>> ♪ >> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> right now on "eyewitness news," new information in the crash that critically injured actor tracy morgan and for the first time we are now seeing the truck driver accused of causing the deadly pileup on the new jersey turnpike. good evening everyone, i'm natasha brown. thank you so much for joining

us. 1 person was killed in this crash, morgan and 2 others were critically injured and late this afternoon the actor's publicist released a statement detailing some of tracy morgan's injuries. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers is live outside of robert wood johnson hospital in new brunswick with new information for us. matt. >> reporter: natasha, the information that we're hearing is good news for tracy morgan and his family. a representative for the actor and comedian says that the actor is doing better today than he was yesterday. he's more responsive according to his doctors. we do know however that he remains in critical condition. we know that he suffered a broken leg on which he had surgery earlier this afternoon. he also suffered a broken femur, a broken nose and several broken ribs after saturday morning's accident on the new jersey turnpike. this is exclusive video of the limo bus tracy morgan and 6 others were riding in saturday morning when it overturned on the new jersey turnpike. 1 man was killed while morgan and 2 others remain in

critical condition. for the first time we're seeing the man who police say caused the crash. this is 35-year-old kevin roper, a wal-mart truck driver from georgia. he turned himself in to police after being charged with 1 count of death by auto and 4 counts of assault by auto. we're told he failed to notice traffic slowing down in front of him around 1:00 a.m. on the turnpike near cranbury township he slammed into the back of morgan's limo bus causing it to flip. 63 year old comedian james mcnair was killed. tracy morgan, morgan's assistant and ardie fuqua junior remain in critical condition. a fifth man was treated and released. 2 others were not injured. a company that owns the limo bus express their condolences and agreed that their driver was not at fault in this 6 vehicle crash. a representative for tracy morgan also telling us that he's expected to be in the hospital for at least the next few weeks. his family also expressing their thanks for the love and support they've received over the last 2 days.

tracking a bit of an unsettled forecast for the next several days. storm scan3 shows clouds increased this afternoon, still some breaks in the clouds. you may see a few peeks of sun in the evening. showers might presidential candidate up later on this evening into the overnight. scatterd in nature and there could be a rumble of thunder with a brief heavier downpour. that forecast stays unsettled as we head through monday. tonight scattered showers moving from west to east this evening. there could be a possible thunderstorm in there. best chance for some steadier heavier rain will occur during the overnight hours as the actual storm system closes in on the delaware valley. so, through the day tomorrow still clouds with some off and on showers. 82 the current temperature right now at the airport in philadelphia. surrounding suburbs starting to drop down into the 70's with clouds. coming up in the full forecast we'll talk about humidity that's on the rise. certainly going to feel like summer but an unsettled week in the 7 day forecast. we'll show that you coming up in a few more minutes. natasha back to you.

>> thanksup justin. philadelphia police are investigating a deadly case of road rage on the boulevard. this happened just after 11 o'clock last night near the intersection of north fifth street in feltonville. the argument was between the occupants of a car an rider of a motorcycle. a man was killed and a woman was shot twice is that listed in stable condition. police are questioning 1 person. so far, no charges have been filed. also a driver crashes into a house in camden. it's later discovered that he has been shot several times. this was the scene on the 700 block of sycamore street in camden overnight. you see the car riddled with bullet holes. police say the driver is currently in critical condition. 3 residents were displaced because of the damage to the home. and crews are also now working to repair a large water main break that damaged 2 properties and turned a north philadelphia street into quite a mess. the water that gushed from a ruptured main left a gaping hole at 27th and master streets in brewerytown.

workers capped the 36-inch main. the intersection remains closed. neighbors described this scene as a raging river going right down the street. >> it was -- it was crazy. last night it was a lot of water. it was like running rapids down here. took the water department a little while to get down here but eventually they did, quarantined off all the areas around the blocks and it started going down. >> well, no 1 lost water service as a result of the break. officials are now sure how long it will take to fix the broken pipe or when the road might be fully repaired. and crews in delaware, they're almost finished removing a large mound of dirt suspected of causing the interstate 495 bridge to tilt. officials have said removing the dirt is the first step in getting the bridge repaired which was closed to traffic last week. the work on the bridge is expected to take weeks, possibly even months. and another head's up for you to drivers. crews will be setting up concrete barriers in the

"eyewitness news." >> well, u.s. army sergeant bowe bergdahl has told the people treating him at a u.s. military hospital that was indeed tortured while in taliban captivity. bergdahl said he was beaten and held in a cage after he tried to escape. the new york times is reporting that doctors say bergdahl is physically able to travel but not emotionally ready to be reunited with his family. bergdahl was returned to the u.s. military in exchange for the release of 5 taliban militants at guantanamo bay. a move that has sparked a political firestorm. >> what we're doing here is reconstituting the taliban government, the same guys that are mass murderers, 1 killed thousands of shiite muslims. >> we know we have the ability to be able to deal with people who want to threaten americans or threaten the united states and if that's what they go back on their word to do, we have any number of avenues available to us to be able to deal with that. >> the fbi says authorities

are now investigating threats made against bergdahl's family who live in idaho. pope francis makes good on his word and welcomes the presidents of israel and palestine to the vatican to pray for peace. cbs news correspondent anna metranga has more on this meeting. >> reporter: the presidents embraced and planted an olive tree as a sign of peace. pope francis invited them to the vatican after peace talks broke down last month. independence mall to finance happening that's where the group the village people entertained the crowds. in harrisburg governor tom corbett and first lady susan corbett hosted a an open house at the governor's residence. it was the fourth annual arts event. visitors included horticulture music and arts activities. it kicks off the second sunday event being held throughout the summer. >> beautiful day for any festivities outside. >> yes, another great weekend. that's been the trend around here lately. >> i guess change is on the way. >> it's going to be more humid and off and on showers, maybe even a few thunderstorms. let's break it down for you. the shore looks pretty good. next several hours should be okay. should stay dry so not a bad evening to hang out in ocean city at the boardwalk. still some sunshine out there but clouds will continue to move in from the west. it was another warm day inland, though, today. check it out. did make it up to 84 degrees for the high temperature. 81 is the average so above that. record high 97, set back in

2011 and again we did not hit 90 degrees yet this year. here's storm scan3. clouds rolling into the area, there's some light shower activity breaking out across areas of northern lancaster county, into berks county, northern chester county. this is light stuff. more thunderstorm activity well to the west. that will take some time to get here. if it holds we could deal with heavier rain through the overnight hours. the next few hours, maybe some light showers depending where you are, mainly north and west of the city,. unsettled weather continues throughout the day monday. still warm, though. low 80's allentown, philadelphia, mid 70's near the shore, 76 in millville, 79 in reading. now we talked about the dewpoint temperature 'cause this tells us how humid it is outside. this is pretty low for summer time. low mid-50's, 65 is kind of that magic number. once you get to that that's when it starts feeling very humid and uncomfortable. watch what happens over the next 24 hours. monday afternoon, now we're seeing those dewpoint temperatures in the mid 60's so the humidity levels really rise over the next 24 hours

and that stays humid through tuesday. we're app ploaf proaching the 70-degree mark. that's when it starts to feel a bit oppressive and that humidity helps fuel showers maybe thunderstorms as low pressure tracks eastward overnight into your monday so off and on showers through the day on monday. the threat will continue into tuesday as this front kind of stalls over the region. could see a few breaks of sunshine, temperatures in the low 80's. the humidity continues to midweek. we may catch a break in the action on wednesday as we're in between 2 storm systems but another 1 moves in from the west. we'll see another round of some showers and storms for the end of the week, so kind of unsettled throughout the entire next 5 days or so. so, here we go, overnight off and on showers, maybe a thunderstorm, brief heavy downpour. this could impact the morning commute monday morning. still some showers around. and the threat continues throughout the afternoon. really depends where you are. not going to call it an all day washout but keep in mind any time through the day monday there's that threat for a shower and a thunderstorm. same deal for tuesday, especially during the afternoon hours. humidity around we could see

more showers and thunderstorms popping up. overnight mostly cloudy skies, couple of showers, maybe a storm, 65 for the low temperature so we're warming it up a little bit. more clouds and more humid for monday with some showers and storms any time through the day with a high temperature near 80 degrees, so a little bit cooler than today 'cause of the clouds and showers. at the shore not the best day. it's going to be breezy, clouds, mid 70's for the air temperature. water temperature actually is on the rise hitting the low 70's today. watch out for those showers and storms especially in the afternoon. here's the extended forecast. we'll keep it in the low to mid 80's pretty much throughout the entire week. best shot for wet weather monday tuesday, again thursday and friday and right now next weekend we start to dry out, temperatures back in the mid 80's with sunshine. typical summer weather, showers and storms, humid. >> thank you justin. lesley is here with sports. >>hillies finish their series with the reds in cincinnati the chance to take the series and a series win would help right about now. third innothing score runners
