. tomorrow it could be anyone. >> reporter: friday's march against violence isn't the first and it won't be the last. are they even helping?

organizers say yes if only to present the other side of a violent city. >> this community is ready, these people are sick and tired. >> people here say change comes slowly but that the out come is worth the wait and the struggle. matt rivers cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> in other news tonight bucks county dr. charged with owning and distributing child pornography and undercover investigation on the inn net led to the arrest of arthritic year old quinton parker of bristol township. police say that they recovered videos and images on parker's computer of young girls engaged in sex. he is being held tonight on 150 to us season dollars bail. >> a burglar breaks no a bucks county store and steals a cash register and it's all caught on surveillance camera. this crime happened may 20th at lou's farm market in bensal bensalem. you zoo he that suspect, yank out the register, and then casually walk from the store. anyone with information on who

that man is is asked to cull police. >> well the philadelphia 76ers meantime they may be moving their practice facility across the river to new jersey. team ceo sew scott o'neal confirmed in a statement today that the organization has filed an application for a site on the camden waterfront. o'neal says the team will have more to say about this once the new jersey economic development authority finally votes on incentives for the possible training facility. >> and it is official. the city of philadelphia is campaigning to host the 2016 democratic national convention. mayor michael nutter made that announcement earlier today. >> we have submitted a very competitive field bid in accordance with the dmc process. philadelphia, of course, is great city in which the host huge event. >> philadelphia does have some competition. other cities in the running for the dnc include new york, specifically brooklyn, brief

>> back now on "eyewitness news", some amazing video here. two people in canada survived a terrifying ride when lightning strikes their truck. you can see the truck driving along there on a road outside of edmonton when the lightning bolt it hits the truck.

the impact melted part of the truck's body. deployed the air bags and also trapped that couple inside. a police officer just happened to be driving by and rescued them. the couple luckily was in the seriously injured despite that shocking video there. >> also we now know the dent tough the man had opened fire on the campus of seattle pacific university killing one person, injuring two others. police say 26 yeared aaron, opened fire at otto miller hall. a 19 year old man was killed. two other young people were injured. a 22 year old man who was working as a building monitor pepper sprayed and tackled the suspect likely saving many other lives. >> new jersey father wants some answers tonight after he says his daughter came home from school and told him a teacher put duck tape over her mouth. an gentlemen leak henderson is third grader in elizabeth, new jersey. she says that a substitute teacher covered her mouth and the mouths of some of her friends because they were tal

talking. an gentlemen leak pogging father says he would hardly believe what his daughter said. >> a teacher that was sworn to protect and teach kids to do something in that manner to a young kid, to anybody, you know, it's -- i'm lost for words. >> school officials aren't saying much but they do say they notified state authorities about this incident and filed a report with police. "eyewitness news" exclusive now. some parents are demanding answers after kids are served dog streets at a montgomery cun tee elementary school at new hanover upper frederick elementary in gilbertsville, montgomery county. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson tells our story. >> reporter: kids and their parents say it is all in poor taste. >> i saw it wow, did i really eat dogs treats something my dog eats. >> on thursday the taste is something not meant for human conception much the next day the flavor of mistrust, be trail.

friday morning school officials telling parents their children were served dog treats. >> i was, um, upset that someone we were supposed to trust in school and take care of would you say do that to us. >> the pre teen whose family wanted to keep his identity hidden is one of dozens of kids school officials say were served with they thought was a normal cookie on thursday during recess. at new hanover upper frederick elementary by a school lunch a aid. e-mail sent home to parents says the treats came from pet store. in a statement handed to cbs-3, the superintendent confirms that approximately 75, fourth graders in this school were handed those treats during a recess. it also says that the part-time aid who handed out those treats has been placed on administrative leave and was acting alone. >> i don't know what possessed her to do something like that. hanover mom lynn says she was a lunch aid at the school for four years.

60 in millville. 61 in wildwood. down the shore temperatures mainly in the lower to mid 60s. that ocean water item which are 60. having a big influence on the shore temperatures this evening. we'll start off tomorrow with a land breeze down the shore. then you'll have your sea breeze during the afternoon. high pressure sits root over us. to the north and we'll have a northerly wind flow that means dry air. canadian air mass that will be settling over us deep blue skies and temperatures in the 80s. the same goes for sunday. little bit warmer. up into the upper 80s and then all eyes on this area of low pressure that moves our way for monday. setting up a chance of some showers. we stay warm. temperatures continue to be summer like into the 80s. our forecast overnight calls for mainly clear skies. look just that over the city comfortably cool with low testimony cher of 59 and northwesterly wind. during the day tomorrow, you have a sunny beautiful day with high temperatures in the mid 8 80s. the northerly dry air mass continues with low humidity.
